May 15, 2026 Friday…read more Been going to this dentist since 2021; no issues until this year. Love Dr Pickering but she now only works part time, Wednesday and Thursdays, so it's become harder and harder to see her therefore, I decided to find another dentist. On May 4th, I spoke to office staff, Heather and requested my dental records be sent to another local dentist. She said she would email them digitally. As of today, May 15th, the new dentist still has not received my records thru the mail or thru an email. Secondly, I got a bill for $120 so before calling dentist, I call Delta Dental insurance only to find out that Dr Pickering is out of network, wait...WHAT? I wasn't ever informed of that. These two services (X-rays-teeth cleaning) have always been FREE and covered each year with Delta Dental. And, I've had DD since 2012. Soo, now, it's time to call Pickering's office. I call during off hours, to leave a voicemail. However, on that VM, it states you can text a 346 number, so I did. I sent a text on Monday May 11th hoping they'd get back to me on their open days of Wednesday or Thursday; they did not. I texted again on Friday, May 15th, still no response, so I CALL Pickering's office to leave another voicemail but a man answers so, I apologized because I thought I had the wrong number. I redialed. He answers again and says, you've got the right number, but it's my wife you need. I said, oh ok. And I hear a lady in the background say "gimme the phone, this is Heather," i said, hi this is Melissa but she cut me off and proceeded to defend herself as to why she hasn't gotten back to me; she's busy, she's got 3 small kids etc... Because she sounded agitated, I told her (calmly) that I was concerned over the lack of communication regarding getting billed, because it's been 5 business days since I texted, AND secondly, the new dentist has still not gotten my dental records requested on May 4th. She became loud saying that she snail mailed my dental records the same day i requested them and she doesn't know why they haven't gotten them, etc I said, you told me you sent them digitally, she denied that. I asked if I could come by and get them? She said she doesn't have them because they were mailed but, she's going to write off the billing charges because she's tired of dealing with me. Ooh-kay! You sure right, lady. I said, thank you and hung up. I'M DONE with this dentist office because of Heather. I'm done because of the limited business hours. No longer recommend it.

I have traveled and lived in other countries since I was 2 in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Third World countries denistry not good. So I have deep fears of going to the dentist. Not once have I ever felt pain or had fear of Galveston Family Dentistry. Dr Pickering is very thorough and to the point. Her assistant is one of the best when it come to cleanings. Even the front desk is very sweet and concerned to my needs. I highly recommend this place. You will not be disappointed.

Background about me: I have been going to the dentist (for some type of work not just checkup or…read morecleanings. Basically, my main visits to the Dentist were surgery related (extractions, fillings, root canals, etc). These experiences were not that great, as the work itself did not hurt but the injections (to numb) the gum, hurt so bad, that I cried every time. I had a very sweet tooth as a child. I hated going to the dentist, no matter what it was for (even for a check-up). I was referred to Affordable Dental by a friend. I live in Houston but I was willing to drive to Galveston (45 minutes) based on a referral. So they had better be good. I got there a bit early (I am usually late for everything lol). They quickly took my information and then I went for consultation. Long story short, I had to extract 2 teeth and do a deep cleaning (refer to my background lol). I still have to extract another wisdom tooth but I thought 2 extractions were enough for one day. So had my deep cleaning, no biggie. The extraction was next, here comes the NEEDLES. Fast forward (after the extraction), I had little or no pain when I received the injection, and coming from me that is a miracle. My gums were sore, of course I just had two extractions but after a day or two, the weird feeling went away. I also, would like to comment the dental assistant, as my deep cleaning was great, I use to have gum bleeding but no more. Also, I'm not sure if my insurance was that great or their prices were really affordable. I have never been to a dentist office paying less than I did. I would HIGHLY recommend this place, and I have already scheduled by cleaning for September and another procedure in December.

