Unique and good spot for sushi! Reserved on a Sunday at 12 through Resy and they were able to accommodate early. Unique place that reminded me of my 7 years in Japan. Remove shoes before entering, sunken dining, and loaner slippers for the bathroom. Food was good, sashimi slices were thick, shrimp and vegetable tempura had a variety of vegetables, crispy rice tuna appetizer was good, and garlic edamame was delicious. I really enjoyed my experience at irori sushi. The staff was friendly from the host/hostess to the service staff. The dining area is pretty cool, you take your shoes off and walk over to your table where you sit on floor cushions with your legs below the table, suprisiy was pretty comfortable. We ordered a rainbow roll, lemon roll and spicy crispy rice. All the rolls were a good portion and were very filling for three people. The rolls were beautifully plated and the various fish in rainbow roll eye brightly colored. I really enjoyed the lemon roll because I love citrus and this roll satisfied my love for lime and lemons. Crispy rice were a little smaller than other spots and although it was good the rolls were my favorite. I will be back. read more

My new favorite sushi spot in LA!!! This place feels authentic and the food is incredible. There was a bit of wait when we went since I don't think they take reservations but 30 mins on a Friday night isn't bad to me. We got salmon belly sushi, tuna crispy rice, the hot night roll, the benji roll (a special), and the sunshine roll. Amazing sushi restaurant . I love the vibe starting with everyone removing their shoes, sitting at a low to the floor table with your legs in a hole under the table. The best part is a huge variety of sushi rolls and nigiri and an amazing special priced lunch menu that goes to 5:00 p.m.! This is in a corner of the plaza. You need to take off your shoes and you can sit japanese style or there's a hole to put your feet under for those not used to sitting like that. Food is amazing. I love getting the Japanese uni flown from Japan and the scallops. The build your own meals are great too. There's booster seats for the kids. I walked in on a Friday for lunch without a reservation and didn't have any issues. You put your shoes in the cubbies when you walk in. This time I opted for a variety of sushi (ikura, sweet shrimp, shima aji, kanpachi), ginza roll, and spicy tuna crispy rice. Admittedly their crispy rice isn't my favorite (I think b/c the crispy rice is square shaped and very crispy). After dining at Nobu earlier this week, I can hands-down say that Irori is definitely better. My go-to sushi spot. It feels like we're dining in Japan, you take off your shoes at the front and sit down in these little cubbies. Our server Minu made the experience memorable, extremely attentive and we ordered almost everything on the menu! These photos are from my most recent visit. However, my favorite rolls: premium rainbow roll, ginza roll, sunshine roll, and the zen roll. If you're wanting to try a bunch, you can try the sushi platter/get premium sashimi. My girlfriend and I have been on the hunt geo some great sushi in the area and we think we may have found just that! The first thing we noticed was that we were to take our shoes off and sit at our table in a traditional Japanese style (don't worry, for those who can't sit Indian style comfortably there is a void where your feet can rest). This brought back memories of my time living in Japan! We both opted for the omakase and were delighted with the speed and deliciousness of the menu. This is a truly exciting and wonderful experience. As soon as you enter you're asked politely to remove your shoes. If you're familiar with Asian and Scandinavian households this is a very common thing it gives the place a feel as if you're a guest in someone's house. You then find yourself in some unique seating arrangements either on a mat or at a sushi bar. The menu is quite large with a lot of options to chose from and I could not resist the lunch specials. I have to say I love Chirashi bowls they give you a nice selection of fish. I was truly amazed by the price point and how good the fish was for what I paid. The fish was fresh and absolutely delicious this is perhaps the best sushi I have had in the west side. They are masters at pickling from the huge pile of ginger to the radish in my Chirashi. This is truly a hidden gem. My grandma complained that my grandpa seemed to always have money for sushi dinners and none to get her nails done. Shoes off! We had the salmon sunshine roll and the rock shrimp roll. Both were very tasty however expensive and i didn't feel like it was totally differentiated from other sushi places. Spending a few days in the area and craving sushi. Saw that Irori offers omakase at a reasonable price ($100). It's in a strip mall, near the CVS. It's unassuming, but the food is excellent. The chefs are all Japanese, which is a positive sign for authentic Japanese cuisine. The service is friendly (we were seated right away in traditional seats - shoes off) and very efficient. Several people actual help you ... someone may take your order, but someone else may present the food or clear up the dishes. This helps things move smoothly. The omakase was absolutely delicious. You'll start with seared tuna breast - with a lovely shoyu sauce. Then fresh sashimi - 2 slices of tuna, 2 slices of ocean trout and 1 slice of cod -all so fresh and delicately prepared. Then a palate cleanser of cucumber and inari (fried tofu skin). Then several single pieces of nigiri - toro, mackerel and several others that all were tasty (but I can't recall the specifics), then comes rolls - a blue crab roll (tender, sweet and filled with crab), tamago (sweet egg omelet) uni (so rich with a luscious mouth feel) and lastly eel (also delicate and sweet). We ended with green tea ice cream and yuzu cheesecake. This is a hidden gem in a strip mall. Would highly recommend this place and can't wait to come back on my next visit! read more

