First time and we had soup. I had the wonton chicken for $8.75 and the hub had special order shrimp noodle for $10. The chicken wonton came with a bunch of yummy chicken on top of so many wontons! It included snow peas, carrots and greens. The broth was some of the best I have had and the wontons were good, but not as flavorful as I expected them to be. Still very yummy soup! My hub loved his shrimp noodle and the shrimp were big but I thought there should be more for $10. The place is small for a Chinese restaurant but we went at an off time with only one other couple there. Lots of take out action though. We left very happy and can't wait to go back! I finally found a Chinese Restaurant in Placerville; from the Yelp Reviews I read, the family used to own their restaurant somewhere around Big Horn in Elk Grove CA but, they moved to Placerville CA! As I watched the Chef make my take-out dinner, I summarize his cuisine style is Mandarin, not Cantonese or Szechuan Provincial Cuisine: The sauces he uses for each dish I noted is quite reminiscent, similar to the Macau Cuisine I've eaten in the country of Macau's Mom and Pop home-cooked, comfort style foods. Upon eating the Take-Out, i.e., Wor Won Ton soup, prawns with mixed vegetables, and prawn fried rice~ Suggestion to the Iron Wok Chef: The Wor Won Ton Soup must have at least THREE to FIVE different types of seafood which makes the soup WOR: Shrimp, prawns, octopus, fish, clams, mussels, oysters, crab, or squid plus, three different types of meat-chicken, beef, and pork . . . The Macau Chinese restaurant-the hole-in-the-wall restaurant across from the Macau's Waterfall Plaza gives lamb as a meat option and finally, bok choy, carrots, Shiitake mushrooms, oyster mushrooms; however, I opted not eating pork due to pork makes my stomach upset. Also, the won ton noodles with pork were disintegrating and mushy: Please improve the quality of the noodles by "flashing" the won ton noodles filled with pork via steaming first until the pork is cooked well then, put the won ton noodles with pork into the soup cooking for an additional five minutes. I was really looking forward to eating at this restaurant after all of the good reviews, but that was not the case. First of all, the menu pricing is lower than what they charge when you order. Their hours are not 11am-8pm, they are 3pm-8pm. After ordering food here it's clear why they are takeout only, I ordered the Orange Chicken and the Chow Fun which was $32. When I got home and opened the containers the Chow Fun was a very dark color, which was weird, because I've never seen it that color before. It also fell apart when I tried to eat it with a fork. It also did not have the flavor of being cooked on a wok. it tasted bland like it was soaked in soy sauce (which is probably why it looked so dark). The chicken looked ok, but when I tried to eat it, it was so tough I had to spit it out. I tried a couple pieces and they were all the same, impossible to chew, and I had to spit them all out. Orange chicken has a great taste, but what I tasted when I put a piece in my mouth was almost tasteless. There was almost no orange sauce in the bottom of the container. It was clear that the noodles and the chicken had to be very very old, and they were not cooked in a wok. The bottom line was that $32 and the food (if you can call it that) all went immediately into the trash. I really love Chinese food, and have been hoping for a good one to open up in Placerville. Its disappointing, maybe someday we will get a good Chinese and Thai restaurant. read more

I want to come back and say, this restaurant has greatly improved over the years. The quality is much better now and we really enjoy many of their menu items. If I could give this place 0 stars for customer service I would in a heartbeat. I have been loyal to this Chinese restaurant for years cause their food is so good but the lady that wrung me up today was TERRIBLE. She accidentally gave my food to a different customer, then proceeded to blame it all on the customer!!! What?! So then she offered no discount or anything at all for the inconvenience and extra waiting time. Unless management plans on doing what they should have offered to begin with like a discount or literally anything for her personal mistake, I am no longer coming here and I will tell everyone I know to not come here either! Also she noticed that I was walking with the food (my car needs it's water pump replaced) and never offered any box to carry it in or anything. We talked to the owner and she was very sweet- told us that they had been in Elk Grove for many years and decided to move, and we are so glad they did! Food was super hot and fresh- not at all greasy and it had great flavor. We ordered two main dishes and two sides (chicken chow mein, veggie chow mein, crab and cream cheese wontons, and potstickers - I know, carbohydrate overload, but I'm pregnant so I get a pass to eat like this once in a while). As a local of Placerville for over a decade, I've tried just about every restaurant in the area to have come and gone and the ones that last get old. That is, except, for Iron Wok which never lets me down and is still a favorite of mine after my many visits. The owner is amazing and one of the kindest people I know in this area. The portions and quality of the food have never been anything less than perfect and I enjoy the conversation with the owner while waiting. Even as we've gone through the pandemic they've worked hard to stay afloat, often working 7 days a week because they no longer have employees, and now it's only the owners who operate the restaurant. Despite people's complaints that they no longer offer dine-in, I'm thankful they are still open at all and still continue to make great food, and hope they're open for many more years. read more

