I'm not in this area very often. I had 2 hours to kill waiting on a delivery I needed to pick up around the corner, and saw La Sen. I've been in the mood for salad rolls. I went to a Vietnamese restaurant the previous night and didn't fulfill my fresh salad roll craving. So that's exactly what I thought I would do for dinner this night as I waited to do my pickup. First off, I was greeted very warmly. The woman was super friendly. I was the first of many for supper rush. She greeted everyone that came in super friendly, like everyone was a friend! I ordered fresh salad rolls with tofu. I didn't care for the texture of the tofu, so if I were to come back in, I would order without protein. The rest of the salad rolls tasted fresh and with peanut sauce was yummy! I also got the tropical iced tea, next time I would omit the lime. I worked on a photo project on my phone while dining. It started getting quite busy and I didn't want to keep taking up space. So I ordered crispy vegetarian spring rolls to go. I sat in my van and started to eat the spring rolls. It didn't taste very good. It was quite greasy and had a burnt flavor. In fact, I couldn't finish them. I ended up tossing them in the trash. La Sen reminded me of the restaurant I went to the previous night. The nice decor and the menu looked very similar. They had very similar menu items, including the eggplant clay pot I ordered the previous night. I wondered if they were related. I didn't see the other restaurant listed. If I find myself in this neck of the woods, I might give it another try with adjustments. read more

I have been going to this restaurant for a while now I say would say it is an overall positive experience. From the ambience to the waitstaff, the overall vibe is nice. The only downside is that although the food is fast, some of the meat is not very good, especially the brisket in the pho. All in all the pho broth is amazing but I would get chicken. I visited La Sen Vietnamese Grill when I was feeling pretty chill following a spa treatment, so I was hoping for some comforting pho to keep the vibe going. This was my first visit, so I really wasn't sure what to expect. First off, their decor is playful and fun. They've done some interesting wall treatments using nón lá leaf hats, but lacquered and pattered repeatedly in a fresh, modern take. The lighting is spot-on, and their usage of natural materials like bamboo and woven basketry helps make the usual strip mall retail space feel warmer and more comforting than usual. The waitstaff were incredibly responsive and prompt during my visit, and my order of pho tai only took about three minutes to dish and serve. However, the presentation of the soup and accompanying garnishes were a little lackluster due to wilted basil and dry lime wedges. And most unfortunately, the delicate balance of flavor pho is known for seemed to be overpowered by the fat and salt content in my order. Great tasting pho broth has a velvety and buttery texture that coats the tongue without being overly greasy, and what I was served today seemed so fat-heavy it overpowered the smell and taste of all the ingredients in the dish. Perhaps I'm being a little too picky, but I'd like to give an accurate description of what I was served. The noodles had the perfect amount of bite, and though I nearly finished the entire bowl, the dish wasn't nearly as satisfying as it usually is for me. I tried one item on an extensive menu, and as I dined alone today, I can't give a fair assessment of the overall quality of the offerings at La Sen Vietnamese Grill. NEAN was our server. She provided excellent service. She was very friendly. She went above and beyond. We sat outside on the patio and she brought out water for the dog. Food was okay. Our only issue was the service. My husband placed our order but the waitress did not write anything down. We ordered two beef pho one lean meat and one combo. A kids beef pho and a bahn mi. Our appetizer was brought out first, then our pho. We were waiting for our bahn mi when the waiter brought a dish to our table and dropped it off as she was passing by. My husband and I looked at each other puzzled. We both asked each other "what is that." Neither knew what dish that was and we called a different waitress that was passing by our table and asked her what dish that was. When she told us what it was we let her know we had not ordered that. She called the gal who took our order and with attitude she leaned over and she got in my husbands face and said "I asked you if pork noodles" my husband was obviously upset over that and stated if it was a misunderstanding fine but the fact that she got in his face really upset us and ruined our experience there. She left and came back with a to go box and states "no worries, I give to you. You can have nice dinner" my husband and I ignored her remarks. No one touched that dish because we had no idea what it was and did not order it. Shortly after she comes by and packs the food for us with attitude and then again says "for lunch tomorrow." When my husband paid she quickly skipped the tip and did not let us see the total so my husband made sure to send a receipt via text message. As we were leaving we found out she is the owner. Sure enough when we checked in the car she had charged us for it. We were really bummed as we had seen good reviews about this place. We didn't let that ruin our day and took the food to give away to a person in need. Ordered delivery and food came warm which is great. Each pho order came with a baggy of bean sprouts, 3 jalapeños, a packet of sriracha and Hoisen sauce. The peppered calamari was quite disappointing - soggy and completely unflavored, it only came with four pieces of calamari. It was inedible and we tossed it after the first bite. The pho itself was good, pretty typical compared to any other pho. Banh mi was mediocre, too much mayo and quite soggy, though the flavor itself was good. I was over charged $3. The woman had troubles understanding me but also was not at all friendly. I showed her the menu price but she just gave me a stern stare. Not a confused look, a super agitated stare. I was already charged so nothing I could do & not worth a fight. The wokked soba noodle I didn't like but my friend chose it & I wouldn't normally order anything with a pineapple soy sauce. I had their lemongrass chicken at the Beaverton location and it was good so that's why I came here. The dish only had 5 shrimp in it. The food here is ok. Nothing special but it wasn't horrible. I would return and eat here again if it weren't for my experience with the bill. We recently had dinner at the Tualatin location and when I went to pay for the bill, we had it split in half between the two families. When she handed me the device to pay, it was on the screen asking for gratuity. I thought the bill seemed a little high, but I also didn't pay attention to the prices on the menu so I just thought they were expensive. Nonetheless, it was obvious that I was caught off guard and I asked to see the receipt. She told me should print it up when we're were done with paying. So I selected the gratuity, signed, and it was paid. After the bill was paid by both families, she printed up the receipt for me, and I glanced it over and realized that the bill already included an18% gratuity. When I told her that I didn't know she already included gratuity, she said sorry, she could not change anything because the cards were charged already. I feel like we were totally taken advantage of because the server could've had the courtesy to let us know that the gratuity was already included. Especially when she noticed we were questioning and adding for a copy of the receipt. The food and service were average at best, until we were slighted with our bill. Definitely not worth the DOUBLE gratuity. I do not recommend going here as there are better Vietnamese Restaurants (so bummed that Non La closed). read more

I realized after we left that I spent $50 on our lunch meals. I don't know why it was so expensive. I didn't even get a receipt to look at to ensure bill was accurate. I come here very often with my family. They had the best pho broth. Clear, flavorful and hearty. I usually get the lean steak pho. For some reason today when I got the pho the broth was cloudy and a bit bland. The thinly sliced lean steak was thick and chewy. Because it was a 17 dollar bowl of pho I ate it anyway. It's a bit disappointing because I love going there to get soup. I hope they get their original pho soup back. The service is always good, and food always comes out quick. read more
