This was my second time in to Pete's in about a two week period. Both times I ordered via DoorDash for pickup. The first time, I still had about a 10-15 minute wait even after the app said my food was ready. This second time, I was able to get my order right away when I walked in. The staff is always friendly regardless of wait time. The restaurant is really a grab and go location; there isn't sufficient space or set-up for dining in. Each time I've been, there has been consistent for traffic in and out, so it's pretty popular. On my first visit (while standing around waiting for my order to be ready), I learned from listening to other ppl order that there is a lunch special where the meals featuring chicken are cheaper. I believe it goes thru 1pm. In my first visit, I tried lots of things and was largely disappointed in the taste. I had the brown stewed chicken and oxtail meals (both ordered with heavy gravy), a turkey wing, a chicken soup, and coco bread. The oxtails were the only thing I truly enjoyed. The sides on the meals were just okay except the plantains. The plantains were hard and dry, truly inedible. The chicken soup wasn't flavorful enough; I wouldn't order it again. For me, the turkey wing seasoning was too spicy, but my husband enjoyed it. On this second visit, I went only to pick up two turkey wings for my husband, as he has continued to talk about trying the turkey wing again. He ate them both for dinner along with some homemade rice a d veggies. He wanted to order sides but I discouraged that based on the first experience. Pete's is located in a strip mall that seems to have some other Caribbean businesses, including a market next door. This little place is hidden in the shopping center right off Jonesboro rd. We were greeted promptly when we entered and the place seems to be clean. I really like that they have different sizes to choose from because most Jamaican places have one huge size. They have small, medium and large. I got the small and it really filled me up. read more

Really good Caribbean spot that I found through Yelp since I was in town for work. They have an amazing lunch special for $5.99 but it only pertains to their chicken dishes (jerk, curry, or brown stew). It comes with rice and peas, cabbage, and one plantain. I asked for extra gravy but I didn't get as much as I wanted. Totally okay. Flavor was great, the chicken was tender, and the portions are generous for the amount of money. I'm just shocked in all honestly by so many high reviews. I ordered the oxtail plate and highly disappointed. Those were not Jamaican not even Caribbean oxtail it was more of what you get at a soul food restaurant. The rice was overcooked with no flavor. I was in the area and was excited when I stumbled across this restaurant. The location is in a plaza with ample parking so that made it even better. Upon walking in, you are captured by the authentic aromas that fill the air. It is a very quaint location and it is super clean and has a nice seating setup. I ordered the veggie plate and to my dismay, it's a set plate. It comes with cabbage, rice and beans, and plantain along with a side of macaroni and cheese. I am accustom to being able to select which vegetables and/or sides I want on my plate, but I was already inside so I purchased it. I checked in via Yelp and was able to get the free patty as advertised. Of course I got veggie. The cabbage was AMAZING. It was perfectly steamed. The simple yet diverse seasoning blend paired perfectly with the blend of shredded carrots. It was truly a great eat. (I would order this alone.) The macaroni and cheese was perfectly cheesy, very filling, and baked just long enough to have the brown top but not be too hard to enjoy. I would order this alone again. I picked here over Golden Krust due to the reviews, but it won't happen again. Disappointing- very- curry chicken, very bland and didn't taste good, I actually threw it away. Additionally, the carrot juice which the server advised me to take home and pour it over ice, tasted old. I don't have to usually do that elsewhere. May have been the worst curry I ever had. Very disappointing. Now they do make their patties on site and have many flavors so I may try one or more of those and if those taste better, I will update my review. Not sure, what happened or if same people cooking. I see a lot of great reviews, but that day, negative. I spent $13 to go to the trash both the juice and the food :-( read more

I decided to give Pete's a try today instead of my usual go-to spots for Jamaican food (Ablends or Jamaican Taste) and I regret doing so. I ordered large oxtails and this is not Caribbean oxtails the flavor is way off and they didn't bother to trim off the excess fat from the oxtails. The rice n peas are bland and the beef patty tasted like no beef patty I have ever had before. I always support my local mom and pop stores before going to a franchise store like a Golden Krust when I can but this is one mom n pop store that I cannot support. read more

I can't brag enough of this restaurant. I've eaten food from here for many years now. Always spot on. I will say that I eat the same every time, which is Jamaican Jerk Chicken with heavy gravy. The chicken is always very tender and flavorful. The cabbage is also soft and delicious. So good that several times I've placed a second order of it to go. I usually pay around $12 for a medium plate, however, I tried their amazingly priced lunch special this week, $5.99. I was afraid the portion would be small. I got eh oxtail plate which came with rice and beans, cabbage, and plaintains. My husband had the jerk chicken plate with the same sides. I wish I had got an extra order of plantains. The ox tails had good flavor and the jerk chicken. I am also got my first beef patty. I didn't know the consistency was a tad bit mushy but, it was good. We came in on Jerk Pork Friday, for dinner. They sold out by 12pm. What ? So I met Pete and we spoke for a little bit. I told him it was our first time here. He offered some curry goat for taste, for first timers. I asked about the Jerk Chicken. They said it was everybody's favorite. So, I ordered me some Jerk Chicken. I also got a Jamaican patty. My friends (party of 4) ordered the Curry chicken, and Jerk chicken. Everybody loved the food. One in our party is from Jamaica. She is usually a complainer and on this day she did not say a single word, which means it's really good. They all asked if I had eaten here before? I told them, no! My Yelp says it's good so I will go. I promised that they would like it. They had their doubts. They are now believers. Now, don't think you are going to just come right in and get a table and sit down. This place is very small and can seat 4 in one table and then they have bar seating for 4 and 4. People are usually seated waiting for there order so be patient or just ask if you could sit down and eat. They have many to go orders so again, be patient. It's worth the wait. I recommend. Called to place a small catering order the day before for my last minute 'birthday girl's night'. Ordered a pan of oxtails, rice & peas, and cabbage. I took a chance based on Yelp reviews only. Sooooo glad I did! The food was absolutely delicious. Oxtail was tender and tasty! Staff was accommodating and friendly. Everyone so personable. You can definitely pick up the family-vibe. Service was excellent, prices seem to be about right but the food wasn't real West Indian at all. I ordered stewed chicken and oxtails (for my Jamaican husband) which came with rice and peas, cabbage and plantains (which we didn't get). Both the chicken and the oxtails had the some instant or processed jar beef tasting gravy. Both meats didn't have a hint of west Indian cooking. The rice and peas was just white rice with peas added to it. What happened to the coconut milk. The cabbage was basic but again not Jamaican. I'm sure the plantains were good but they were no where to be found. We are here working so I'm not sure if the locals require less flavor but this was by far the worst take on Jamaican food I've ever had and I'm a chef. This hole in the wall is great. Very reassuring when one of the staff had a Jamaican accent. I checked in on yelp and got a free Patty, I had no idea what a patty was, but it is a pastry with filling that was delicious, I got the beef. I grabbed jerk chicken to go. It was a very healthy serving for a reasonable price. I believe this was the best jerk chicken I've ever had accompanied by rice beans some cabbage and a couple sliced plantains. The good: the beef patties are decent, the crust is very flaky. The bad: oxtail and stew chicken was terrible. They both tasted like some type of a gravy mix with zero seasoning and tons of salt. I have been to Petes Bakery several times and after this visit I can honestly say it will be my last. Prices are not worth the amount of food. I paid over 20$ for the oxtails and got 5 mini oxtails and fat not even trimmed. The lady at register taking orders is very short, curt, dry and rude as if you know what items are available since in the past they were out of main items on menu.
