If you are looking for that traditional Chinese Food from the local corner Chinese Take-Out Restaurant... with they typical tastes that we come to know as Chinese Cuisine... this is not the place for you. Sure they have the traditional dishes... and some creative new dishes... but everything I have tried there had a twist on the flavors or the way the food was prepped. Initially I was like many reviewers... This is not good chinese food... however... what we become a custom to was in fact not good. Even though this place had bad reviews I still wanted to try this place out for the wings. Which was good for the price. I usually go to Empire East. They are also very good but a bit pricey for just plain fried wings. These two places are my go to spots for plain wings. So to sum it up this place is a hole in the wall Chinese take out place. This place used to be really great but they changed management a couple of years ago and now their food is completely bland. On my most recent trip there, I had their steamed shrimp dumplings and fried rice. To say that the shrimp dumplings were bland would be an understatement. They were soggy and smelled sorta fishy. The fried rice was so greasy I looked like I applied a fresh coat of lip balm. We ordered from China Taste. The food we had didn't even taste like Chinese food. We expected beef with string beans to taste like beef with string beans. This tasted like it was barbecued. Was horrible. And the Pad Thai was not good at all. It was the most horrible plate of food I have had in my life. There were no crushed peanuts, and very, very dry. Since we never ate nor picked up, I can't say much about service, decor, etc. When we drive by, it just looks like a typical take-out place that you wouldn't want to eat-in unless you're in a rush anyway I like the chicken dumplings, 8 piece for 4.95...can't beat that price. Often that is all I need, my husband likes that the Egg Foo Young and the sauce. We usually order a noodle dish such as chow fun, we've also tried the Moo Shu. Some of the dishes have too much soy sauce, but otherwise they're pretty good for take-out food. I'm so sorry I didn't come to Yelp first! This was absolutely the WORST Chinese food I've had in NY! The soup was cold, the fried shrimp - supposedly jumbo, turned out to be pinkie sized shrimp in an enormous 2" x 3" fried batter cover dripping with grease. The napkin they put in it was totally soaked. We finally found the shrimp and threw out the rest. The order was wrong. Beef chow fun turned out to be beef mei fun with a tiny amount of beef. The shrimp are Large and general portions are big, especially the teriyaki sticks, which have a very meaty bite and taste good considering that they aren't drenched in sauce. I like having a few pieces of them with every order because they are a good contrast with a saucy main. They really pushed their quality up after their first debut on staten island. They had the right idea initially but the size of the food items weren't good at first, they seemed to have fixed that issue now. My only issue really is with their fried rice, it's a little bland or taste a bit plain but I'm not complaining because you can just tell that it's a lot healthier than a really well made fried rice dish, although this isn't really much of a setback unless your a fried rice lover because their food is very affordable. Besides their fried rice, their food has definitely gotten better especially considering their overpriced competition that charge as much for an eggroll as these guys charge for a main dish, this alone makes them worth another visit. read more
