Great food and service, but a disappointing new policy I've been a loyal customer here for years--the food is consistently delicious (especially the classics like lo mein, spare ribs, dumplings, and fried rice), and the staff has always been friendly and quick with service. It's been a reliable go-to spot in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, several months ago they started charging extra for fresh duck sauce, hot mustard, and hot oil sauce. These little condiments used to come complimentary with orders if you asked, just like at most other Chinese restaurants around NYC. Now it feels like a nickel-and-dime tactic that sours the experience, especially when competitors still include them at no extra cost. The quality of the food hasn't changed, but this shift is enough to make me take my business elsewhere unless they bring back the free sauces. Seriously, you're gonna charge me .50 cents each when I spend $100? Not happening. Sad to see after so many good years. read more

Did a lunch special pick up one day from here. The portions are pretty large. Ordered scallion pancakes (got like 8 of them) a plain lo mein and sesame chicken. The food was not extremely great but it was okay. Pork fried rice was banging. This would be 4 star review but even though I did a lunch special my order was $40 for 3x items it felt unbalanced for price and deal. We've been long time customers with Mrs. Lam, the original owner of this place, going on 15years. Food is on the better side for takeout but unfortunately we won't be coming back anymore after a horrible experience with Yuki, the new manager there. This woman is HORRID- terrible attitude, we couldn't hear what she had said the price was and she snapped that we should know the prices by now since we've been customers for so long. She shoved the receipt at us and started screaming saying that if we don't like their prices we should never come back. Well, you don't need to tell us twice because we never will. I'm thinking maybe this place has new owners I understand in Covid times are very tough. I'm trying to support local businesses and we have been ordering from here for years but the last three times fried rice and white rice an overcooked blob of mush. I had to cook my own white rice. Fried rice was not edible either. the chow mein so over cooked and squishy it was like baby food for the third time I know I shouldn't have ordered it a third time but you always think they were having an off night . Food is pretty good and they have some seating indoors. Prices were very fair and just like any of your typical Chinese restaurants there isn't much conversation yet that's why we have Therapist. There's a lot of parking so you won't have an issue getting a spot. read more

Always liked this place but this will be our LAST. Chicken chow fun was tasteless, absolutely nothing but bland noodles. Fried rice had microscopic pieces of pork, NO EGGS, NO VEGETABLES. They are so hideous and cheap. I order delivery for the guys who were working on my house. Since I am doing renovation in the house. There is no utensils for them to use. They did not delivery spoons and forks with the food. How ridiculous?! So we were all sitting down staring at the food... we called them to let them know they didn't include spoons and forks. Instead of telling us they made a mistake... they said we have to ask for it... well this is the only Chinese take out place I know that don't included spoon and forks for delivery. And if they are the only store doing something differently, it would be nice that they ask the customer if they need it or not. So it was my fault that I did not ask for it according to them. This has become our go to Chinese restaurant! Their dumplings are the best I've ever had and so is their chicken with broccoli. We actually purchase a quart of their dumpling sauce and marinate our steak in it at home before grilling. Still wish the prices were a bit lower but that's New York for ya. read more

Customer service is truly unacceptable. I made an order and had to wait 45 min after a long day. I'm sitting down to eat with my girlfriend we found the whole order wrong so we did what any normal person would do call and ask for the manager or the owner. I was told he wasn't there which is fine so I explained what happened hoping they would understand the issue but all I received was attitude and the employee is telling how I didn't ask for that in the first place then when we came to an agreement I was told to go pick up the food myself and after that I was told I have to pay the difference which is 65 cents after waiting another 45 mins hoping they didn't spit in my food. This place was a staple in our home until today. They made a mistake and made our food imporperly and instead of remaking the food to correct their mistake they used the already cooked wrong food and tried to cover it up with additional ingredients, essentially cooking twice. Thats horrible business, not to mention disgusting. They chose losing a customer over losing.$5 worth of food. The lack of respect towards thier customers is unacceptable. While I recognize that this place has decent Chinese food and that's hard to find on this island, I have had multiple bad experiences here. First of all the older Chinese lady has a bad disposition and always treats you as if she is doing you a favor by serving you food. Last night I ordered and asked for delivery @ 545. I was told 45 minutes to an hour. It was a rainy Friday night and they were busy. I said ok no problem. At 710 I called back, I was told they hadn't even made my food yet. I asked for a time frame and specifically stated that I was waiting with three children. They said 30 minutes, I said ok but after that I'm leaving to eat elsewhere and that I would like a refund in that case. At 725 they called me back and said we are about to make your food but we ran out of wontons.....wtf? An hour and forty minutes late, no food is made and you ran out of the most basic staple of Chinese food. I asked to cancel and was told they would try to get me a refund. I wasn't going to be charged for food I didn't eat, after waiting almost two hours, I had to bring three children there in the rain to get a receipt. Then I ate at Misaki sushi next door, had a great and pleasant meal. Great service and really nice employees. If you decide to eat from Islander taste, be ready for a culture of attitude and annoyance from every employee. Except for the young lady who took my order initially.
