My favorite, the skillet (breakfast) burrito, with a choice of about 15-20 hot sauce choices, is complimented by good coffee. Hash browns are sweet and crispy. Pancakes are large and light. We had the Seafood omelet and Mushroom Swiss scramble. They were both wonderful, made even better by the exceedingly reasonable prices. Once inside, the service was great, their only failing was at the door. They fail to greet you when you enter, so it is unclear what you are supposed to do, but the food is well worth it. Pretty good! Now we had two separate meals, mine was awesome Black Forest ham omelette with toast (one slice served) and fruit subbed for potato was excellent! Service was terrific! They were on top of our coffee, water, etc. But firstly, they greeted us so well even though we were a walk in party of 11-unlike a neighboring establishment! I was sincerely surprised at how quickly they could seat us and that the server was there to get our orders! The food was so good and large servings, but not too much. This was the last restaurant of our visit and we were all looking forward to a filling and tasty breakfast before heading home! So wish we had eaten a light snack before going here rather than leaving room for our last vacation meal! I regret not getting up and leaving after our 1 hour wait and first greeting after being seated for another 20 minute wait. Our server, who unfortunately is also the owner, so this establishment will not change its philosophy on what the customer experience should look like. Everyone in our party is or has been in the industry and have navigated through COVID just as this owner has. Closed doors, loss of hours, loss of wages, and 8 or more hour shifts wearing a mask while doing twice the amount of work trying to hear customers and follow all sanitation standards. We are very aware of the losses and difficulties the hospitality industry has endured. On that note, once the island was in phase 2 we were anxious to have a get away for a special 50th birthday celebration. Fully prepared for social distancing standards and waits. The owner immediately accused our group as too insensitive to even read the many "posted" signs that urged nonessential travel to Orcas island. His most common phrase that he repeated was to just be patient! As we had not even had a chance to prove we were in need of that advice I hope the owner will repeat that mantra to himself daily. I will say that this restaurant is most definitely not essential to meeting your dining needs. The food is not good and tastes especially crappy when you know the owner has the need to take out their frustrations on unsuspecting guests. Take your business elsewhere. Had an incredibly rude experience with a server over Labor Day weekend. I walked into the entryway with my dog, intending to wait there while my friends asked about a table. The server looks at me and immediately begins shaking his head. He comes up and says the dog can't be inside the building or on the patio, even though there is a dog water bowl next to the building well within the patio limits. He begins explaining some state law, as if that's needed, and that there is "only one place" on the island I can dine with a dog. I attended and worked at a camp on the island for eight years, and know for a fact that there is more than one place to eat with a dog outside. He then says that we can join the waitlist and I can tie him near the propane tank outside the patio. Since there is a large table right there and we have a big group, I begin to ask if I'm able to tie him to the outside of the fence next to the table. However, when I looked around from where I was pointing, he was already gone. Didn't even wait for us to answer if we would still like to eat there or not. My dog had barked at a little girl that was leapfrogging toward him in the middle of a restaurant patio two days before. The aunt was very upset, but the child was unharmed, my dog has never bit or harmed anyone, and the parents seemed to think it an appropriate lesson for their kids not to go up to dogs they don't know without asking. The servers were very nice at that restaurant when we immediately asked if we could get our food to go instead after the woman's loud reaction. Either the aunt's word traveled to this server, he's potentially racist (as I'm black and one of the few black women I see on the island), he's just normally this rude, or all three. Looking at other reviews, it seems he's just normally this rude. I understand tensions are high during the pandemic, but there were much better ways to handle the situation if he did not want the dog dining with us. First, he could have stayed to hear our answer as to whether we would actually like a table. We never even spoke a word to him. He just lectured us and left. Secondly, he could have offered us takeout if there was no way we could eat there, but mentioned no such thing. Sure, the food's great, but I don't ever want to go back there. read more

Great meal at a good price! Came here on a breakfast date with my granddaughter, enjoyed some hot cocoa, and she enjoyed the pancakes w/ strawberries while I got stuffed on the bacon/cheese omelette! Came for lunch during a busy summer Saturday, so the 10-minute wait for a table and somewhat slow service was understandable. But casual and relaxed is also Orcas Island's feel; if in a real rush, frankly, The Skillet won't suit that. Ordered the lox and cream cheese omelette ($10), which came with sautéed mushrooms, peppers, onions, potatoes. Generously portioned, fresh ingredients that are made to order (so slow service is forgiven!). Coffee was refilled promptly. Friendly wait staff. It's housed in an older, well-crafted cottage on Prune Alley in Eastsound, fun little strip in this part of the island. I'd definitely grab another bite at The Skillet when on Orcas. read more

Had to leave because of waiter, or host who was not happy we were there... So 3 of us just rode our bikes around orcas island and were trying to find a place to eat. Now, I know the cliche perception that cyclists are jerks walking around in lycra, but I honestly try to respect others on the roads and not prance around with that elitist mentality. We showed up and parked our bikes. The waiter came out and asked us to move our bikes 5 feet from where they were. Weird, but we did with smiles. We then walked into the restaurant and he rushed over and told us we cant walk in the restaurant with those shoes on. Not politely, but in way that he was annoyed with us. (Even though we were wearing shoes with recessed cleats that would not hurt the floor anymore than an high heel). He said he would find us a place outside. We waited outside, and just ended up leaving because we just didn't feel like it was worth it. I understand his concern with our bikes and shoes, but the way he talked to us was pretty degrading and prejudice. read more

Greasy spoon type of breakfast spot right in Eastsound. Good choice for us on a drizzly February morning for breakfast. Coffee was great; I think we both had at least four cups! My husband ordered the Western omelet and I had the Farmers (vegetarian). They remade my husband's omelet when they noticed the cheese hadn't melted upon delivery to our table; solid service. The owner (the guy taking names with braces) is about as rude as can be. We were there on the Friday of the 4th of July and had 5 people. We waiting to be seated for more than 45 minutes. When I inquired as to why he would seat 2 adults and 2 small children at a table for 6 people he became extremely rude. Said that he's been doing this for 4 years and if I wanted to discuss his seating business practices after work he would be glad too. Well we all agreed to simply walk across the street for breakfast and enjoy a restaurant who was more than happy to accommodate 5 people immediately and treat us like we mattered. We are a retired couple visiting Orcas Islands for a couple of days in August 2014. Today we went to Island Skillet for lunch were basically turned away! We went there at 1:40pm, and saw available seating. When we requested the table for two of us for lunch, the host advised us no seating was available, they close at 2pm for lunch and basically turned us away. He was not hospitable and it was no service and no smile. We were shocked and disappointed with this experience in what is otherwise a wonderful and beautiful island.
