Every time I need a frame done really good I go there, The business is owned by a husband and wife team, you go there bring an old photograph or an award or just about anything or ....... (every single credit card that you have cut in tiny little pieces that I had it framed to remind me how easy is to get in debt). Just about anything you can frame. If you live in or near Staten Island there is no other place you should go to for your framing needs than Island Art Center. I've been going there for over 25 years for framing of my own artwork as well as for art I buy for myself or for gifts. Kathy and Tim are friendly, honest, knowledgeable, hard-working, and absolutely precise with every detail of their work. They will do the framing the way you want it done or advise you if you need their help. They will not try to sell you the most expensive materials. They will do their best to work with you to get it done within your time frame if at all possible. Recently I decided to price a framing job at Michael's using a coupon I received in an email. They said that without the coupon the job would have been $350 and it would take them at least 2 weeks to get it done. With the coupon, it would be $137. I shouldn't use glass to cover the art, they said. The job required a special acrylic material instead. I had no intention of using their services, of course, but I wanted to see what they offered. When I went to Island Art, Kathy priced the same job at under $60 and had it done in 3 days. Naturally, there was no need to use that acrylic instead of the glass. Let me start by saying that the sweetest people work here. I was running around crazy trying to get two of my drawings for my art class matted and it was becoming quite the difficult task. I called them last minute (i did not know that they were even open) and their customer service was exceptional. The convo on the phone was quick, informative and answered all of my questions. When I came into the store they remembered me from calling and we're quick to mat my drawings (they did it on the spot!!) They were completely understanding of my time constraints as I needed it for the next day. I wish I could give more than 5 stars they were amazing! I needed a few posters framed for use in my new office. I went to Island Art Center more out of convenience than anything else as it was close to my newly opened business. What an amazing find and excellent experience. Kathy is so sweet and has a really good eye for what type of frame will work for you. She knew my posters were for my office and she gave me something that looks so professional. Kathy did not try and sell me the highest price frame, she sold to me what was going to work best. I may have originally gone to Island Art Center out of convenience but I would travel from Tottenville or Brooklyn to get this type of service. The absolute best in Staten Island! I am a stitcher so my work should not be just put inside the frame. These guys know what they are doing, I have quality framed needlework all the time! I had terrible experience with chain-framers in Staten Island and I had the worst results! The work looked unironed, not stretched and the price was over the budget. They know what they are doing. They are also quite affordable. I trust them implicitly; they have never ever done shoddy work. Island Art Center is the best!! My son's framed print that was ordered over the web was just not right. We brought it into the store -- Kathy did her magic and now it looks fantastic. It was the first time we dealt with Island Art. I was so impressed with their workmanship that I decided to order prints over the web and have them frame them. Kathy worked with me for well over an hour , gave me choices and made sure I was completely content with my decision.. The 4 finished products are absolutely great.
