If you live in or near Staten Island there is no other place you should go to for your framing…read moreneeds than Island Art Center. I've been going there for over 25 years for framing of my own artwork as well as for art I buy for myself or for gifts. Kathy and Tim are friendly, honest, knowledgeable, hard-working, and absolutely precise with every detail of their work. They will do the framing the way you want it done or advise you if you need their help. They will not try to sell you the most expensive materials. They will do their best to work with you to get it done within your time frame if at all possible. Recently I decided to price a framing job at Michael's using a coupon I received in an email. They said that without the coupon the job would have been $350 and it would take them at least 2 weeks to get it done. With the coupon, it would be $137. I shouldn't use glass to cover the art, they said. The job required a special acrylic material instead. I had no intention of using their services, of course, but I wanted to see what they offered. When I went to Island Art, Kathy priced the same job at under $60 and had it done in 3 days. Naturally, there was no need to use that acrylic instead of the glass. The job was done beautifully as it always is. There really is no other choice. Go to Island Art Center when you need your artwork framed.

We've been coming to Brooklyn Art for over thirty years. Dennis and his team have done excellent…read morework for us including framing very old family documents, many dating from the mid 1800s. As a comedian I almost NEVER give a 5 star review bc they're not as much fun 2 write as those 1 & 2…read morestar disasters - but if I could give Dennis over at Brooklyn Art a 10 star 5 star review I would. Actually if Jesus returned and said, "Hey maybe no full time carpenter this time around, maybe I'll take it easy and just frame art" - then that's who'd Dennis would be bc that's the qualitative level of his work. And what's better is he prices his work like CRAZY EDDIE - his prices are just INSANE - it's almost like getting it done for FREE! I had 5 copies of an 8x10 that I wanted to frame and give as gifts. I live in Red Hook so I went to the closest - "Make a Frame" over on Atlantic Avenue in Cobble hill - who priced me at $174.00 for just one - and no discount on five!!! At those prices maybe they do have Jesus framing, but some how I doubt it. So searched Yelp again and found Brooklyn Art who priced me at $20.00 each!!!! INSANE! Why would I pay $154.00 more - on each one! - over at M.A.F.? I doubt there would've been that much of a qualitative difference noticeable to the eye. Just take a look at the pic I've attached - a beautiful job! I got all 5 done for $100. Great quality and turn around was just as insane. Dennis had done in just a few days. I'm sure Van Gogh would give his left ear, if he still had it, to have his works framed at Brooklyn Art - and you should too, but Dennis only takes cash & credit cards so the good news is you can walk out with both your ears, however if you go to that place on Atlantic avenue it could cost you and arm and leg - HEY OH!

The framing/printing staff at this store, Maria, Xiao, and Tera, have been such a pleasure to work…read morewith this year. They've framed and matted 8 or 9 pictures and made beautiful, archival prints from 7 or 8 special photos. These items have been in my phone and closets for years, and now, finally, there's enough time and cash to get everything up onto the walls. Having tons of questions and being aware of how complicated this can be, I approached the whole thing with trepidation. And now, couldn't be happier with the results. They asked questions, explained the process, and made suggestions that worked. Everyone has a great sense of color and proportion, and all the attention to detail and documentation you could ask for when handing over your artwork. Folks, thank you for the technical (cropping, getting digital images out of my Mac and into Blick's servers) AND artistic education. With Tera's enthusiastic attitude one day and Xiao's patient, calm demeanor the next, I forgot to be anxious and actually had a good time. Prices were reasonable and definitely transparent. Some of my things were complicated and/or special, and worth the $$$ spent. On the other end, there was no attitude and no shame for being unable to spend a fortune on each piece. For instance, Maria was happy to take a low priced stock frame off the shelf so that the complicated 2-opening mat one item needed was affordable. When a pick up was enormous and heavy, Tera actually helped me out the door, down the block, and around the corner. She waited with me for an Uber to come and get it all home! Though turnaround time is not instantaneous, Blick meets promised deadlines. Last but not least, shout out to Phil, another employee who chatted with me during a short wait. Details do matter.
