Yum. Yum. Tried the korean chicken and chicken katsu combo plate that came with rice and salad (or you can get macaroni salad). I'm not really a fan of macaroni salad but theirs was good. Pretty good spot! Very quiet during the mornings in the week. I ordered the Waimea omelette and my friend got the breakfast sandwich. She absolutely loved it, mine was pretty good. This review is for their breakfast menu. We came here on a Sunday morning recently after looking at their menu online and reading other great yelp reviews. We were especially excited about the "island style crepes" that we saw. The crepes were both cold, extremely thin, and not tasty at all. I would give a negative star if I could! I have gone to this establishment in the past and usually have had good experiences until today! My daughter and I both ordered the Loco Moco, traditional & kalua pork. Since having that meal this morning, we became extremely ill with bowel and stomach problems! We were the only ones that had anything with the brown gravy and we are pretty sure that was the culprit!! I won't be coming back here again with my family and advise customers to be weary of the gravy here!!! Finally, a place in San Diego (well, technically Tierrasanta) that serves Loco Moco the way I like it - fried rice with spam/ham, sweet onion, a spicy patty, and eggs over medium. The brown gravy for the Loco Moco was perfect. Will ask for it without the crepe on the bottom next time, but that was good too. Mac salad was outstanding (potatoes, mac, and tuna), not to salty, not too sweet, and super-creamy. We went for breakfast on a Saturday around 9am and had no problem parking and getting a good table. (We hate the super-trendy weekend breakfast places with difficult parking and an hour wait.) The place was sparkling clean and the servers had the spirit of aloha. Great food but got the absolute worst service ever. I was so excited to make my first trip here because my family knows their family and have catered their food at many luaus. Decided to order food to go because my two year old was getting ancy and I wanted to respect the three other tables in the place. The waitress offered me water while I waited but never brought it. No big deal. The food came out fast and I opened it up and started feeding my daughter and eating because I was starving and trying to keep my baby happy. I was happy, my baby was happy and then this lady decides to ruin my day by coming to my table and telling me that because I ordered to go I wasn't allowed to eat my food in the restaurant. Such a disgraceful way to treat a paying customer, a new one at that. I was not only embarrassed, but almost sad that as a new and happy customer I was being treated so poorly. If they were jam packed and needed the table I could understand but there were only three other tables in the place. Definitely didn't feel like true Aloha spirit on there. :(:( Me and Malia took our food and ate in the parking lot because although she tried to backtrack, the damage, embarrassment and ruined lunch was done. If only she had known that stopping there was the highlight of my day and she crapped all over it. Just got your response and Yoda said it best when he said "do or do not, there is no try". Not only did you try to quote scripture and not live by it to the least of them (your take out customers) you were really snappy to your waitress that was working hard for you. For as much of that catchphrase Hawaiian jargon they spew out about treating customers like friends and family, the actual experience of attempting to dine at this pathetic establishment could not have been further from that hallmark card BS ideal. The woman I presume to be the manager would not allow us to sit down and get a drink while waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. We are talking about a total of four people altogether. Apparently it was too busy; but the dining room wasn't even close to half full.... The food tasted as if they got takeaway from L&L and let it sit in the sun for several days. Love the food! Best Hawaiian food in San Diego. However, stopped in this afternoon for a quick bite after the football game. We arrived around 2:20, and they close at 3. This is a family owned and operated restaurant, and I understand the desire to go home after a day's work. I'm just very disappointed that the Aloha hospitality seems to shut down around 2pm on a Sunday as we were not able to sit down for a nice meal and were only offered take-out. Again, extremely disappointed. We are having a sit-down meal at a competitor establishment across town instead. :( read more

The food here is bomb!!! Of all the Hawaiian places I've tried, this definitely has the best food. Amazing portions. Can't speak much for the service though. I also wish they could stay open later. OMG. What a great find, especially if you're hankering after a loco moco or Spam musubi. Huge portions-- two people could easily split a Kaloko Moco, if you're inclined to share. My son gave high praise to the musubi, which isn't actually on the menu, so ask if they have them. My daughter went for the breakfast combo, and thankfully chose the potatoes so I could try them. Mmmm. She also wanted her eggs poached, which arrived perfectly cooked and beautiful in a little cup. The Kaloko Moco was divine. It must truly be the most bad-for-you food in the universe, but you know, sometimes you don't care 'bout dat. Love the family-operated atmosphere and friendly service. The food was 5 stars. Service was zero. Has breakfast here with my roommate. I got the pork chop which was amazing even though my request for extra crispy mushrooms was not fulfilled. It was still filling had a nice crunch on the outside and the over easy eggs coated my rice and chop perfectly. However the service left a lot to desire. We didn't get our servers name but he didn't check on us until our food was finished, not attentive, took my plate while I was still eating had to grab my last piece of food from the plate before he took off, ordered soda water and he charged for that (as many restaurants as I've managed I know that there is no cost for soda water from the machine) brought our check before asking if we wanted anything else so could have gotten a dessert sale or a few snacks for the road I noticed in the corner since I still had a little room but that's the restaurants loss. We shared the loco moco (subbed hamburger for spam--hubby wasn't feeling it for burger in the morning) and a pineapple crepe. All very tasty. Liked the loco moco even more than the one we had in Lahaina. The crepe was delicious. I'm not a whipped creme fan but whatever they use to make their topping is Delish. It even smells yummy. My almost 2 year old enjoyed the POG. I wish they had portuguese sausage. I know it's expensive--I've had it shipped from HI myself--but I'd pay a few extra bucks to get it. While my roommates settled on the usual BBQ meats, I decided to try their special Kahlua pulled pork quesadilla. The pork was very tender and flavorful and I actually enjoyed a strange combination of pork, sour cream, and salsa in a flour tortilla. I also enjoyed trying some of the other BBQ meats like the chicken, short-ribs, and the sides. The waitress failed to mention that I could have added unlimited fries and a drink for a dollar more. On a trip to SD 2 weekends ago I visited this place for Breakfast...was so good I had to come back for lunch (not in the same day lol)! I'm originally from Hawaii, and I can say that this is some mean authentic local food! Anytime I'm in SD I'll be sure to visit again. Quick Thoughts: Good quality food, great service, Authentic atmosphere and feel. Holy moly. Don't tell my gf, but we didn't really go to SD to go to Sea World...we came to eat some ONO Hawaiian food! I had the kaloko moco, and the chicken katsu/bbq chicken mixed plate, both were good, if not better, than food back home. First, there was a crepe under the loco moco (loco moco is usually rice, topped with hamburger steak with egg on top covered in gravy)! This blew my mind. Straight up, how can you put a crepe, something that's known to be sweet, under the salty, gravy-filled goodness of a loco moco? The answer...WHO CARES?! It was awesome, and the subtle sweetness of the crepe perfectly complemented the saltiness of the meat, gravy and fried rice. The bbq chicken in the mixed plate tasted like a homemade sauce, something your uncle would cook on the bbq on a day at the beach. I talked to Terri (the owner) and found out she's from the Big Island and moved up to SD recently...no wonder it reminds me so much of home! This made my weekend in SD that much better, and if you love breakfast like I do, indulge in the kaloko moco. Make sure you save room for their crepes as well, as those are out of this world (the banana one was really good). Make sure you have a designated driver, because this meal will put you to sleep!
