Every time I visit Thais restaurant I am blown away by the taste and service. Great for brunch with friends!

Another review for this restaurant remarks that we could all use a little kindness during these crazy times, I absolutely agree and as such make a conscious effort to be patient and kind about wait times and chaos during my dining experiences. I traveled in a small family group to Orcas Island to celebrate a birthday, most everyone on the island was lovely and we planned on enjoying our last morning at Island Skillet before heading home. We waited about an hour to be seated, no problem. The whole restaurant was being manned by only 2 servers so some delays were to be expected. We sat at our table with smiles on our faces, only to be greeted by our server (who happens to be the owner) who introduced himself by informing us that non essential travel was not at all welcome on Orcas Island and everyone has been ignoring "all the signs posted saying that you shouldn't be coming here." A bit taken aback we responded we didn't see any of those signs and he replied "everyone just zooms past the signs so fast they can't even read them." He just kept telling us we needed to be patient which was annoying since we hadn't been anything other than patient the entire time. The food was sub par, the service made me see red, and the entire experience cast a shadow on the end of our trip. For the record, we looked it up that day and the travel bureau of Orcas Island DOES welcome non essential travelers (at this time, mid October 2020). As an avid supporter of small businesses I felt obligated to stay and enjoy breakfast but I wish I had walked out after the owner was so rude. Take your business to Brown Bear Baking instead, just down the road with delicious food and lovely staff. I wish I could give Island Skillet zero stars. read more

We attempted to eat breakfast here today. Adhering to the signs, we waited to be seated. The staff moving around us refused to make eye contact or greet us in any way. Finally a sullen man, presumably the host, walked up to us and asked "can I help you with something?" "We'd like to eat breakfast" I replied. "You'll have to be more specific," he answered. We were dumbfounded. After a long pause he added, "do you want to be added to the waiting list to be seated or do you want takeout?" I then asked if there was a long wait. "No, he answered, "about 10 minutes." All of this was offered in a dismissive and very unfriendly manner. We took our business elsewhere. read more

Super wonderful place! Food is always good and exactly what I need to have a good day! The burritos are magnificent

My wife and I ate breakfast here and loved it. She had the eggs Benedict. The ham was of very high quality with a good smoky flavor. The hollandaise sauce had a slight spiciness to it that was a good compliment to the richness of the dish. I had the Western omelet. I loved it because it had just enough cheese to give a rich flavor to every bite of the omelet. We each had hash browns with our breakfasts and they were superb. They were crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. Portions were so large that I wasn't hungry for lunch until late afternoon. The food was good. The service was slow. Only two people working the whole floor but they appeared to be working hard. Another review listed home fries, which I didn't know before ordering, I wish they had been offered instead of the hash browns which were only so so. I like really crispy hash browns and most of it was just soft cooked shredded potatoes. Plus I asked for mozzarella cheese instead of feta and was told they only have cheddar, Swiss, and pepper jack. I asked for light cheese and definitely got regular. I'm that weird person that doesn't love cheese. It was a good breakfast but not the best I've ever had. Nearly everything else for hot breakfast was closed, as it off season, except the quinoa bowl place and we are more meat and potato folks. The space was decorated with Seahawks everything interspersed with local island art. The wait staff were all dudes with big smiles, funny t-shirts, and prompt service. My eggs bennie had a kick, two shakes of hot sauce I stead of one. My boyfriends breakfast burrito with beans and chorizo was tasty. Both dishes were filling, hot and served with a smile. My daughter and I had lunch here on our first day on Orcas Island. The prices are great, service is friendly and it's super cute and bright inside. I ordered the homemade mac n cheese which was good but was only luke warm. I know it would have been excellent served piping hot. It's sprinkled with bacon and extra cheese! We were happy to wait (only ten minutes) in this pleasant room with big windows overlooking what little action there is in Eastsound. Happy because the wait was a sign of Island Skillet's popularity. This location has seen many restaurants over the years but this incarnation seems to be going for something the Island lacks, a good, homey and relatively inexpensive place to eat breakfast or lunch. They are open seven days a week, the servers are friendly and the coffee free flowing. We both had omelets, a shrimp/avocado and a Western, served with hash browns, as they ran out of home fries, and toast. The Island Skillet was a great discovery for us on a chilly January morning when we were searching for breakfast in a town that is mostly closed for the winter. Though it was cold outside, inside the Skillet, all was warm and friendly. Over the course of a five-day visit, we had several very good breakfasts and lunches, all of which were served up by a fine staff consisting primarily of the owners' and their families. The Skillet, aside from the good food and cheery staff, has the great virtue of being open for breakfast and lunch every day of the week, and that's a rare treat here. read more

