You have to be licensed to come here! They used to be open to the public and allowed everyone, while they kept professional products in the back. Not sure what changed. But they are now only open to those who have their license. Luckily I am a licensed cosmologist and I'm able to come and purchase product here. They have great brands, Redkin, Dermalogica, Alterna, Pravana, OPI, China glaze, and the list goes on.. The workers here are always friendly and do help out with giving advice or opinions on products. They do have another location in Waipahu, but I'm always at this one! Cashier ("aa" according to my receipt) is actually the rudest person I've ever encountered. She's an Asian lady who comes off as if you're disturbing her by asking her any sort of question related to her store. She snapped at me after she ignored my first question. I asked if she was able to find my account. She snapped and said something to the effect of "duh, or else I wouldn't let you purchase." Insert eye roll. The other reviews echo the same experience I had with her. Please shop around and perhaps use this as a last resort for your professional products. Honestly some of the worst customer service i've had on island. I had a bad experience my first time here but I figured I would give it a second try because I wanted to shop local instead of online. The second visit may have been worse. Dismissive and arrogant employees. I left without buying anything. Front part of the store is open to the public but the back is for licensed professionals only. Public not allowed to wander in the back. No Wella or Macadamia brand that I could find. I didn't recognize the brands on the shelves..I don't even recall seeing the same brands at Sally's. Approximately 10 open and free stalls fronting the store. Easy for quick pick ups! Customer service: We were greeted upon entering the door. Door says push hard. Lol Watch your step when exiting, I almost tripped. I'm not sure if I ran into the same girl with glasses as mentioned in another review, but she was sweet and offered her help. Zero star ratings for these people and their service. We own a few building in the area. My mom has been doing hair for many years and wanted to check out their store and what they have while me and my sister went across to HMart. A lady started going off at my sister in the parking lot while my mom was in their store purchasing products. They have some major issues with parking and control when there is NO CUSTOMERS in their store or in their parking lot. The red head lady is rude and stalks people in the EMPTY parking lot telling everyone that she is saving them from a tow of $200. No Aloha. Sad that they are located in our loving Kaka'ako Community because they do not belong in this peaceful area. If you guys want beauty products go elsewhere. Sadly I am writing this review because I had the WORST experience with one of the workers. I was coming in to purchase a couple of items I needed to restock on, but when I pulled into the drive way my tire popped (due to the horrible pothole right at the entrance, which the workers also told me that this happens 20-30 times a year) I handled my situation and called the tow company. The male worker came outside and checked if I was okay and while I was shopping offered me to stay inside because of the heat especially since it was going to take a couple of hours. but I kindly said no since I didn't want to disrupt the store with all the calls I was making so I was just waiting in my car. an hour passed and I guess it was time for shift change and he left , when the lady came in she instantly asked me to leave the parking lot or move because there's no loitering and I'm taking up parking ... mind you my car is undrivable , and it happened coming into their drive way ... I explained to her what happened and that I had just come in to make a big purchase that I wasn't just loitering . but thats beside the point and she still told me I have to move my car ... but I didn't , so she just kept observing me from the window for the two and a half hours that I was there and when the tow truck guy came to the rescue she told him to hurry up and was yelling at him to leave saying that we are making her lose customers, she for sure lost me ... read more

So thankful to have been referred to this store! This is where I get my OPI nail lacquer colors, hair equipment and various other beauty items that the hair style and beauty industry professional use. They have sooooooooo many colors for my nails. Plus, if you need any hair equipment from a straightening iron or a curling iron, they got it all. OPI does not ship to Hawaii (for some reason). So I'm so thankful to be able to buy them here. I also got these great Japanese made/technology masks for such a great deal! Only $5 each! man, if you could give zero stars I would!! Whoever owns this location needs to fire that asian cashier! She is the most rudest unsympathetic witch! I totally understand that the public isn't allowed to shop...i totally get how it would get nuts if everyone could come in! But my grandmother who is 94 yrs old and only renews her license to get professional quality hair color to color her hair! (yes, she still colors her hair!) she sent me to go get a couple of tubes. I was talking to an older haole lady who was trying to look me up in the system just in case. The bitchy asian lady the whole time while we're talking, very sassy, kept saying no no she has to come in store! I told i've come in before to just buy it and that's it but she kept cutting me off and kept saying no no no exceptions! The older lady who I've noticed has been working there for years - which is shocking to me because her customer service is HORRIBLE. She's rude af and always has an attitude when I come in or when she answers the phone. She needs to be trained properly or be talked to by upper management. The one employee working was nice and they are trying their best to keep sanitary which is great! They just didn't have a lot of the nail products I was looking for and the gel polishes they did have in stock were pretty pricey. I was looking for somewhere I could buy clear gel top coat in case of emergency and one bottle (.5 fl oz) was over $20! I ended up going somewhere else on the island and getting an 8oz bottle of top coat refill for $40. I am not a licensed professional by the way, just someone who owns a press on nails business. So the prices might be better if you do have your cosmetology license, I'm not too sure. read more

