Pedicure in Honolulu, Hawaii... Since today was Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday, metered street parking was free in Chinatown. I strolled around, not worrying about any time limits. As I was passing by Maunakea Beauty Salon, I asked the price of a pedicure. The answer was, "$30". I went to my car to get my flip flops! After I chose a color, I sat in a chair that had no water in its bowl. Ok. Eventually, the bowl was filled with warm, plain water. I turned the massage function on... A file was used to remove the existing coat of nail polish... ouch! After my feet soaked a bit, lotion was applied to my toenails which were trimmed and filed. The cuticles were pushed back and also trimmed. A couple of calluses were found and shaved! The nail polish was applied, followed by a brief foot massage and hot towel. Very basic. There were several other customers getting hair services. The lady next to me seemed to be a regular. She got a pedi and mani. I guess, for the price, I'd go back on another holiday or Sunday! read more

I don't know if the lower reviews were for the nail portion of the salon but I got my hair cut today and they did a good job! I was originally waiting for instyle hair & nail salon in Maunakea marketplace but their hair stylist wasn't in yet, I guess I was too early lol. Went around the corner to see if they had someone available and since she was I decided to try it out. She was a very good stylist and she had to work hard since I have a lot of hair and it's pretty wavy, she had to straighten my hair while cutting to make sure it was even. Price was decent, $35 for cut with layering and thinning out my hair. It's a little shorter than I asked for but I don't mind it at all. I think I prefer the other salon better but I would come back here if needed. They are open seven days a week and open early like 7am but she mentioned if they are slow they close early like around 4-430pm. read more

I'd say most 'tourists' skip this authentic Chinatown area but I'm so glad we explored it! We had really tasty 'pork buns' and Taylor had a superb detail on his car. I was in dire need for a manicure. I brought my own polish, hoping we'd have time. Taylor and I both got a manicure. $20! The ladies were extremely meticulous! Just like the good ole days when they actually spent time cleaning each cuticle and taking their time on each nail. Impressed! She gave a quick DEEP massage on the arms and neck. We gave them each a $20 tip because their work was perfection. Here is the tricky part of the review. The salon went above and beyond to accommodate both of us 'walk-ins'. Was the salon 5 stars? No. It's a very simple, WORKING salon. No frills. Would it pass a health inspection with A+? Probably not. Did we care? No. We wanted a good manicure and we got one of the best I've had! We enjoyed our walk around Chinatown Market. On our next visit, I'll go here FIRST, to get mani/pedi, my fill of Chinese bakery and fruit. It's a humble area and very much appreciated. read more

DONT GO HERE FOR LASHES!! I went here for lashes a couple times and I went back after a long time and it was painful my lashes hurt when she moved them and I cried a lot because it burned and smelt like nail glue. She also glued the frickin lashes straight on my skin and it hurts when I blink hard they're also very stiff. They should not be doing lashes. read more

I usually go here for eyebrow wax but yesterday, I decided to go and get pedi/mani. Anyways, the lady started doing my pedi and mani and half way through the service she asked me to pay already.My total was almost $50 so I gave here $60 dollars but never returned my change. And I am not satisfied with her work. It's only the second day but the gel is already coming out. She rushed the whole service and because of this, I will never go back there ever again for mani/pedi. What a waste of money. read more

We are regular customers at the salon but the last time we went owner Diane was rude she usually welcome other customers but not us. We sat down outside because the so called waiting area only had two chairs which was occupied. She was jolly, very talkative to men customers while cutting their hair. We had an appointment with another stylist to do our hair. Honestly, her lady employee do way better styling, cutting and coloring hair compared to her. We used to go to Diane for haircut and hair color but unfortunately she doesn't pay attention to details and what customers want rather she talks and rush especially when there lots of clients waiting. Once she was done with my hair treatment i sat down waiting. It was my friend's turn to cut hair and hair color. After washing my friends hair no one help her, her hair was dripping Diane was just talking and walking around. Completely ignoring us. While the stylist was cutting my hair. There are other workers who wasn't doing anything she could have called someone to help. I don't know how long that salon will last with that kind of attitude. Very childish and unprofessional. Don't bring your men to cut their hair, especially to Diane she wears revealing clothes i don't know if thats her way of getting clients keep coming back. read more

