I went in over the holidays (late review, I know) looking for a homemade Christmas Rum Cake for my mom who always gets homesick around the holidays. She's from Jamaica and this time of year hits her a bit harder than others. Not only was I able to purchase a whole, homemade rum cake I grabbed a few patties while I was there. The case was absolutely perfect! My mom was over the moon!! The patties were also like I remember. I don't want to knock other establishments but many struggle with having enough filling, nice spice, good flake. These are delicious. I don't live in the area but if I did I would try to get out there more than just my one experience. And if I had been going directly home I would've tried more of the food. Next time I'm in the area I certainly will. But for what I needed, having tried other restaurants in search of this oh-so-special gift for my mom, which was her favorite Christmas present of all, they hit it out of the park! I'm going to make this review quick. This was my first time visiting this place as I usually go to Golden Krust because I didn't know of any other West Indian places around here. I decided to give this place a try but I think I made a mistake. It was overpriced, the food wasn't good and the server was very cheap! I visit a few time a year to get my curry fix. They have fresh food daily and reasonable prices for my favorite Jamaican dishes. The service is okay...most of the employees are friendly. Once in awhile they'll try to skimp on my portions, but I am pretty good at reminding them of the price to portion ratio. read more

Yesterday, I went to this restaurant because I'm new in the area and was craving some good Jamaican food. I got an order of Oxtails with rice, peas, and vegetables. The other plate was jerk chicken with white rice and vegetables. First, I called the restaurant to make sure they were open and the woman who picked up had a terrible attitude and rushing me off the phone. Next, I did appreciate that they gave complimentary plantains and they were okay however the food was not good. I order extra cabbage and didn't get them and when I told the woman working behind the counter, she refuse to give me extra because I didn't have cash. Next, the jerk chicken was extremely spicy with no flavor and I can handle spice. The oxtails were too salty and fatty but the white rice and rice peas were decent. I like the food there, however my daughter hates it, she swears they cannot cook. I find the food quite tasty and I do enjoy eating there from time to time. I used to come here often. I noticed that their portion sizes changed as time went on so I found another spot. I decided I would give it another chance for my SO. Oxtails are an expensive dish - in general - however - I caution to NOT come here for them. $15.00 for 5 SMALL bones is a large $12.00 for 4 SMALL bones is a small. If that is their guidelines - I can accept that EXCEPT they had NO cabbage. They let us know they were low on cabbage and plantains so we would not get a full meal. Rather than substitute for more meat - (which would have been acceptable if I'm still paying FULL PRICE for a meal) - they added extra rice. Don't nobody want no more rice!!!! I went back to ask about it and she said that oxtails are expensive. Once again - I'm fine with that - however - When I ask her about this half a meal we got - she was basically like "oh well - boo!" At that point I realized I have other things going on in my life I need to tend to so I just told her the meal was thin and left. He said Island Jerk! Now I had seen this place in the shopping plaza but never stopped because of the location. I went the next day with our son and bought yet again, another curry goat plate (it was on point!). My son ordered Jamaican beef patties. I tasted them and they were hot and stuffed with beef! I also order the coco bread because I read from a reviewer how delicious it was. OMG! It was Sooo soft, Sooo sweet, Sooo delicious! I could taste the curry and seasoning on my lips all day!! The chicken patties are delicious for a quick snack and they are always warm. The wait is a bit long sometimes but it's worth it. I love the brown stew chicken and the curry goat. The safest thing to eat from here would be the Jamaican Pate being that they take it right out the box and toss them in the oven (although they make it seem as though they make it themselves) oan if you go when they just open you get the freshly reheated ones from yesterday. The rice is usually cook from 2 days ago so there goes another food served as fresh but yet microwaved. They serve EVERYTHING fresh out the MICROWAVE. (Speaking the truth from behind the scenes). If you don't believe me when you order your food listen for the beep of the microwave. The only thing that is actually made to order is the curry shrimp. The king and snapper fish is just reheated out of the fridge in to its sauce. The foot traffic that you see going in and out of here can't attest to the amount of food they have leave over to serve you the next few days as fresh. The second safety thing to buy would be the Brown stew chicken that usually sells so its usually cooked daily with some lefts overs and you just can't tell sometimes because they will mix it together based on when it was cooked!!
