Stopped by this food truck outside of Costco. It's cute - and there are a lot of tables outside to sit at that are covered. I tried the coconut shrimp. It came with sushi rice and a salad. Island B.S.I. is one of the newer businesses to join the food truck line-up at the Plate Lunch Marketplace across of Costco. It's nearly been a year and their menu hasn't changed *too much* since they first opened. It features "b"ites of bao buns, "s"ips of boba and other drinks, and "i"ndulgences of cookies and baked treats. I have tried a handful of their bao buns, each unique and tasty in their own right. I enjoyed the crispy chicken bao with a sweet & spicy gochujang and surprisingly, the miso honey eggplant which is their vegetarian option. What I have come to enjoy most here though is their thai tea ube boba! I haven't found anywhere else that does this and I really enjoy this drink. All their bobas are served dairy free and the boba itself has a very nice chew -- different from other places. Not sure if it's how they cook it or if it's a special brand, but it's tasty and they make it just how I like it. Overall, I feel like it's a little pricey, especially for bao buns hence the 4 stars. You'll probably need about 3 to fill you up and that'll run around $20, so it's definitely a little splurge. It's worth it for a once in a while kinda thing especially since there's not many bao bun options on island. Definitely check them out though if you're in the area! read more

You can customize your tea drink by choosing from several fruits, as well as type of milk (oat or macadamia nut; all their drinks are non-dairy) and boba/no boba. Anything with pineapple in Hawaii catches my eye so of course I had to get the pineapple palmer which is a mix of pineapple juice and black tea. I for some reason didn't realize that it came with jelly on the bottom. Aside from the sweetness of the pineapple, it wasn't too sweet so the rainbow jelly helped sweeten the tea more. Maui lacks good bao buns. Luckily this food truck opened up in response to this crisis. I will be going back to try more buns but as a snack I got the duck confit and Ube Thai tea boba. This is an absolute must! The flavors pair so well! To make it better they are dairy free, so your milk options are macadamia nut or oat. I got macnut and the drink disappeared in seconds. If you're like me and like boba but hate when the drink is loaded with it, then their milk tea is the one for you. It had the perfect amount of boba. This place is the bomb! They're located in Kahului, Maui across Costco by Mo'ono, Thai Mee Up, and former Kalei's Food Truck. A family-owned business, their flavors are authentic and delightful. My favorite is the coconut shrimp bao bun (Bite). Pair that with the strawberry lychee coconut drink with lychee popping boba (Sip) and you've got the perfect combo. I would check out their desserts too -- I got the vanilla bean creme brûlée (Indulge) and it did not disappoint! Service was also great! Had the waffle stick, a crispy chicken bao, and an islands juice today. I loved everything. I already want to go back for the waffle stick again. It was so freaking good. So many yummy flavors, great waffle batter, great toppings. The crispy chicken bao was bomb, too, generous p of crispy chicken. Love the little cup of pickle stuff and taro (I think) chip. A pretty great concept for Maui; it reminds me of a few food trucks during food-truck socials in San Francisco. The waffle stick was definitely on the top of my list of their offerings; it's super delicious, a more uncomplicated twist on the Japanese pancake okonomiyaki. The traditional okonomiyaki flavors are definitely present. The only downfall is its size; I wish it were bigger because I was able to finish it in only a very few bites. I want to commend them on their packaging for it, though; I like how it is not wrapped in foil. **they updated their container to a box with a banana leaf. Now on to their bao buns; they definitely hit the nail on the head with the flavors. Not too keen on the price of one though. I would pay $6 for one, but definitely, $7-8 per piece is really steep. On my first visit there o tried both the unagi and duck, which tasted amazing. I did go back on two different occasions and tried out their eggplant and shrimp and wasn't disappointed in their flavors as well. All in all definitely a delicious spot; I do, however, wish the price was revisited because if were to I order four unagi, it would be over $30, and I still would be hungry. My daughter is a very picky eater , she noticed that they served milk tea which is one of her favorite drinks. She then ordered the bao bun with chicken, but she was worried about the sweet and spicy sauce, but after mentioning that, they put the sauce on the side. The service was very fast, and the food was very good. The chicken was very crispy and the milk tea had a good amount of sweetness. In the end, my kids even got some free stickers. Went to the Food Truck Oasis in Kahului, Maui. Tried a bunch of truck spots. None really hit home. Everything was tasty and fresh but nothing outstanding. Until I tried this Bao from "Island: Bite, Sip, Indulge". It was the least expensive one on the menu and I'm a big fan of eggplant so I gave it a shot. Gotta say, that first bite was the most special flavor I've eaten on the island and in a long time too...anywhere. It was a treat, with layers of flavors and textures I hadn't experienced on a truck in a long time. I used to own and run one. It takes a lot of effort to pull this type of stuff off in such a little tiny space and consistently. Afterwards I debated if I should try others but I quickly stopped thinking and went for it. Thank the heavens I did. Tried the Duck Confit and Unagi next. Again, a uniquely special burst of flavor from each and with their own individuality to boot. Crunchiness, sweetness, salty, crisp bright flavors and such a soft Bao bun as well. It was just absurd how great it was. Seriously the most special flavors on the island I have tried. I never write reviews about any trucks or restaurants or anything, but the fact they don't have social media I figured I'd give them a little hand here. That's seriously all they lack. Get on it crew! The staff/owners were so nice and really added to the whole experience. If and when I come back I'll be going straight there from the airport no questions asked! Mahalo! read more
