Nice beer selection but would prefer to have a majority of them be local. The cheese curds were incredible- the waitress described them as little grilled cheese sandwiches and that is a perfect statement. Burgers were grilled and delicious. Wife had the mac and cheese and said it was tasty. Oh- the onion rings may be some of the best I have ever had and I have had more onion rings than I care to remember. read more

Sat down tonight, waited for 15 minutes for someone to come over and wait on us, and eventually decided to walk out. The owner/manager probably walked by at least 4 times, without even pausing to wonder "has anyone helped them", which to me is a very obvious sign that they do not know what they are doing at this restaurant. Menu is way too small and seems overpriced. Very disappointing as we were very excited to try this new place. We will not be back. read more

This place has lost its mojo. I've been going to the Iron Tap with my family since it opened and it's gone steadily downhill. The past couple times we've been the service has been slow and the food cold and tired. The ribs used to be terrific--crispy and lacquered on the outside, moist and tender inside. The past two times I've had them they've been dry and chewy. Ditto with the onion rings. They used to be light and crisp, now they're dense and doughy. The selection of beers is always extensive and interesting and the service is friendly enough, but this place really needs to whip its kitchen into shape. read more

I took my mom to Iron Tap today at 3 pm. We didn't get a menu and when we asked for one they said they were only offering two options, a sandwich basket with a bag of chips or a salad. This was very disappointing but we were hungry so we got the salad. It was a pretty sad salad, minimal toppings and basically it was ice berg lettuce with some dressing. Service was poor, the waitress seemed put off when my mom wanted no tomatoes. We won't be back and this doesn't deserve any awards for best new restaurant in the Southwest metro. By the way, the sign on the window said "Now serving lunch." That obviously wasn't very true. read more

We had the Tuesday night tacos which were delicious, have the guacamole you won't be disappointed. Waitress was super friendly and checked on us often. Way over priced for what you get. $32 for a sandwich and cheese curds? Stingy on the drinks and wine as well as I watched them make it. Also, I don't think it's professional for customers to over hear managers talking down to their staff. Especially, when said staff is basically on their own. We love this restaurant! The food is phenomenal and they have a great beer selection. Its fun to try their daily specials but also hard not to get our regular favorites because they are so good. These include the pretzel for an app, Iron Tap burger and backyard bbq pizza. The best special is the bacon wrapped bbq meatloaf. We are excited every time they make it! We were in Waconia looking for a good place to eat. We spotted the Iron Tap. Walking in it looks like a typical small town bar & grill. Once I walked out back the place expanded. They have a great little outside deck. I spotted a set of stairs and went up. They have a nice rooftop area so we chose to eat there. I had a Castle Danger Ode. When I ordered I had the Big Tom with onion rings. The Sandwich was delicious. BBQ brisket with bacon which was very tender. Their onion rings were some of the best I have had. They were the size of donuts and were crispy and full of onion flavor. I would definitely go back. read more

I met some friends on a Saturday evening to celebrate a birthday. We came on probably not the best night- turns out the Waconia Marching Band Showcase was going on when we arrived so Main Street was packed with people and it was hard to access the businesses. Still, we didn't wait long for a table (and we had free entertainment). It was raining but we sat on the patio under a large umbrella. The rain tapered off and eventually we asked to move to an open table in the covered patio so it all worked out. My friend raved about the gouda cheese sauce so I ordered the loaded fries. I was pretty underwhelmed and the sauce became goopy and gross the longer it sat on the plate. It wasn't super appetizing after a while. My friends seemed to be pleased with their food choices. I ordered a beer from the local Waconia Brewing Co. and it didn't taste like I thought it should have (I ordered the kolsch and it tasted like grapefruit)... not sure if that's an issue with the restaurant or the brewery. The service was fantastic and the outdoor space is awesome- I would give it 3 or 4 stars if only judging on that. read more

This place is a blast. We stopped by on a summer night after we finished hiking in a nearby park preserve. There was a great band playing live music and the place was packed with people. I absolutely love the vibe at the Iron Tap. It's a fabulous mix of industrial, country, and modern. It's super comfortable here and a lot of fun. I had a local wine from Parley Lake Winery and my fiancé had a local craft beer. We loved our drinks and the connection to the community. We will absolutely be back here, what a great addition to Waconia. read more

Our first time here. We were greeted at the door by a very friendly person with a smile. We were seated in a cozy area in the back room. Our waitress greeted us very quickly and took our drink orders. The craft beer selection is very good; top notch for Waconia. I had the bacon wrapped shrimp, and we split the beef brisket with coleslaw and roasted potatoes. The food was very good and arrived very quickly. The waitress kept touching the table often, which is great. They were knowledgeable about gluten free food. We both agree that this is the best restaurant that Waconia has to offer right now. Our most favorite part of the restaurant was the friendly and happy staff which makes or breaks the experience. The second was the craft beer list. Everything else was icing on the cake. read more