We were taken to Island Skillet by some local friends we were visiting. They told us it was one of their favorite breakfast spots and, after eating there, it was easy to see why. Service is important to me. Without good service, the best meal ends up tasting like sawdust to me. Here, our wait time was manageable, even with the island packed for a hippie music jam fest. Our server was prompt, efficient, and nice. Our meal was ordered and served without any issues (always a challenge because, as my husband likes to point out, nobody orders a meal with more caveats that I). And our server kept all drinks refilled. Oh, and crayons for the kids. You can choose to sit inside or on the cute little wood patio area. If you choose the patio area, you can have your dog with you. As for the meal, all you need to know is that they don't overcook their eggs. Is there anything worse than rubbery scrambled eggs? Well, maybe scrambled eggs that have a brown crust. But you have no cause to worry here...your eggs will be perfect, how ever you order them. The bacon is thick and crispy. And they have potatoes at least two ways, home fries style and shredded hash brown style. Both are good. The orange juice tastes fresh squeezed. (I'd love to know the brand they use because it is good.) And, lastly, the price for the meal is decent. Price can be an issue on an island because you are a captive audience. This review is based mostly on Service, which to say the least, was bad! Our waitress never came to ask how our breakfast was or if we needed anything else. She just simply stopped to pick up our plates and drop our bill at the same time. We finally gave up after asking 2 different people for some creamer for our coffees, and never getting any..... The food was ok. I ordered Sourdough toast which was a thin slice of untoasted bread. My husbands pancakes were flat and flavorless. This was our first time here and based on this experience, we will not return. read more

Uninspired inside and out. Food was mediocre at best- pea and vegetable soup was watery and the salad small. The Seahawks paraphernalia painted in the window should ha e been a tip. Orcas Island is a favorite haunt and I am glad I found Island Skillet as it's nice to come here for brunch or lunch. It has a pretty large menu with breakfast items and sandwiches and salads. This is a sunny little place with some outdoor seating and if you come right after 11 AM on a weekend, expect some wait as it seems to be popular with families and even locals. It took about 20 minutes for us to get seated when we visited right around noon. Our server was quick though and we did not have to wait too long for the food. I tried the Chorizo Scramble Skillet that came with a side of hashbrowns and toast. My daughter tried the Burrito. Both were wholesome and delicious and all ingredients were fresh. Since it's reasonably priced and a nice little place for brunch on the island I give it 4 stars, if it was in some place like Ballard it would probably get 3 stars as there is a lot of competing businesses out there. We will definitely stop by for brunch again on our next visit to Orcas island. read more

Perfect sandwich...so perfect that both me and the bf got exactly the same order! Turkey, bacon, avocado where they grill the bread in probably gobs of butter and then also put gobs of mayo on the sandwich. It really hit the spot. Sorry everyone but, I didn't think to take a picture of my Eggs Benedict. The oval plate was full and the ham was thick. The hash browns were crispy through and through not just the outsides like most places. The staff were efficient and friendly. Great prices. Delicious, simple home cooking. This week, friends and I ate at 4 local restaurants on Orcus Island. Of them, Island Skillet was my favorite. I ordered the basic breakfast with a side of meat which included bacon, ham, and sausage. Nothing fancy, but it was good and hit the spot. Service was friendly and we enjoyed our time. Will go again when we come back next year. read more

