This past Saturday, while roaming about the farmers market after getting a green smoothie ('Ōma'o Man) and checking out the fresh omusubi (The Rice Factory), we came across Roscoe's Sourdough. What caught our eyes at Roscoe's Sourdough was the fabulous display of their fresh baked sourdough breads. The loaves of bread ranged in flavors, shapes and prices ($5 - $10). The appealing factors of Roscoe's Sourdough were their impressive crisp crust, beautiful "bloom" (color) and crumb. Especially attractive to me, at the time, was their Olive-Garlic focaccia square priced at $5 (mainly because we hadn't eaten breakfast yet). second loaf that attracted me was called "Da Purps" which has the purple Okinawan sweet potato listed as one of its ingredients. However, I didn't want to get ahead of myself so only purchased the focaccia. I didn't get to chat with the woman behind the table as she and another woman were having a conversation so I wasn't able to get any background information about the baker or his business. However, I did only interrupt to ask to purchase a square of focaccia. She was friendly and smiley as she packaged a fresh square of focaccia into a plain brown paper bag. We rushed home to tear into some of this sourdough focaccia. Its mild sourness complemented the roasted sweet garlic and olive oil. The focaccia was delicious at room temperature as its chewy yet airy structure made for a great mouthfeel. I did think about lightly toasting the focaccia and smearing it with some butter or dipping it into an olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip. Instead, I cut the square horizontally to make 2 squares while sautéing mushrooms, onions and garlic as a topping. I then topped each focaccia half with the mushroom mixture, sprinkled feta cheese atop and toasted the focaccia until the cheese melted and focaccia was warmed through. In short, the warmed sourdough focaccia tasted better than its room temperature version. I can't wait until next Saturday to try a loaf of Roscoe's Da Purps or maybe the classic O.G.

Quality of produce varies- now that businesses will be opening up next week, timing was perfect. For myself, I'd choose fresh and unblemished produce. Percentage wise, 70% of the time the items were okay. The remaining items I'd personally would have not chosen the quality of some items I.e., wilted, slimy ends in plastic bag, blemished dings or scratches on items, nicks in skin of produce. For this last order the items were good. Unlike last week's driver, who rang the doorbell, different driver today never sent a final text or notification that produce had arrived. With this heat, lettuce would suffer. Be cautious. My four deliveries were a gift yet I received a message after my 3rd delivery that I owed $50+- unbelievable. Also was told someone put a hold on my delivery and did I want to activate up again. Seemed screwy, and undoubtedly alarming to me. I tried to keep calm and composed so that there wouldn't be a backlash on what was in my final bag. I'm glad someone surprised me with this as a gift. Gave me the chance to experience delivery to my front door. Rocky start but remaining 3 deliveries got better. Super glad I received regular sized tomatoes and head lettuce vs loose leaf for this ending delivery. Live and let learn. Note: you need to be a lover of veggies. My crisp bin still has some unused items from last week's delivery even though I cooked daily and incorporated veggies at least twice daily. I didn't want to see another carton of tiny tomatoes for a LONG time, honest! Thankyou my gift giver and mahalo to the person who bagged my produce today- awesome job today. Okay, all pau, literally, the end.

My husband signed up for a weekly bag that he would pick up at Ala Moana on Saturday. The items in the bag depend on what is available, so you do not get a choice of what goes in the bag. It is $30 per each bag. There are about five or six items per bag. Bags have included onions, green onions, bok choy, small pineapple, sweet potatoes, small Thai watermelon, grape tomatoes, green beans and lettuce. You better like lettuce since every bag contains lettuce that is about half the bag!! Unfortunately you cannot choose the items in your bag, so you might end up with items that you don't like or want. In general most of the items looked reasonably fresh. The problem with the service is that there is no quality control. In our last bag, they were two onions and both were completely rotten. I can't imagine the person who put them in the bag didn't notice that they were rotten. There is no consistency when it comes to the quality of the produce. Also considering that the bag is pricey for what you get, so you would expect that all the items in the bag were of usable quality. Needless to say after getting some rotten items, we canceled our service.