The food was great. I had two stuffed pork chops with apple chutney, fresh root veggies and mashed potatoes. My wife had a pasta dish with white sauce that was excellent. Good beer selection and good wait staff. I also had the maple old fashion that may have been the best drink I've ever had. Good prices for the quality and quantity of food. Why would you come to another beer and burger joint? 3 Unique seating areas - Typical Bar Scene in the main room with a collection of beer taps hanging from the wall - nice, meander past the bar to the wood paneled, sun drenched back room - great area for a smoked meats and craft beers. On a nice day climb (and I mean climb) the steps and set yourself on a really cool outdoor patio above the soon to be ice cream parlor. Hand battered onion rings with aioli sauce were worthy of a return visit, and the smoked meats - brisket and ribs - smoked on site were a unique feature steading it apart form other area joints. Great list of craft beers on tap and in bottles. Wait staff was down home and enjoyable. Certainly worthy of a visit. I recommend! read more

Great place in the western suburbs. Good beer, wonderful food, and a cool ambience. By far one of the best places in the area.

We were there on a busy night. We asked for first available seating, inside or out. Over a half an hour later the owner told the hostess that a table had opened on the patio. The hostess said OK, I'll let them know, and went over to a couple seated at the bar, this couple arrived after we did, and offered them the table. They sat at the bar and finished their drinks before having the hostess seat them at the table. The next table that opened, inside, about 5 minutes later, was offered to us. When we mentioned this to the owner she said that the couple behind us specifically requested outdoor seating so they were given the table. She did not understand that "first available" means where ever a table opens first. I don't believe these owners have much experience in running a restaurant and have a lot to learn. The menu is limited, smoked meats are already cooked, woodfire pizzas don't take long and burgers are quick to make. That being said, it took almost another half hour to get our food. The food was dry, barely warm, and the chicken tasted either of nothing, my veggie burger tasted like salt. They have a great patio and rooftop deck so it's a great spot. They just really need to improve their food, service, restaurant skills, and pricing. read more

Hi Greg and Bria - I want to commend you guys on the food, the service and the ambiance of your restaurant. We were seated immediately, the waitress came to our table right after we were seated, took our drink order and was back in a very short time to take our food order. She told us what the soup, vegetable and fruit specials of the day were and pointed out the special beers also. I don't remember her name (40's (?) with short reddish hair). An excellent waitress! (If she is younger, I apologize - I am not good at guessing ages)! The food was delicious - I had the chicken lettuce wraps and my husband had a pizza. We both would order those same 2 items again. A group of friends and I ate at the Iron Tap on a Saturday evening at 5:30 pm. We purposely waited to eat at this newer restaurant for several months so they had a chance to work the bugs out. We ordered drinks and appetizers. The drinks took 10-15 minutes to get and the apps took nearly an hour to make it to our table. The onion rings were VERY doughy. The food we ordered took another hour to receive. I had the brisket with bbq beans and red potatoes. The brisket had chunks of fat in it. The beans were cold and the red potatoes were tasteless. I had very high hopes for a new Waconia restaurant. I will not be going there again read more

I was in town on business and decided to try out Iron Tap on my last night. I got the burger with peanut butter, siracha, etc. and thanks to the bar patrons, I added the egg! It was freaking amazing, and I don't normally get hamburgers to eat!!! The sweet potato fries were also amazing! The bartender was fantastic and wonderfully helpful! There is a lot I like about Iron Tap, but some deal-breaking problems need to be fixed first. The food is good, but the menu is limited. If you like beer, you will find something here to love. The biggest problems are comfort-related. The chairs are extremely uncomfortable. More on the level of a get-em-in-get-em-out place than a linger-over-another-great-beer feeling. The noise level is excruciating and makes conversation impossible. The first time I tried Iron Tap it was great! The service, food, and beer were all great. I was so excited to go for Mother's Day with my family. That was a BIG MISTAKE! From the moment we walked in it was bad. We waited at the front for about 5 minutes before we were greeted. And they were not busy! We even called to make sure! When we asked to sit outside in the new patio they froze up because we have 6 in our family and they only have 4 tops outside. Once we were seated inside it continued to go down hill fast!! Drinks took FOREVER and were FORGOTTEN! Food took even LONGER and meals were all brought out at different times! One kids meal came out fast, burnt, and dry and then 5 min later the other kids meal came out barely cooked! Another 5 minutes later my burger finally arrived! We had to get up and ask for utensils and condiments. No body seemed to have any clue what was going on and they were not busy!! The check was dropped off but we had to track down our server to run our card. Then she didn't have a pen for us to use. Seriously nothing went well! I was given a $15 gift card but that doesn't really make up for the beyond horrible Mother's Day lunch for this mom of 4 young kids! read more