Slow service even though the restaurant wasn't full. Food was pretty poor. I think of Island Skillet like the diners I would go to in college after a drunk night. Greasy, low quality, and cheap. The only difference is that diners usually do it better. I ordered bacon+eggs+potatoes. Their potatoes were covered in grease, but they weren't cooked!! Don't you hate biting into hard potatoes? The Sysco Food Systems truck outside unloading boxes of premade, precut, prepared everything to provide that standardized quality of synthetic processed comfort lets you know this is the place. Well it seems the Island Skillet is the only place on Orcas Island to offer such quick, classic, comforts a la Sysco. I've been there a few times and it has all but one time afforded me my expectations. However, our last trip there solidified the fact that it is truly a low end pre-made joint....Oh, the boxes of pre-mixed eggs! We both ordered Eggs Benny...I got mine with ham...my fellow diner with bacon....mine came out piping hot with over-poached eggs. Hers came out on the low end of luke-warm, also with over-poached eggs. As I greedily gobbled my inorganic plate down she poked at hers...Looked at mine and asked, "Is yours hot?" "Yes, is yours?"...I replied already knowing the answer. She flagged down the waiter. "Excuse me, my plate is cold." She said. "Ok, no problem." He picked up her plate without an apology and headed straight to the microwave to imbue the poached eggs with that rubbery quality only a microwave can impart upon a sad egg. He returned. Put the steaming plate before her. Nothing like a star hot microwaved Eggs- Benny to not ask for a to-go box. The one thing that is outstanding about Island Skillet is a rack of assorted hot sauces ranging from locally made to Tabasco! Which, now thinking about it, it makes complete sense to offer low grade food with a massive hot sauce selection. Here's to using their heads for more than a hat rack! Island Skillet is open for breakfast and lunch and is a great place to get a meal. We went on Friday morning in the summer when the island is pretty busy. It was busy but we were seated and served quickly. The staff was very nice and attentive. We got a ham and egg omelette (HUGE) and the Eggs Benedict and both dishes were really good. My only suggestion would be for them to upgrade their coffee (but I'm a coffee snob, lol) and maybe even offer espresso I drinks. We'll definitely be back! read more

Gluten free options. My husband and I had breakfast here on a Thursday. They were busy! Service was good. I had smoked salmon omelet... Oh my! Delish!!! Unfortunately, their home potatoes are NOT gluten free but they gave an option of a fruit bowl with no extra charge and the fruit was fresh! They did have gluten free bread. This place is pretty gross :( I got a chorizo breakfast burrito and they didn't drain the chorizo?? I legit had grease EVERYWHERE. My napkin was soaked in nasty orange grease after I ate about half the burrito. I couldn't eat the rest of it, which is really saying something for me lol. Thank goodness it was only like $7 though. Wait staff wasn't very friendly either. Pretty apathetic and I didn't want to fight them about the crappy quality of their burrito cause we had some hiking to get to! Boyfriend's french toast was okay, ham was meh, and hash browns should have been cooked more. Definitely go to Brown Bear baking a block or two down for breakfast!! Cute simple cafe offering a decent variety of brunch entrees. We were seated within 15 minutes on a weekend morning. Service was quick, but not too attentive and we really had to flag down someone to get assistance. Had their shrimp & avocado omelette (tomatoes, cream cheese, hash brown, toast) 9.99$ and western omelette (ham, mushrooms, onions, bell pepper, cheddar & jack cheese, pico de gallo, sour cream, hash browns, toast) 9.25$. Everything was incredibly fresh and light here. The shrimp was a bit more seafoody than usual and the hash browns lightly browned. The ingredients in the omelettes are roughly cut with some big chunks we had to chop again ourselves, which is something I've never had to do.