Located within the Maunakea Marketplace. Near the Maunakea street entrance is a small beauty salon. Overall experience is a 4, but as a whole 3. The service is great. Very friendly and always accommodating. I've gone to many salons before and this one is okay. The facility isn't the greatest, but they have functional machines and they keep it clean. I went in to get a pedicure. The downside is that they don't add anything to the water. I like when my water is blue, lol. So basically it's just warm water your feet is being soaked in. It was really relaxing though. They use pumice stones, no razor. It didn't take too long and the massage was pretty good. I'll say a 6 out of 10. Lots of clients come for haircuts. Nice people working there. The prices are reasonable and comparable to others in the area. The service provided is good. Not the best location but it can be convenient for many. The equipment isn't new, but it's functional. Give them a try. read more

After a long day of golf (I walked the course by the way), this was the perfect place to end up. Reminiscent of Anjelah Johnson's Nail Salon skit, I sat next to a tourist that wanted a Hibiscus Flower painted on her toe nail. After Hi Biz Cus was said about ten times I butted in and told the tourist, just show her a picture from your Iphone. It worked! For $20, this was the best pedicure that I've had. Not only was the service great but I had a fun time just sitting there listening to the conversations. The only bad thing was that the massage chair was broken *sad face*. I will be back. read more

First time here not too satisfied ... When I sat down and told the stylist what I want, he seems to understand what I wanted, which is great. I took off my glasses and began the cut. He took his time and I thought great! He's being careful should come out nice! Now please note, I am like blind without my glasses so can't see anything. After he's done ... Put on my glasses ... Upon arrival, I was instantly asked what did I want done or if I needed help. I told them I had an appointment at 12 with Diane for a pedicure. Another worker came in & got to doing my feet. Cons: 1) I noticed they didnt put anything in the water. It was just regular clear water. Other salons Ive been to put some kind of soap or the water had a blue tint. 2) As shes cleaning my cuticle area, I feel slight pinches BUT I just dealt with it because it happens. 3) When she scrubbed the underneath of my feet with the brush & pumice? It was so rough. I could feel my skin still burning after she stopped. 4) She massaged my calves so rough that I now have sensitive bruising... ONE WEEK LATER. Now onto the good stuff (: Pros: 1) She nipped away my baby hairs from my toes which gave my pedicure a much cleaner look. 2) The price was VERY reasonable even with the extra charge because I wanted french tip. 3) Location is very convienent, a little cluttered on the outside but clean & bright IN the actual salon. 4) She constantly asked if thats how I wanted it. She didnt just persist to do it HER way. OVERALL: If she was a little more gentle? My visit would have been better. If your looking for a reasonable pedicure? Try this place out. read more

I went to this place from a recommendation and was surprisingly shocked that the lash extensions were so cheap. I paid $45 for a full set and it was my first time. You park on the street there is usually parking on the parallel street where you can pay by meter, it is $1.50 per hour. The beauty salon is located on the second floor above the markets but it isn't hard to find. I went on a Friday after work around 3:00 PM with no appointment made prior. There were about five employees and maybe two customers so I was lucky and got my lashes done right away. There is a room in the back with beds where they do all their lash extensions. A girl named Mimi did mine within an hour which is pretty fast from what I've heard. The lashes are thicker than I've had before so if you are sensitive to the heaviness of lashes then maybe this is it isn't the place for you because they didn't give me an option of choosing the type of hair of any choice really for my eyelash extensions. I was very impressed that it only took an hour of my time to get a full set of lashes. Mimi did a fantastic job and the lashes look natural, they aren't too full and long. If you are more into the natural look then please come here because $45 for a full set is ridiculously cheap. They said that the lashes with last around 2 to 3 weeks so we will see how long I last. I've had my lashes for almost a week and so far they look fantastic. In order to get a refill said you'll have to come within 2 to 3 weeks but the refills are only $35 so it is definitely worth it. I am so glad I found a place that is affordable because I am not one to pay anything over $100 for lash extensions. Overall my experience was good even though none of the employees really spoke English, I was still able to communicate what I wanted. Plus I'm not that picky and I am easy to please so that worked out. You can pay with card and leave your tip on your card as well. If you arent sensitive to the fumes of the glue or the heaviness of the eyelash hair I don't know why you wouldn't be coming here. read more

Yes, I'm gonna give this place 4 stars, but that is based on getting mani and Pedis here. I have been coming here for about 15 years now. It's definitely a hole in the wall probably some place not many would go but that's why I love going there. The price is the cheapest but the work is pretty good too. I've paid more and tried other places but I always go back because you can't beat it. The only thing they need help on is... they need more nail colors. read more
