I went with the Paniolo chicken and it came with three chicken breasts! Which I wasn't mad at since it was so good. The mac salad is classic and simple - exactly as it should be. My buddy had the Broke da Mouth prawns which is a great name considering how much buttery goodness they pack into those little guys. The chef/owner is the real deal and so friendly. I've been to the Heist multiple times but this was my first time Island Style Grill. The truck appeared in excellent condition with no obvious issues. The gentleman in the truck was very helpful, friendly and passionate about his food. I ordered the Mochiko Chicken, Kalua Pork and Kalbi ribs which was their special. I'm told it will take about 15 minutes and given a beeper. I wait in the covered table area that has multiple heaters set up to accommodate for the cold weather. This space has many tables that are cleaned regularly. The beeper goes off, I get my food and head home. The Mochiko Chicken is crisp on the outside and super moist and juicy on the inside. The sauce adds a great flavor to the dish. The Kalua Pork is exactly what I hoped for - tender and flavorful. The Kalbi ribs were spectacular! Cooked medium rare, so tender and flavorful I could eat these all day. Absolutely incredible! The macaroni salad was really good and rice done well. Island Style Mochiko Chicken (#1 fave!): Crispy, but moist inside, with a sweet sesame sauce that you'll die for. Pake Style Wok Seared Pork: tons of flavor. I prefer it to the Kalua Pork Hawaiian Puaa, both for the flavor and the texture. Prawns "Broke da Mouth Sake Glazed": a lot like classic shrimp scampi, *perfectly* cooked, with plenty of sauce. SO flavorful, but not as filling, if you're hungry. The Chicken Katsu was perfectly cooked, with an excellent breading that was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside--and it's a decent portion of chicken as well. The dipping sauce was a pleasant surprise: I assumed it would be a more classic teriyaki style sauce--and it KIND OF is, but it's actually more complex, with some piquancy, and flavors that I can't pin down. Respect. The sides are perfectly conceived to go with every dish. You'll be really grateful for both the exceptional mac salad (umami bomb!), as well as the rice served two ways: under the meat (to absorb the sauces and spices), and on the side (dusted with what appears to be a furikake-style seasoning--or maybe that changes, depending on the dish). These are friendly people with an excellent product. Give them your business. ONE THING THOUGH: they're often closed from 3-4:30ish, even on the weekend, with a 'we'll be back soon' sign. Right off the bat before even having food, the owner is very friendly and obviously passionate about his food. He offered samples and honest critiques as to why he'd be a better suggestion than his competitors -- he even recommended others. We got samples prior to ordering, and after they tracked us down and made sure we got a sample of his Kimchi (which is fire by the way). Now to the food -- Those prawns are amazing. That butter sauce is some serious melt in your mouth glory. The Korean chicken was just as good, rice was perfectly cooked (not soggy or crunchy) and the Mac is bomb. Straight to the point and no extra bs (as Mac salad should be). Overall, food plus experience is definitely 5 star worthy. My only regret is that I didn't get a full plate of prawns. Matt's bbq truck and island style Grill are my 2 favorite food trucks in the metro areas Chef Steven's dish alone is taking names. The reason this chicken is different from others. Everything is good. It's fresh and you can tell and taste it in every bite. I often travel to Japan and this is right up at the top. Nevertheless one of the most important thing I can say about This eatery... that after I eat here, I actually feel really good and feel even better the next day.
