UPDATE: I'm updating my original one-star review to five stars. Our first visit was unfortunately a mess. Service on the rooftop was extremely slow, several menu items were unavailable, our order was incorrect, and the overall experience fell far short of expectations. To their credit, management reached out, listened to the feedback, and invited our group back to give them another chance. I'm very glad we did. This time we dined in the downstairs dining room, which has a beautiful moody-chic library atmosphere that immediately sets the tone for a great meal. Our server, Sophie, was friendly, attentive, efficient, and everything service should be. The cocktails were all scrumptious and served in beautiful glassware. We started with the short rib and mac-and-cheese egg rolls, which were delicious. For entrees, our group ordered the Greek grain bowl, shrimp and grits, banh mi, Cobb salad, and Caesar salad. The Greek grain bowl was enormous--I gave it my best effort and still took home nearly a third of it. More importantly, every dish was excellent. No notes to give. Everything was top-notch. What impressed me most wasn't that the restaurant had a bad night the first time around. Every restaurant can have an off day. What impressed me was how seriously the feedback was taken and how dramatically different the second experience was. Manager Charlie Illes stopped by our table during the visit and played a major role in turning things around for us. The difference between our first and second visits was night and day. Harry's earned this revised review through accountability, hospitality, and execution. I'll absolutely be back based on this experience.

Usually really like this place but going on a Tuesday was not as much fun. There were not any specials and while service was friendly it was kinda slow- we were upstairs so not sure if that was part of the problem or that they had another event going on. Parking is always a challenge here but on a nice summer evening the walk is not too For cocktails we got a watermelon basil margarita and an upper east side. I really enjoyed the margarita but not sure I tasted much watermelon . No complaints about the upper east side- a solid bourbon drink. We always get the shrimp oreganata for an appetizer and it was very good, but the bread did not seem very fresh and there was certainly not enough of it. We were told we would get more, but we never got it. I did enjoy my apricot spinach salad with salmon, but my husband and my friend weren't super impressed with garlic and thyme, butter salmon. Just not enough flavor.

Love, delicious food, great ambiance, incredibly kind staff! Kelsey took great care of us :) Can't go wrong!! Their happy hour deal is amazing, too.

Fried chicken sandwich with garlic mashed potatoes (substitution)

We arrived around 8 o'clock on a Thursday to a daunting parking situation. At least three people were double parked out front. We had to find a space around the block. Walking in the front door to a welcoming entryway was a nice surprise. The host had gone home already, so we walked in and were seated by a warm and kind bartender. Our server, Clare, came over immediately after and gave us the rundown. No sour beers here either. We looked over the curated menu, and chose a few appetizers, the burrata and the egg rolls. For an entree my partner ordered the fried chicken sandwich, and I chose the pomegranate glazed pork belly. The place settings and restaurant decor were modern and aesthetically pleasing. The paintings and pictures were well placed. I especially liked the one with Truman and the alien, Ebi. The books and book shelves were a nice touch; I thought Harry's would be a nice place to relax on a weekday and enjoy a new read. The food came: the burrata on toast topped with a balsamic glaze and peaches was scrumptious as were the mac and cheese and beef egg rolls. The dips, a sweet BBQ sauce and a spicy mustard aoli, both worked their magic. My partner's fried chicken sandwich was massive. She enjoyed half that night and half the next night for leftovers. The garlic mashed potatoes were exquisitely prepared. The pork belly was a poor choice in my opinion; half of the pork belly was fat that I had to painstakingly remove, and it seemed overcooked. Though, maybe that was the intent, to crisp the bottom. The food tasted fantastic once I did all the prep work to get to it, but the butter knife made cutting through the pork and the broccolini challenging. The broccolini was more sour than I would have liked, probably prepared with lemon, and the garlic mashed potatoes again, with the pomegranate seeds, were the clear winner. It indeed felt like we got the dregs from the kitchen, which is strange considering we arrived well before closing time. Our appetizers and entrees came out at the same time. Everything felt thrown together, even though it was played well and the food tasted top tier. It really seemed like the kitchen staff was ready to go home. All things considered, I recommend Harry's. The food was incredible, the staff were kind and accommodating, just arrive before 8PM if you want a better culinary experience.

