Oxtail Dinner Special with collard green
    Juanita S.

Was craving oxtails one Sunday afternoon and lucked up on this spot! It's been about 5-6 years since I've last been here but I remembered them to be be great and this visit did not disappoint! You have the option to call in your order, which is recommended since the inside space is limited. We decided to actually go in and take a look at the impressive menu on the wall. Just a side note, most Caribbean restaurants run out of oxtail by noon! The Island Crew not only had a plentiful amount in the afternoon, around 4, but they did not skimp on the potions! If you take a look at the picture, I received an unheard of amount! Gravy everywhere and the oxtail was LEAN- another plus! Don't forget to check out the banana pudding in the refrigerator! Another plus. We ordered the conch fritters as well and they tasted like we were on vacation! Don't sleep on this Tampa gem!

TLDR: Vegan Devil crab!!! Do it! Best jerk chicken in Tampa & complimentary water ice. We first tried island crew back when it was a food truck & I am so thankful they are still sharing this amazing food now at a new more permanent location. We drove 40mins to have dinner here tonight & it was so worth it. Solid portion size & super friendly service. Plenty of vegan options & the flavors are unmatched. Spicy jerk chicken & Cajun rice with cabbage, yummm. My husband had the chicken curry with red beans & rice, I of course tried it & man, it was so good. Parking can be limited as it's a popular dining option on a Saturday night, but do not let that deter you. It's a must try!!! This food smelled so good we couldn't even wait to take a picture before digging in.

You must wear your masks in order to come in. This is a 6 feet social distance restaurant so that everyone will stay clear of the Coronavirus When placing an order, you will receive a free icee. Yummy! 5 stars for sure. I had a taste for conch salad and conch fritters, so I found this place on Yelp. It's not to far from my daughter's house, so I was happy about that. Let me tell you, my grandmommy is from the Bahamas and when I tell you this taste like her conch salad and conch fritters, Lordy :-). I love Caribbean food and since that's what my family cooks a lot, I was definitely glad I stopped here. Next time, I'll select everything I ordered and will order Mac and cheese and shrimp and grits.

Of all the Caribbean cuisine establishments I have been too in Tampa (there aren't many), I received the best customer service here, thanks to the restaurant owner's son,Junior. What a pleasant young man! A casual dining spot in a strip plaza. The menu prices are actually reasonable as well. I opted to try the oxtail with brown rice and plantains while the hubs had the jerk pork with cabbage. We also ordered a side of Mac n cheese. I've had better jerk pork so that wasn't my fave. But everything was delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed the oxtail; tender, flavorful and it was a great portion size. The Mac n cheese was delicious as well. Will order again! To top it off, they offer a free scoop of Mango Italian Ice, which was to die for. So refreshing. I will definitely try them again!

I've only been here once for take-out, but this is my new favorite hidden gem in my neighborhood. Located in a strip mall near the Amscot, there was plenty of parking available on a Sunday. Since I had looked at people's pictures of the menu ahead of time, I knew exactly what I wanted to order: the curry chicken with cabbage and rice and peas. The curry chicken came with three generous on-bone hunks of chicken in a flavorful but not too spicy sauce with a couple of potatoes. The meat was tender and fell off the bone. Huge portions of rice and cabbage accompanied it, and it was easily enough for two meals. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the food was ready. The meal was very reasonably priced and came with a fountain soda. Both people working were extremely friendly and nice, and when I saw them scooping a frozen dessert and inquired about it, one of the workers gave me a huge scoop of their mango Italian ice to try - for free - yum! I can't wait to go back and try more items on their menu.

