excellent sichuan food! we made a reservation and were told we had a 75 min dine-in limit but the food came out really fast. they gave us complimentary free-flow tea and some chilli oil cabbage to start, which was really nice. the menu on an ipad was a bit hard to navigate through -- it wasn't very intuitive that you had to click to view pictures. it was also difficult to jump from one page to another page but food was delicious. we ordered the la zi chicken, mapo tofu, and ran noodles. the la zi chicken had the perfect amount of numbing spice, and the mapo tofu was my favorite. the noodles were also very well balanced. prices are also pretty reasonable, so would highly recommend!

Consider it as must have for Szechuan food when you are in town. Good service and a variety of options in dishes. They are quite authentic and deserves a second visit. The restaurant is clean and welcoming. While we would like to order two other dishes but they're out of stock. Actually quite a few dishes are out of stock that deserve a second visit.

Last time I came I got some more mildly spicy options and thought the food was solid but not that special. This time I dialed up the spice, and it really danced on my tastebuds! For those worried about spice, sichuan peppercorns aren't really that "heat" kind of spice. I'm usually a "mild" spice yet could easily handle these dishes, but to each their own. We got the swing pork belly, mapo tofu, and boiled beef. All were delicious, but the mapo tofu is a must. Last time I got the la zi chicken (a bit dry), and the salted egg corn (interesting and fun to eat but acts more like a snack). Next time I want to try a fish dish.

Szechuan Mountain House is a terrific Szechuan restaurant that churns out copious amounts of delicious food. The service is very efficient. Bring your own wine.

As a Szechuan fan, Mountain House has been on my list since a while and I was super excited for my lunch reservation here. For mains, we got the thin sliced pork belly with cucumbers, and the pepper lover which is diced chicken with mixed chilli peppers. The sliced pork belly with cucumbers is a nice and refreshing starting but it is as unwieldy to eat as it looks aesthetic. I wouldn't recommend the pepper lover even if you are a spice lover, the chillies were extremely spicy and it was hard to pick out the diced chicken in a bowl that was mostly chillies. The drinks and desserts were quite underwhelming and I don't even recall their names. Had high expectations but unfortunately my meal here left me feeling dissatisfied.

Food and ambience are great! We went for vegetarian options and left very satisfied. Emma was our server she was very attentive and helpful.

One of the best Szechuan places in the city. Expect a wait, come early to get on the waitlist and then go walk around or hang out a bar in the EV. Our wait was unexpectedly longer and the host gave all of us free drinks which was super nice of them! We sat in an intimate booth which was super nice. Please bring friends who can handle spice because two of my friends didn't have the best time. Standouts were the green spicy bass and the peppercorn beef.

Heard so many good things and wanted to love Mountain House, but left pretty underwhelmed. Reservations were easy enough to make, and they do not seat you until the party is complete. The interior is very impressive - the decor and ambiance are immaculate and definitely well curated. The food, however, was much less impressive. We ordered the pork belly swing, corn, double cooked pork, la zi chicken, string beans, and water spinach. The pork belly swing looked so unique and fun but tasted bland. The la zi chicken and the water spinach were probably my favorites, but I have had better elsewhere. The service was good - the waiters were attentive and filled our teapot quickly when asked. The food also came out extremely fast. Overall disappointed with the food but my expectations might have just been too high.

Incredible spot! Big shout out to Emma for being such an attentive server. If you enjoy genuine Sichuan food with a delicious kick that still packs a ton of flavor, I highly recommend this restaurant. The menu is expansive, with a lot of vegetarian options as well as flexibility for modifying dishes to be vegetarian. And the interior is so iconic, with a lot of attention placed to crafting a unique space.

Mountain House serves truly authentic Sichuan food in NYC. The spice is numbing and tingly, but still delicate and never overwhelming. Tldr: the desserts are phenomenal, so definitely save room. Walking in felt like stepping into an old Chinese village. The place was packed even on a weekday. Highly recommend making a res! *Swing Pork Belly 晾衣白肉 $15 * One of the most iconic dishes here: pork belly with cucumber, served with a garlicky-spicy dip that hits just right. Must try. *Szechuan Cabbage & Fish 老壇酸菜魚 $33 ** A standout dish. The broth was tangy from the pickled cabbage, with a heat that warmed me up slowly. The black fish was soft and silky, absorbing the sour-spicy flavor. I especially enjoyed the wide glass noodle (寬粉). *Ma-Po Tofu 麻婆豆腐 $16 ** Definitely the spiciest dish on the table. It tingled and numbed my lips, but somehow it was addicting. Ngl it might be the best mapo tofu I've had in NYC. *Golden Corn Kernels 鹹蛋黃焗玉米粒 $18 * So amazed to see each corn kernel coated in salted egg yolk--savory on the outside, sweet and juicy on the inside. I couldn't stop scooping it. *Fried Rice w. Szechuan Pickles & Bacon 泡菜臘肉炒飯 $19 The wok aroma of the fried rice was rushing out when it was served. It was delicious but nothing special -- I might skip this next time. *Stir Fried Cabbage 乾鍋手撕包菜 $17 Simple but done well. It was packed with wok hei, and we were surprised to find pieces of pork in the dish. *Purple Yam Mochi 紫薯水麻薯 $9 ** My favorite dessert here. The mochi was milky with an almost custard-like texture. The purple yam paste was smooth, thick and lightly sweet. *Sweet Drunken Jelly 花田醉冰粉 $9 ** A perfect end to a spice-heavy meal. Light, refreshing, and floral. It was topped with all sorts of crunchy and chewy textures like crushed peanuts, 山楂, mochi balls, and jelly.