First things first... a heads up for anyone booking here: this venue has three floors and the experience on each one is very different. I made the assumption that the hip hop karaoke sing-along was available across all three levels, but when we arrived, we were seated on the rooftop, which didn't have it. So just make sure when you're reserving your spot that you're selecting the right level for the experience you're actually looking for. Rooftop brunch was nice and while it was a pretty spring day in the high sixties, I can only imagine how nice it must feel up there in the summer. As for the food: My brunch date went with the chicken and waffles, and the chicken was the standout. The waffle held its own, and we were a big fan of the hot honey that came with it. I ordered the platter, which came with Cajun-seasoned potatoes, scrambled eggs, and bacon. Everything was good. The place is a vibe with its cool staff and good music.

We originally thought we had signed up for the sing-along downstairs, but unfortunately we hadn't, so we ended up sitting on the rooftop instead. It was actually the first day the rooftop was open and we were the first customers. We did ask if we could go downstairs to the sing-along but the waitress told us we couldn't since we hadn't purchased tickets in advance. We stayed on the rooftop and the food was good, and the waitress was fine. One thing we did notice was that several of the staff upstairs were on their phones quite a bit. It wasn't a huge issue, just something we observed. For food, we ordered the chicken & waffles and the harry's skillet. Both were pretty good and we didn't have any complaints about the food.

Random Thursday night the week after significant snow on the area. I'm in town for work and was craving a salmon dinner. This came up as one of a few options close by. I would have skipped this place if the perfect parking spot hadn't come available but the parallel parking gods told me I was meant to give this place a try. (I live in the land of parking lots and I'm not about this life, lol) This place is really cute!! I only saw the main dining area and bar. Decor is retro, quirky, hipster. The lighting is moody but not too dark. The art is kind of historical eccentric. There's a gorgeous picture of Harriet Tubman over one table that I loved. The waitstaff was really sweet (shout out to Sydney for being awesome). I'm a solo dinner table for one when on business and the waitress was attentive without being over bearing. I had the brussel sprouts, appetizer. It was well flavored with a move char/crisp. Cocktail (The Affair) was great, balanced and yummy but not over sweet. I had the salmon dinner that came with mashed potatoes and green beans. Nice crispy skin, seasoned decent, cooked a little more well-done than I prefer but it was cooked to the level my friends would probably request. Potatoes seemed a little over mixed or possibly from instant but not bad. It didn't stop me from eating it all . It's a great date spot and I enjoyed listening to the "first date" couple who got seated next to me. Yep I'm nosy and the tables are close enough that it's not the place for a private convo. Bread Pudding Dessert was standard but yummy. The place exudes a feeling of inclusion and love from the friendly interactions, to the diverse art, to the pride cake dessert. I love that. Overall I'd give the food a solid 4 but with the, service, and ambiance it rounds up to a 5. Live music came in towards the end of my meal. It was really nice. Not too loud.

