If you are looking to get your eyebrows microbladed, I highly suggest going to Portia. I was looking for someone to do my mom's eyebrows so I started looking through different people's work and I really liked how natural Portia's work was. My mother doesn't have any eyebrow hair and has had old work done (the old school eyebrow tattoo) and it has faded out and needed new work done so I booked an appointment with Portia. First of all, Portia is really professional and super informative! Her website is really helpful to confirm if my mother was a candidate for microblading and also has instructions to follow before and after the appointment. Portia even gives you a little goodie bag to take home that includes what you need to care for your skin after the procedure. Day of the appointment, my mother was starting to get really nervous and Portia did such a great job making her feel comfortable and relaxed. She worked with my mom to achieve the right eyebrow shape for her face and her preference. Once the procedure started, it took about an hour and a half maybe even less excluding the 30 mins of numbing time. Once she was done, WOW, my mom's eyebrows looked incredible. Portia gave my eyebrows life again! Through my teen years, I went a little tweezer-happy. My eyebrows never grew back the same way. Finally decided that microblading was something I wanted to do. Just looking through Portia's before and after photos convinced me that she produced the most natural results. Contacting Portia was very quick and efficient. She was able to fit me in her schedule sooner than I could ask for, which was great! If you want to read a detailed account of my first microblading experience with Portia, continue reading below! Upon meeting Portia inside the Hue spa, she kept things very professional but also very personable. She did everything she could to make me feel comfortable throughout the process! She has you fill out a medical history survey, which goes to show that she truly cares about her clients' health and well-being. After all of the paperwork, we started off with some photos of my bare brows and discussed where I wanted to be in terms of #browgoals. Next, she had me lay on her comfortable chair to get nice and numb. She uses a topical anesthetic cream and places a saran wrap on top of it. Don't be surprised if you find yourself laying there for a while and falling asleep! This topical takes some time to penetrate the skin and work effectively. I lost track of how much time passed since I did have a lovely nap with classical music playing in the background. I want to say it was about 20 minutes or so. Now that the brows were nice and numb, we headed back to the mirror so that she could precisely measure and outline the ideal brows for my face. The outline defines where she will be working within; she stays inside these lines! Back to the comfy chair we went! Portia placed some pigment options on my skin to give me a choice of desired color. She informed me that it is usually recommended to go darker as these pigments do fade after healing. I trusted her judgement as she has been doing microblading for at least 2 years already. I am glad she helped me choose the darker shade. The microblading procedure is an interesting one since your eyebrows are numb, but you can still feel a tugging sensation. It is much like the feeling of when you're shaving a bunch of hairs but there is no actual shaving during this procedure. There was no pain felt at all as she made each incision. The skin does make a sound as each pass is done. The best way I can describe it is taking an Xacto knife to some paper. Don't let this scare you though! It is normal to hear this. Once the first pass was made, Portia went back and placed more topical anesthetic on my brows. This gave an extremely itchy sensation but quickly subsided as the anesthetic started to settle in. This just goes to show that she is willing to take that extra step to ensure comfort during the whole procedure. She added a few more strokes then applied a layer of pigment to let it soak in. Portia then cleaned me up and handed me a mirror. Wow! The results were amazing!!! It looked very natural as if they were my own. Portia is quite the artist as each feather-like stroke mimicked real hair! I am so happy I found Portia to revive my eyebrows. The swelling was at its peak about 2 - 3 hours for me. There was a lot of redness but no pain. It has nearly been a week since receiving the microblading treatment. I do not have any complaints so far! I am still able to go out and live life rather than be cooped up at home like I thought I would be. People have told me my results look really good and natural! I would have to agree! I can't wait to see how they look after healing up more and to see Portia again for my touch up! read more
