This was my first time visiting after a recommendation. I order a veggie plate with double cabbage, fried plantains, rice and peas. When I got the plate home, I smelled something burnt and assumed it was the meat on other plate that was ordered. When I began to eat I soon found that it was the rice and peas. I'm sure the chef knew this and smelled this while cooking. It shouldn't have been sold. This really left a bad taste in my mouth both literally and figuratively. Best recommendation if you want a variety of Caribbean options. Now the wait on the food will be lengthy if you don't call ahead however it's extremely fresh and tasteful. I was recommended this restaurant by a friend, and wow was I not disappointed. Loved getting the mango sorbet while I waited for the food. The portions were huge. I got the jerk burger with sweet plantains and yellow rice with beans. Everything was delicious and seasoned perfectly. Ok, I love the food here.... ..... but customer service is garbage. I walked in and I guess bc I'm not a regular speaking and smiling is reserved for regulars. I walked too the counter, stood for 3 minutes awaiting this young with an look of absolute disdain on her face, no exaggeration at all. I felt as if I was not welcomed at all, so instead of ordering a more costly lunch I chose to order to take advantage of the $1 Tuesday special instead. The girl started to allow me to speak my order and then rudely cut me off bc she saw this other regular walk in that apparently was a friend or new friend, "..he only wants me to take his order." Per her words. So this young man came over with a smile and took my order without making me feel not welcomed. Ok, I ordered at 1303 and didn't get my food until 1314. No worries, I only ordered two empanada but the guy who the girl was smiling at got a full plate and left before I could get mine. I do my best to patronize local small businesses but when the customer service isn't good it makes me not come back to be abused. You will respect my money or not get it. Food was great, had the brown gravy chicken with collards and mixed veggies. It was delicious! The collards (only in Friday's) were fantastic. One of the best preparations I have ever had. The veggies were vibrant colors and cooked perfectly. The staff was super friendly, the restaurant was spottless and they give out free sorbet! Was here recently and I usually love this place whenever I'm in town. But today *sigh* .. Everyone must have the Monday Blues. I ordered oxtails (my usual), paid with a credit card THEN was told that my order would take 45 minutes. Wait.. what?!? 45 minutes?!? Yeah, I have other things to do soooo.. no. I asked for a refund. I was then told that I would have to come back the next day to speak with a manager and get my money back. -_- I don't even live in TAMPA!! I was in town for that one day and decided to drop in. How smart do you have to be to figure out that people MIGHT want to know that their order may 45 minutes to an hour to be ready **BEFORE** they pay for it?? I'm just curious. Because I don't have an hour of time to spend on 22nd and Hillsborough. It's not even a safe area. Smh. Me and my family came in to eat and it was such a weird atmosphere inside. Absolutely NO customer service. The lady at the desk was on her phone and didn't speak loud enough to hear. We were just standing there with no idea if we should sit down or order first, The menu very muggy and unclear, as much as the place looks like a sit and dine in place it's not... my family ate I did not. I had the Dry chicken and tough shrimp watered down pasta. Side of soft cabbage. The only good thing i brought was the devil crab. I heard this place was good, i will test out 1 more time just don't get the pasta. read more

The man at the front desk young guy with a high top cut seemed like he didn't like me personally and had attitude this being my first time I was lookin at menu and I felt very uncomfortable I heard a racial slur me being a white woman I felt very displeased and will not be stepping foot into there establishment again . The food is very very good! I got the veggie burger and it was outstanding! The best I've ever had and my girlfriend got the shrimp and grilled chicken with yellow rice and beans and that was also very good. I only gave it 4 stars because the service can be slow so I recommend ordering in advance. The girl that works the front is so nice!! read more

Customer Service is everything to me. I went to the restaurant as a second attempt to try their food as the first time caused me to be ill. I ordered curry goat and the young lady brought back this food that appeared to look like bones in like a mustard yellow sauce. After paying a little over $13 for it, I asked for something else. What could've been different is the reaction of my request. I continue to go to a place for the service AND product. I hope they can do better in the future. read more

I heard about this place from a friend. Went there on Saturday 7/28/2018. The young lady taking orders was friendly and the music was nice. I ordered 4 meat pies 1 jerk chicken entree and one oxtail entree. The meat pies were very good to me a little spicy for my wife. The oxtails were very tough as tough they had only been cooked a short time. The rice and beans were ok. I was disappointed after hearing such good things about the place. read more

Homemade soul food, large portions and great prices. The food was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming.

Went here on a recommendation and LOVED it. We are visiting from California and I'm so sad that we don't have any places like this one. If your in the area this is a MUST TRY! The food is good. However, the customer service is a hit and miss. As a regular patron, I have observed the front desk staff's customer service skills. They do not greet patrons when they first enter the restaurant; they do not offer each patron a complimentary sorbet, while they are waiting for their food; and they do no properly communicate with patrons when there is an issue with their order. Furthermore, the front desk staff can appear to be standoffish and annoyed with patrons. On a positive note, you may get a front desk staff who is polite and demonstrate great customer service skills. Like I stated earlier in my review, the food is good, but their customer service is not always up to par. This may affect my decision as to whether or not I want to continue patronizing the restaurant. read more