Check it out !!!! You will have a blast if you are looking for a great time, been there atleast 5 times. The owners are so amazing, when will you all come to Atlanta

I hate I don't have better things to say about this spot that we were really excited to try. I will…read moresay that upon arrival, everything seemed to be going fine. The owner greeted us at the door, it was fairly empty so there was no wait and we were seated right away. The ambiance is nice. It does look like you've stepped into the VIP area of a restaurant, so it was cute -- not fancy, but cute. The owner then told us about the restaurant being inspired by his mother, they've been around for 10 years, explained the menu etc., it was nice. He also told us that he hadn't been to Jamaica since a kid and that raised an eyebrow -- but we let it go because he wasn't the cook. MIND YOU, I brought my cousin here (who is Jamaican) after seeing decent reviews about it. He brought over our first round of drinks and they were really good. We really enjoyed them. They weren't strong at all, tasted like juice. So I would recommend just getting juice instead of the +$5 to add rum. As we began to order and look at the menu, the prices were really HIGH, but I guess he was going for upscale cuisine -- so we said OK, let's see what this entails. We all ordered the Taste of the Island plater that gave an oxtail, curry goat and jerk chicken, rice and peas, plaintains and a tiny side salad. I wasn't mad at the portions given, but the flavor didn't hit the mark at all. NOW LETS GET INTO THE FOOD The Jerk Chicken was OVERLY spicy; we couldn't even enjoy the flavor. The oxtails were fatty, sweet and BLACK. Not enjoyable at all. The goat was OK, but not very flavorful in my opinion. The beef patties were good, but probably out of a box. The Roti was good and the oxtail dipping sauce was good. The Honey BBQ Wings were pretty good and cooked well. The Mac'n'Cheese -- DO NOT GET THIS. It literally has NO taste and reminded me of the cup mac'n'cheese that you put the powder cheese in. It took so long to bring it out, I guess he kept forgetting about it (they said everything is made to order) -- which, IDK how you make mac'n'cheese to order. Real cooks know, Mac n cheese is NOT a 5-minute made to order meal. He also didn't ask how we enjoyed the meal -- which I felt like he knew what we knew when he saw that not only did the other table leave a plate full of food (the meats) but our plates resembled the same -- he still collected his coin. There is a 20% gratuity that is added on at the end that is ridiculous considering the prices are already so expensive -- MIND YOU, it is not "Elevate Cuisine", its basic Jamaican dishes on Ikea plates. No special plating, no unique sauces or display, no chef's plating or anything. Just a plate of food. Everyone's bill came in over $100. The table nearby us order the same thing and inquired whether or not we liked our food, but we'd just gotten our food and hadn't tried it yet -- we did warn them about the chicken being spicy, but not everything else. They came after us and left before us and left everything on the plate except the rice and peas. I love black owned businesses and I wish this much more success, but I would NOT recommend it to anyone that is looking for authentic Jamaican food.

I ended up getting the honey fried chicken and my husband got the jerk chicken. He loved the jerk chicken. The fried chicken was just okay to me, but it also didn't seem fresh, so I'd be willing to try it again on a regular day and see if it's better fresh. Now the sides? They were SO good. I'd go back for the mac and cheese alone. The yams and greens were top tier too. The service was great. The lady serving everyone was so nice and had the best energy. Mehhh!!! Considering that home (Southern California) has plenty of good Caribbean/Jamaican food…read moreplaces to choose from, this place did not hit! My honey found this place online while visiting Tampa. Eight of us got there to find out it is take-out only. How disappointing! We walked into the small hole in the wall, only to be treated like 2nd class citizens by the guy taking orders. He was NOT friendly at all! No greeting, no explanation of menu items, nothing. We should've taken that as a clue and bounced. As for food, plates are plentiful. My curry chicken was tender with lots of gravy. I wished it had potatoes and carrots as I like at home so that sucked. Rice and peas were soft. Cabbage was well seasoned, but the portion was small. When I asked the guy what side options I could choose from, he told me the plate included macaroni and cheese (super nasty attitude). After that unpleasantry, they had the audacity to leave the mac & cheese off of my plate. Additional cabbage would've been nice, at least! Others enjoyed the oxtails, jerk chicken, and wings. Everyone's mac & cheese looked stale and hard and all of them said it was awful. The plates included cornbread which I do not eat. Another bummer: no plantain or festival bread, my 2 fav's. I don't know what time of Jamaican food is in Tampa, but it is hands down subpar compared to what I'm used to at home. This place also needs a full gut job b:c it looks like the health dept will shut it down at any moment. lol
