I decided to try this restaurant. I got the pork chops smothered and I thought the gravy was going to be thick like I saw pictured on someone else's review. I don't like watery gravy. The fish tasted too fresh and I couldn't eat it. The macaroni and cheese tasted like velveeta shells & cheese & the black eyed peas were too salty. The mixed green salad was supposed to be a caesar salad.Needless to say I didn't like anything I ordered and this wasn't cheap. This is my second time having lunch here. The owner always gives you a warm welcome and makes it her business to stop at your table and talk with you. I love her ginger beer she makes fresh. This review is based on two visits to Musulyns. The first visit on Aug. 23, I ordered two fried pork chop meals to go. I live about 30 minutes away, but was just leaving the hospital and too sick to cook. The hostess was so polite, professional, and patient with me. When the meal was ready, she could see me struggling to get up and walk. So, she helped me up and escorted me to my car. I will patronize this restaurant as much as possible just because of her service and compassion. For the pork chop meals, the pork chops were well seasoned. However, I didn't like the cheese used in the macaroni and cheese. It reminded me of processed cheese. And, the collard greens were too bitter to eat. I prefer a more soul food version. The mashed potatoes were garlicky and good. The yams were sweet and delicious. But, the two together weren't the best idea. The second visit Aug. 26, my daughter and I decided to dine in. The same young lady was our waitress. I totally hate that I can't think of her name. Again, she provided exceptional service. She was attentive and patient. She really has a great personality. It took us a long time to decide what to order and she answered every question we had while still being attentive to the other tables. The place has a nice vibe. I love that there was a decent amount of space between each table. My daughter enjoyed her smoked ribs meal and I enjoyed my oxtail meal. The cornbread was very good. My goodness! I am kicking myself & hard for not trying this place earlier!! How has this been in my town, that has mostly lack luster options, has it taken me this long?! My mom who is vegan had the Sweet Potato Curry. My dad had the Catfish with collards, Mac & cheese, & corn bread. We all really enjoyed our entrees. We shared a Biscoff Banana Pudding for dessert. I'm drooling thinking about it. I need that recipe! Now listen, my 83 year old dad is the biggest food/restaurant critic out there. We really had to do some convincing & coaxing to get him to come with us. He ate every single bite of everything! I mean bone clean plates. He is always concerned with health scores as well. When we walked through the door I reassuringly pointed out their 100 A score on the wall. That is something they should be very proud of. I've seen Musulyn's for a while and decided to take out my family and we were pleasantly surprised. I wanted something different to eat so I tried the pepper soup and fufu. It was actually the third African dish I've eaten and it was absolutely delicious. It had shrimp, crawfish, turkey necks and pork in this rich and spicy broth and a heaping helping of fufu. I enjoyed it very much. My wife ate ox tails, jollof rice and plantains and she enjoyed it as well. My son ate fried chicken and jollof rice and of course he loved it. The food was delicious and unique and the service was top notch as well. They actually give you a small sample of their African dishes if you'd like. I highly recommend and have been again. I ordered a ginger beer non-alcoholic which I thought would come in a can but was homemade and spicy and delivered in a bottle that we could take with us. How did I just now discover this gem tucked away less than 10 mins from me? My dish was absolutely delicious. I ordered the Braised Oxtails & Gravy that comes on a bed of rice with a side of extra rice and Candied Yams. 2 plantains came on the side. The Oxtails were so tender and full of flavor.