Came in on a Sunday night walk in, we didn't have to wait, service was prompt and friendly. 2 of my friends were vegetarian so we kept our orders vegetarian other than the dumplings. They have a handful of vegetarian dishes. We ordered fried rice with szechuan special greens, szechuan style fried noodles, and 2 orders of crispy sizzling tofu. Interior was clean and modern. They gave a small pickled spicy cabbage side which was pretty delicious. Food was overall good the noodles and rice were well seasoned. The tofu was crispy outside soft in the interior with this goopy sauce. We had some hot tea through out the meal and after as well and did not feel rushed.

We had a delicious dinner at Szechuan Mountain House. We got several dishes that I would consider 'standard' Sichuan, that were all quite well done (Chongqing chicken, Mapo Tofu, Sauteed Stringbeans). These were all good versions of these dishes, but nothing revolutionary. The fourth dish we got however was exceptional, the Fish with pickled cabbage. Really delicious flavor with a medium heat and mala flavor, as well as a delicious acidity cutting in from the pickled cabbage (and other crunchy veggies). Service was really solid and pleasant, presentation is 10/10, something Sichuan restaurants often ignore. Vibe was really cool, made to feel like a village without feeling kitchy. Highly recommend!

Some beef tongue dish with stomach lining. Flavors good, but couldn't wrap my mind around eating it.

Return or not return? Maybe. Impeccable service. Polite, attentive, and friendly. Just not my kind of food, but a few highlights. Went with my wife and a friend who knew what order, and he ordered a lot, as in a lot lot. No idea the names of many of the dishes.

Came here with two other friends for dinner and we pigged out. We started off with Scallion Pancake with Shredded Duck ($15), which tasted amazing. The pancake was flaky and not overly soaked in oil, while the duck meat enhanced the taste. I think everything should order this for the table. We also got the Dan Dan Noodles w Minced Pork ($8), which is a staple dish in Sichuan cuisine. Make sure you stir the bowl to mix the sauce and minced pork. For veggies, we got the Sautéed Green Beans With Eggplant ($18), which tasted great. I usually get sautéed pea shoots for a veggie dish, but this was worth ordering as the eggplant tasted great along with the green beans. For entrees, we got the Spicy Green Pepper Fish Filet ($28 for filet). A classic Cantonese dish that comes with bok choy, so it turns out I didn't really need to order a veggie dish. Delicious. We also tried the OOHU Mao Xue Wang ($34), which may be one of the most spiciest dish available on the menu. This dish combines blood curd from a duck, tripe, and chicken gizzards along with other organs into a simmered broth containing chilis and peppercorns. They also use spam, vermicelli noodles, mushroom, and other things. If you're adventurous and you like spicy, I would recommend this. Best eaten with a cup of rice. Service is great as our server made good recommends and was overall friendly. They also have a party room you can book, which sounded pretty affordable. Don't recall what their minimum spend was, but it was super reasonable compared to a lot of other spots in Chinatown and Flushing.

We ordered multiple dishes which came out one after the other. Some of the standouts for me were the Pork Intestine Dry Pot ($20.95), Crispy Tofu with Salty Egg Yolk ($23.95), and Sauteed String Beans ($16.95). Many spicy food options since this is a Szechuan spot afterall. Some dishes were a bit too salty and spicy, which they did discount after we brought it to their attention. Overall, decent spot and good for large groups. Otherwise, I didn't find this spot to be too memorable (not bad, not great).

I really liked the scallion pancake and eggplant. The pancake wasn't crispy/dry, but rather the exterior was crisp and the inside was still a little soft/fluffy. It's the first time I had a scallion pancake that wasn't just straight dough inside/outside, or so thin that it got crisped out. I really liked this texture profile though. The eggplant was 10/10; the eggplant was cooked well, so tender but not soggy. The sauce was really good too such that it was sufficient spice but not flaming. Would recommended. I enjoyed the cucumber salad and tofu as well, but have had better. Seasoning and prep were good though -- although the tofu was cooked so tender (or maybe was silken tofu to begin with) that the whole table was struggling with carrying it from plate to mouth -- heh. Food came out very quickly; staff were friendly, efficient, and helpful. Decent amount of seating with a cozy vibe. It was a good meal, not my favorite Szechuan spot, but definitely hit the spot.