The front desk and hygienists were some of the least friendly I've dealt with in 30+ years. The dentist himself was fine and did a good job cleaning my teeth the day before, but overall the experience was frustrating. Then when I called on October 29th around 1:20 PM to have my x-rays sent to my new dentist, the receptionist was incredibly rude -- if I could give negative 5 stars, I would. I won't be going back.

Second visit more $$$ was told I had a heavy bite and they ground down my bridge, it did not fix my issue, 3rd visit more $$$ I was referred to a specialist who found the issue was I needed a root canal and it did not take long to figure it out, and they did not take the time to see if that dentist took my insurance so more money out of my pocket. Either the Texas City Family dentist is rushing through patients and recommending the Periodontal cleaning to keep their people busy and no one there can read an x-ray, either way I was in pain for over 4 months and they billed my insurance for the first visit which I paid for because they were going to charge my insurance more than $400 and it was going to be a special of $75 or $80 they still charged my insurance even after I paid the fees. I have lost all confidence and trust in this dentist office; they play Christian music but does not seem to fit the pattern of how they operate. So be careful to find out how much up front for cash and insurance get a second opinion because I am not sure they are paying attention. My best to everyone I hope this saves someone the frustration I went through.

I needed something done sooner than that. I asked a local resident I met at the pool and she said, "Go off island. Check out Texas City Family Dentistry; so I did. Let me be up front with you: I don't have dental insurance and I'm scared s---less about dentists. I haven't been for many years because of past experiences and I wouldn't have gone now if I didn't have an issue. I have a real fear of dentist, but, I put on my "Big girl Pants" and off I went. After my first visit to TCFD, I am SO GLAD I DID! These people are AWESOME! Dr. Patterson is so friendly and thorough; and Jessica, the hygienist, is gentle! They took a million x-rays (including using some little pencil type one inside my mouth - never saw that before). We worked up a care plan - I need one filling and deep cleaning. I will get this starting next week in two sessions. The prices were the same as the one on island - no surprise there - but using Care Credit, I can pay over 12 months no interest, so that's perfect. What I did like was instead of paying for my whole mouth to be planed, the hygienist goes through measuring each tooth at the gum line and only planes the ones that need it so I saved some money on one quadrant because it did not need it. Very good for the budget! Also Dr. Patterson took a more conservative approach to the tooth that the other dentist said needed a crown. We are going to try a filling first and only put a crown on if we have to. So I like that. All in all I was very satisfied with the initial consultation. Jessica, the hygienist, could see I was very nervous, so she put some numbing rinse in my mouth. OMG - this is miracle stuff! I hardly felt her digging away at my gums at all during the measuring and partial cleaning. When I come back for deep cleaning, she says this will help me not feel the needles so she can dig deeper. In addition to the extra numbing rinse, there is a tv on the ceiling. They give you a remote and earphones to help distract you - I watched a session of Good Bones! Between the swishy stuff and the tv, I was as relaxed as I've ever been at the dentist. I'll write more when I come back for the drilling and the deep cleaning. AFTER 1ST TREATMENT: I was really nervous about going today to get my work done. I got the swishy stuff right away; but, unfortunately, Dr. Patterson came in right after the swishing so it didn't have as much time to "work." However, I didn't feel the numbing needles at all except for the two to the roof of my mouth. But I was told they're not pleasant no matter what. After I got through that, he let me sit for awhile to numb up. I was excited about getting the TV going to distract me; but, unfortunately, the headphones wouldn't connect with the tv so I had no sound. I can honestly say I didn't "feel" any of the drilling, but my mind plays games with me so I did have some struggles getting through it without the distractions of the tv. We had to pause a couple of times to let me get myself together. But I made it and it honestly didn't hurt. It was only my nerves getting to me. After the filling, they moved me to a room where the tv system worked for the planing. I had no troubles there at all because of the distraction of the tv and Jessica was awesome. She really is a super great hygienist. If you're like me - have a real phobia of dental work - I highly recommend Dr. Patterson and Jessica. I honestly think after going to them for a while, I'll get over a lot of my fears; maybe even all of them! I"m much more optimistic now about keeping my teeth healthy