In all my years, I never thought much about Irori Sushi. Turns out what an amazing experience hidden in plain sight next to Pavillions in Marina Del Rey. Once inside, you're seated on the floor, but your legs are free below the floor as opposed to cross-legged. It's cozy, traditional setting puts you in the mood for sushi. The service was excellent. The sushi was excellent, especially the melt-in-your-mouth cuts of toro. The Asahi served chilled in a beer glass was particularly impressive. Everything was hitting on all cylinders. The only minor point is taking your shoes off at the front, because if you need to go to the restrooms in the back, they offer guest slippers if you want to avoid the sticky floors inside. I love trying new sushi places! We tried the Butterfish daily special sushi. Get this. It comes torched and it adds a delicious Smokey flavor to it. Beef entree is served well done. It has teriyaki sauce on it. The tempura is borrowed (and later given to me) from my friends meal, not the beef entree. The udon is good as well! Service is fast. The interesting part is the taking off of shoes and walking around in seats sunken into the floor. It is so fun and remember to wear socks. Craving Sashimi. Didn't want to wait until the evening for Sushi restaurants to open for dinner. Ended up in MDR at Irori. It's close to home but never been nor seen it as it's tucked away and not visible from the parking lot that I've been in more times than I can count. Also for some reason, never came up in searched until the other day. So, like I mentioned, huge parking lot. Free. Same plaza as Pavilions, Kalaveras, T-Mobile and other businesses. But, unless you walk over into the circular parking, you won't see it. I questioned myself for a minute looking for the front of the place. Walk in, remove your shoes. So, don't wear socks with holes unless you don't care about that. Pretty busy for a late lunch on Saturday (~ 2PM). not so busy that there was a wait or you need reservations. Meaning, great service. Attentive. I'd say friendly but I was busy eating and on my phone and really didn't engage with the staff. As for the food - enjoyed the Sashimi, the oysters not so much. Too much sauce for my taste though not so much that I didn't eat them. I guess I'd say they were OK as they weren't bad. A few were pretty scrawny but not to the point of pointing it out to the staff. I just wouldn't order it again. On that last note, yes, I'd go back. Close to home. Parking. And I enjoyed the seating where it looks like you're going to sit on the floor but the depression or carve out under the table lets you sit, just not on a chair. read more

It's been years since I've been back to this place and it was nice to find it still has great service and fresh sushi. If you have never been, be prepared to take off your shoes and sit on the floor (they have dugout spaces for your legs). They do have 2 regular chairs in the corner for handicap use or if you have issues bending down. Menu is extensive with options for hot or cold, but sitting at the sushi bar is my favorite place if you want mostly sushi or sashimi. The chef will make suggestions for you if you wish and he will base it on your previous orders, so it's a nice personalized experience as it should be! They have various lunch specials ranging from a choose your option sushi, roll, or sashimi platter to combinations with hot portions for those not into raw fish. The tempura was nice and crispy but I found the batter a bit heavy. The sashimi salad was a generous portion of 3 types of sashimi, but I didn't care for the dressing which was too sweet for my taste. The sushi lunch special was a great deal even with several upgrades which I preferred to the standard choices. Fish was fresh and présentation was nice, but the rice fell apart when I picked up each piece. I look forward to going back and trying more now that I live in the area. read more

Might be my new local Japanese spot!! Lots of parking because of the plaza, which is nice. Came by on a Friday night with my boyfriend around 6 pm. We were seated pretty much immediately (heads up, you'll need to take off your shoes) which was impressive because the restaurant was already pretty packed. The fish was very fresh. I would skip the rolls and just order nigiri or sashimi because that's how fresh everything was. The service was also extremely quick - when we got our first dish I remember seeing the waiter and thinking it couldn't be for us since had just ordered, but it was ours! We also really enjoyed the tempura ice cream. The portion is large, so definitely recommend splitting it. A nice place to get dinner with some friends - will definitely be back! read more

A foodie friend first introduced me to this hidden gem in 2018 that's tucked inside a shopping center between CVS and Pavilions in Marina del Rey. Since then, it has become one of my favorite sushi spots for family gatherings, special occasions and introducing friends to great sushi. Food I've tried a variety of items on the menu and you really can't go wrong with their sashimi or nigiri. Rainbow Roll - A solid choice if you can't decide on a roll. They also offer a Premium Rainbow Roll that's twice the price but well worth it for special occasions (I always treat myself to this on my birthday!). Salmon with Blue Crab - A great appetizer filled with real blue crab and a hint of truffle that will make you want to order more than just one. Nabeyaki Udon - One of the best I've had. Unlike some places that serve instant tasting udon, this one is rich and flavorful with chicken, soft egg, tofu skin and tempura shrimp. Service The servers are wonderful. They are attentive, knowledgeable and happy to provide recommendations. Plus, they never rush you through your meal. Ambiance The cozy interior features low tables which create a traditional feel. Since you'll need to remove your shoes, be sure to wear or bring socks. Bonus: The bathrooms are clean (the women's restroom even has a baby changing table) and they provide slippers so you're not walking in with just your socks. The food was delicious, and most of the staff were friendly and attentive. Overall, I had a great experience and really enjoyed the meal. However, there was one thing that made me uncomfortable. A staff member named "Vivian" came over and started playing and touching with my child without asking for my permission first. I understand that she was probably just being friendly and had good intentions, but as a parent, I don't feel comfortable with someone touching or interacting physically with my child without checking with me first. I hope the restaurant can remind staff to ask parents for permission before approaching or touching their children. The interesting thing about Irori is that you take your shoes off at the front and place them in a cubby. The seating area is floor/mat style. I ordered the chirashi and it comes with salad and miso soup. The salad tasted nice and fresh but they put a ton of sesame dressing - too much to be honest. The miso soup was nice. I also got a hot water with lemon. The chirashi was a generous serving with thick cuts of fish. There were at least 5 different types of fish (salmon, tuna, 3 white fish cuts, pickeld radish, a cooked fish (?)) The rice was deliciously seasoned without being overbearing and the whole meal was very roundabout. The service here is very good, they constantly check up on you and take dishes away as you finish them. Sitting at the bar is pretty fun.