You need to buy 6 and we just made it! They didn't have the apple pastry we usually get but because of that we got to try the peanut banana cream roll which was delish! Not too sweet, with apple banana and creamy peanut goodness in the center. On the Miopastalogy side, we ordered: 1) The Special: Salmon ikura cream pasta- a beautifully cooked fetucine- "light on the cream" which made for a nicely coated but not too creamy white sauce with salmon flakes, mushrooms, spinach, capers and a dollop of ikura. Mom and aunty loved this. 2) Shoyu butter pasta- their most popular pasta also el dente, a light shoyu with bacon, mushrooms, spinach, katsuo bushi, and a pad of butter, sprinkled with nori and chili flakes over spaghetti. I really liked the flavor on this. On the Dell's Kitchen side we got: 1) Kurobuta katsu- good quality pork with a crispy breading on a delicious Japanese curry with 2 scoops rice 2)Miso salmon - attractively plated with fresh ingredients Both came with potato salad and a cabbage salad tossed with a yummy creamy sesame dressing. I got the Dammann iced tea which was unsweetened and refreshing and hit the spot. Anunexpected bonus was the $10 off we received off each bill for having spent $100 on prior visits! My daughters look forward to enjoying his pasta AND he manages to give them some special attention even when there's a crowd waiting. Don't go hungry because there is always a wait while The Pasta Guy works his magic. The wait can be as short as 15 minutes (usually bad weather) and as long as 1.5 hours. Everything is made to order. I always place my order and then spend an hour running errands, shopping at the other vendor booths, or entertaining my kids by visiting all of the fish that live in the ponds around the stadium. For people who complain about the long wait, just go somewhere else. We return regularly because this Brooklyn girl needs her pasta fix and I have yet to find a decent Italian restaurant in this state. The pasta is the perfect texture, the sauce is always flavorful, and we always get two meals out of one order because the chef is very generous with the portions. Payment is cash only and Chef relies on the honor system. When your order is up, slip the cash payment (plus tip if you feel inclined) into the cash box. If you're looking for authentic Italian pasta, this is it. You can even eat the pasta al fresco when the weather is nice!

The inside of the market is clean and well kept. The atmosphere is always lively and there are plenty of seats to sit after purchasing food. The hot bar has a wide variety of foods and a salad bar that offers a little of everything for everyone. I did not get to try anything from the hot bar but my parents and sister for the most part really liked what they got. The hot and cold bar is priced by weight. The rotisserie chicken is pretty dry in my opinion. For the price, (about $7 to $8 I believe), it was a disappointment compared to Costco. The poke bar was definitely the biggest hit. After grabbing a number and waiting to be called, my sister and I decided to get two 1 pound containers of tuna and a half pound of a little beef item. The workers behind the counter were helpful and kind. They made really good suggestions. I would definitely recommend this market to grab food before heading to the nearby beach! Loved this market :)

Perfectly cooked. Decently portioned for a starter, and the breading on this. So good. It wasn't salty nor chewy. You can tell that the chefs really do take their time cooking it. We debated about ordering another. We also ordered a salad with the yuzu foam. It was refreshing. I typically prefer my salads to have a little more dressing, but this was really good. There were a lot of veggies in it. I ordered the rigatoni cacio e pepe. Loved that it was served tableside and appreciated the story behind the cheese. The server took his time cooking it and ensured the flavor was to my liking. We made a 5:30 reservation, so it wasn't busy at this time but it did get busy later. However, the ambiance is still chill and not too formal.

Italian food, cheese wheels, fire... What more could a woman ask for? Oh! And an espresso martini. We love a good espresso martini. What I ate: Bagna Cauda ($25 - Fresh vegetable crudités with a warm anchovy garlic dip): I had heard Randy S. had gotten this crudités and it was served in a pot so naturally, I wanted it too. I'm glad my gal pal shared with me as the two others at the table passed. It was interesting. The warm anchovy garlic dip made for a nice salty bite with otherwise fresh vegetables. It was enjoyable but I'm not sure I'd recommend it. Insalata Caprese ($27 - Locally grown tomatoes, mozzarella di bufala, petite basil): I should have listened to Rod U.'s review and passed on these. It's not that it was bad but it's classic and meager for a $27 price tag. Carpaccio di Salmone ($28 - Thinly sliced salmon, fennel, blood orange, sour cream, red onions): A perfect, refreshing, and bright bite of thinly sliced salmon. Rigatoni alla Gricia ($38 - Classic roman dish with guanciale, pecorino romano, parmigiano reggiano, toasted black peppercorn and rigatoni prepared tableside in our imported pecorino romano cheese wheel): As much as I wanted the Spaghetti ai Ricci di Mare, I really wanted pasta served from a cheese wheel. Set ablaze by Everclear, this is prepared tableside. It was amazing although I must admit I was expecting more cheese sauce after watching this prepared tableside. Espresso Martini ($19 - Grey Goose vodka, kahlua liquor, house made syrup, illy espresso coffee): Smooth, balanced, and thoroughly enjoyed throughout my meal. Torta al Cioccolato ($18 - Flourless chocolate almond cake, pistachio sauce, vanilla whipped cream): I paired this with a decaf illy Americano and it was perfection. The flourless chocolate almond cake itself was rich but not overly sweet. The vanilla whipped cream supplied all the sweetness if that's what you're looking for. It was a great dessert. And since it was my birthday, they offered an amazing and gorgeous soufflé and sponge cake dessert with a beautiful blown sugar casing that you are encouraged to break. I was so mesmerized that I didn't even blush at the singing. Johntin was our server on the evening of Easter and he's the greatest.