Ate here for the first time on a weekday after a morning in Apple Hill. Despite the busy lunch hour, we were promptly served with a smile. We ordered the combination plate of orange chicken and one of kung pao chicken, which comes with egg drop or hot and sour soup, steamed or fried rice and a vegetable spring roll plus sweet and sour dipping sauce. The food arrived in the perfect amount of time, long enough that you know it's being made fresh (plus you can see and hear the cooks depending on where you sit), but not so long that you're wondering if you were forgotten after the soup. Everything was so incredibly fresh, and super tasty. Highlights: .Orange chicken was tender inside but so crispy on the outside and had plenty of sticky, sweet and spicy sauce, accented with orange peel. .The kung pao chicken struck just the right balance of salty and spicy without having to chug five glasses of water, the vegetables were all crisp-tender and the whole plate had a decent amount of toasted peanuts and sauce. . Not only were the ingredients high quality, everything had its own distinctive flavor, not like the same flavored MSG packet of sauce had been dumped on everything. .The egg flower soup was normal soup colored, not fluorescent yellow, and was filled with tender bits of chicken and veggies. .The food was piping hot, well spiced and seasoned and comfortably filling, veering from the heavy, overly salty and greasy tendencies of lesser quality Chinese food. I suppose the Apple Hill donuts we consumed earlier might have played a role in this, but we could only finish about half of our plates... Still, you get a very decent amount of flavorful, fresh food for the same price as other Chinese restaurants, that in my experience, serve inferior food. The place was a little crowded but that's a good sign. We will definitely be back for more amazing Chinese food! read more

All was satisfactory, and plentiful. * the missus and I ordered wor wonton soup, house fried rice, walnut shrimp and pork/garlic/eggplant. The soup broth seemed to be pork-based unlike the usual chicken or salt broth, but it was tasty. PLENTY of wontons, chicken, and shrimps with veg. The wontons seemed lacking in some flavor dimension - not unpleasantly so, but noticeable. The house fried rice was primo, including some 21/25 shrimp. The walnut shrimp was thumbs up: the shrimp was freshly battered and fried, the sauce was sweet but not too sweet (a problem with this dish) and the walnuts crispy. The pork/eggplant was also tasty, with fresh eggplant, sufficient garlic, and a pleasant chili burn. All in all, this Chinese restaurant sets the bar for the local brethren. Glad to have a good Chinese food restaurant in town. We ordered the salt and pepper calamari for appetizer. It was delicious and served with jalapeños which we love. Also got generals chicken, combination fried rice, pork mushu (selling?) and broccoli beef. These are some of our family's favorites and all plates impressed. White meat chicken, all served fresh and full of flavor. If this place maintains this level of quality it will be our new restaurant for years to come. The bill came to $61 bucks which is typical and we all get two meals out of the servings so glad to enjoy this place. I ordered it for pickup and it was ready to greet me as I walked in. Trying to figure out where all these 5-star reviews have come from?! You let me down, Yelp :( Had general chicken lunch plate to go and really wanted chow mein. Sucked I had to order an entire entree of it. Sucked even worse that it was the blandest chow mein I've ever eaten. I honestly wasn't sure if there was even salt added to it. I've had better frozen chow mein :( The general chicken had fantastic flavor but - as others have noted - the pieces were all golf ball sized or larger which was strange and unnecessary. The accompanying fried rice was mediocre but still good. Also ordered a side of gyoza (pot stickers) and this was THE strangest. Innocently inquired what style of ponzu sauce came with it (after placing my order) and was informed they simply provide the ingredients to make your own because they don't know how I might like mine. What the heck??? Sure enough, it came with 2 cups - one of vinegar and one of chili oil. She informed me you mix these with soy. I tried several times to get something - ANYTHING - one could generously call ponzu but totally failed. If you're going to do it that way (and why would you?!) at LEAST give me some sort of recipe with it. The pot stickers were *perfect* texture but the filling left something to desire. With decent sauce, these babies have serious potential. Have eaten at hundreds of Chinese establishments and have never seen pot sticker's ponzu done (or, uh, NOT done) like this. Overall very underwhelming and quite pricey. Was $50 for two lunch plates, an entree of chow mein and an order of pot stickers with two drinks. Ouch. Not sure I'll return. read more