Went for dinner here during Richmond's restaurant week. Had been to the rooftop and the library for drinks and music in the past, but had never had dinner there. The restaurant week menu was prix fixe and included 3 courses, appetizers, main course and a dessert. The prix fixe menu items were not on the regular menu. We started with the lamb meatballs and mini crab cakes. The meatballs were tender and delicious with a slight hint of spice, nothing overwhelming. The crab cakes were good too and came with a whipped tartar sauce and roe topping. I think they would have been better with more of a dipping sauce style tartar, but they were still good. For the Main course we had the shrimp and grits and the hanger steak and sweat potatoes. Both were excellent. The steaks was perfectly cooked and had a nice chimchurri sauce on it. The sweat potatoes tasted like Christmas dinner and were excellent. The shrimp and grits were great too. The shrimp were grilled and served on top of 3 grit cakes with a spicy Cajun sauce. I was worried that the sauce was going to overpower the food, but it was just right and not terribly spicy. The real star was the CORNBREAD that came with the shrimp! I've never tasted cornbread that delicious before and I'm no neophyte when it comes to CORNBREAD. I've lived in the south for the vast majority of my life and NEVER have I had CORNBREAD that good. It was slightly sweet, moist and each side of the cube of bread was crusty! It was amazing! For dessert, we had the baked peach and ice cream and a sorbet flight with 3 different flavors. Both were good, but the baked peach was the runaway favorite. Service was good and attentive. The decor is strange with lots of AI art on the walls. Had AI Prince Harry with a skull watching me most of the meal and AI Harry Styles over my shoulder We'll definitely be back. Hope next time the CORNBREAD is on the menu!

I've been to Harry's a few times since they opened, and they've all been pretty good experiences. On my most recent visit, the restaurant had been overbooked, so we were given vouchers for a small discount to sit at the bar while we waited for a table to open for our reservation. The drinks were tasty and strong, and the pomegranate harvest salad (added steak) was incredible. The location isn't ideal for driving, but if you can get a rideshare or take the bus, it's definitely a good contender for a fun night out.

We made a reservation to celebrate our anniversary at Harry's! We were excited to try out their happy hour and then take in some of the scenic views on the rooftop! We made a reservation and were told we had to sit at the bar to participate in happy hour. We sat at the bar and we were not greeted. The couple next to us eventually shared their menu and with us.when a bartender finally came over their wasn't a greeting, an apology for the delay or even a basic " welcome in" it was just a very annoyed " know what you want? " we ordered two cocktails. The cocktails were good. The atmosphere was romantic. They have a library vibe. There are books everywhere. As an avid reader I really resonated with the decor. We had to flag the bartender down to pay. He didn't come back to check on us or ask if we wanted more drinks. The ambiance here is great but the lackluster service left us with a bad impression of this place. We didn't understand what the point of making a reservation was if we were going to have to sit at the bar.

Food was amazing - our server Sophie was fabulous and the vibe is FUN!! A little off the beaten path but very worth it. All the flavors were fresh and the salad really stood out as a winner ! Cocktails were ok - too sweet for me, even the non sweet ones but they were amazing and swapped it out for me !!

Like too many restaurants in the Scott's Addition area, this is seafood cooked without finesse and then absolutely brutalized with absurd amounts of palate fatiguing, brash, loud flavors. Every item on the menu endeavors to conceal mediocrity in the quality and handling of the ingredients with explosive, overwhelming additives meant to shock you into submission. Things like black garlic and chili oil, raw garlic, sesame seed oil, and punishing heat are inescapable on the menu, which really says to me loud and clear "we do not understand the appeal of seafood, and might have a fundamental misunderstanding about good food in general." I don't exaggerate when I say these dishes would be improved (setting aside things like inability to properly cook octopus) by scaling back the flavors to 5-10% the loudness level they are currently at, to let the ingredients speak, and to make the dining experience less of a punishing marathon with no relief. I have had much subtler and more skillfully balanced dishes at Indian and Thai restaurants, cuisines known for strong flavor profiles. I'm through listening to these Richmond restaurants trying to excuse simply bad food by claiming "that's the nature of the cuisine." In this case, Lillian claims that dishes characterized by these cacophonous competing flavors is "South American." No it isn't - the person conceptualizing the dishes is just a bad chef who doesn't know what he's doing, and at the prices Lillian charges, that's inexcusable. Drowning every dish in flavors that overwhelm the palate is not a way to respect your ingredients or your diner, and only communicates youth and insecurity. Anyone who's eaten widely and knows their ingredients will rightly feel assaulted and insulted by this overpriced, unskilled fare. To anyone who decides to go anyway: Good luck with the digestive distress, and with the taste that will still be left over in your mouth the next morning, no matter how much you brush your teeth.