They are always rude and unpleasant. Specifically, a cashier that always wears glasses, doesn't even say thank you, EVER in the 5 times we've been there. She offered a product in a bigger size to us and we asked how much for the bigger size and she said something along the lines of, *the price is over there*, making us walk over and check ourselves. Excuse me, but, you work there shouldn't you know your own products? Literally if there was another Island Beauty we'd go to that one. I've been shopping here for years and always receive exceptional service from the friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff, especially Kat. Ive noticed that parking has been a little tight recently, and when I asked why, I was told that there's a problem with people parking in their lot to shop at HMart and Down to Earth. So maybe give yourself a little extra time to find parking. Definitely worth it to be able to get what I need though. read more

A woman I believe is the store manager yelled at my husband and was very rude to me. We parked there for me to shop. My husband was going to H-mart across the street to buy a drink, while I shopped. She came out and started yelling at him and proceeded to threaten to have our vehicle towed. I was a customer, which means we were authorized to park there. I informed her that she her yelling was uncalled for, and that she should not tow my vehicle. As I explored the store - almost immediately - she raised her voice at me again. She was telling me not to enter the part of the store that was for professional stylists. However, I wasn't even near the section. I was extremely upset, and my husband returned confirming that he did not want us to spend our money in the store, and I agreed. Her behavior was completely uncalled for. She did not apologize. Instead she double-downed on her rudeness. She didn't make amends for her error by being polite to me. Just awful and rude in every way. If I could give zero stars, I would! read more

The worst, nastiest customer service from this business today. The manager of this store has nasty attitude towards customers, because of paying with credit card??? At first I said that I will pay with credit card, but unfortunately, I bought too many items which totaled up to almost $400. Thus I paid with credit card (what kind of person carries $400 in cash). Soon after, the cashier started to struggle with the register system, and the manager kept making very angry faces and blamed me for paying with card! The manager also said with an annoyed face that, "All sales are final. No returns.", so I ask about what if there is manufacturer damage? She said I will check all the items right now, but she didn't check, because lots customers waiting behind me waiting, The manager never really said goodbye either, just push my items and go to other customers, she treated me like dirt, she ruined my day and it's so sad about people who don't like the there duty, just quit your jobs! And learn professional work ethic, Don't chase a way good customers!!!! There's no shopping here anymore! My suggestion; Just don't shopping from nastiest customer service business like this place! I just moved back home to Hawaii from the mainland and needed to find a supply store. This was the first place that came up on yelp & I decided to come here since it's close to home. I've been to MANY beauty supply shops and I don't think I've ever had service like we did here. The staff is so nice & helpful. I got everything I needed and spent so much less than I'd originally thought I would. I love that it's a local shop, as opposed to cosmoprof, and will definitely be using them for all my future supplies. I loved that they loaded me up with samples too! The last salon I worked at, we only used one brand so I feel a little out of the loop about other stuff so I'm excited to try all this out. Side note: it's a little ridiculous that people are giving them one star for only selling to licensed professionals.. We have to make a living off of the stuff sold here, if everyone had access to it, we'd be out of jobs. If you want to buy stuff, go to Sally's. Parking is plentiful, right up front. The variety of items are good however...the service inside was non-existent. After about 15 min.... I found what I needed on my own. Checkout was not so cool. No line (add one star). I'd selected the wrong massage cream and paid for it. As soon as I did; I'd realized that the cream was not "pumpable" in other words; I could not use it in my pump. How can I provide a seamless massage regime for my clients without a pumpable cream? No prob right? Exchange it right? Apparently it was a problem. The dark-haired woman at the front was clearly irritated (in-spite of my obvious apologetic nature) that I'd wanted to exchange for a lower-costing item. Anyway.... customer-service not at its' best. My bad for mistakenly choosing the wrong cream. This place only sells to those who are licensed, the prices are average and I'm on the fence about recommending it to others. Cosmoprof in Waialae is another option. My suggestion; be nice to customers because they are the reason you are in business, thank you. read more

Love the little move to the air conditioned spot just off to the left of their previous entrance. It completely threw me off when I came back here since it had been so long and now I don't know where anything is anymore. It's kind of strange because if you're a cosmetology student, they don't ask for an ID at all, anymore. I was surprised when they said "oh, you're a student?" and just rang everything up without question or ID. I mean, it's good for you, but a little off the usual since you usually need a license to buy products. Business practices aside, they usually have the stuff other stores don't have. Luckily, they carry Moroccan Oil, which is super popular and can be hard to find. Generally speaking, if one beauty supply carries a hair product line, the other stores usually won't carry it since their contracts are typically limited to a single island distributor, so keep that in mind. Our cosmetology school brought in representatives from this store quite often. It's really a local owned and operated store so they are big on loyalty and "keeping it the family", so they depend on repeat customers and word of mouth. read more
