Very expensive for an all metal frame grill with stone siding and bad customer service. This is not a solid brick stone assembly . Actyally one of Pet's workers told us he builds the metal frame in a few hours. Definitely not worth the price compared to a real solid brick stone island. Be aware , very pushy sales representative ( Pete ) trys to make money out of EVERY change on the way. When I finally got upset and was asking for some lineage, after I had already paid big for the simple change of assembly location at my house and not his shop ( +$1000), he literally dropped the job and walked out on us. Look at Kerry's review on yelp : Same gig: Pete is pleasant as long as the money flows , he can't take complains, gets impacient if a customer wants any changes, is very fast on addional frees and happy to hand it down to his "subcontractors" ...while he is walking away. Solid product - terrible install experience. I waited until a year after install to write this review, to make sure I captured some of the follow-up experience as well. We went with this company because of all the five star reviews, and it looks like I'm writing the first low one - sorry, but I can't recommend this company based on my personal experience. The bbq itself was built to our specs, and generally has held up well so far. I must give Pete credit for tolerating a lot of questions and design changes from us during the build early on, since we're not experienced contractors ourselves and wanted to understand what was going on, especially when things weren't turning out as we expected. But as the process went on, he became less and less tolerant, and eventually gave up and handed off finishing the job to one of his subcontractors, in a manner that we felt was quite unprofessional. The main point of contention involved the stack-stone surround that we added, which upon delivery seemed to have a more washed-out color than we expected, and we were worried the wrong color got installed. When we asked him, he quickly replied that they installed the right color and it probably appeared washed out "because it sat outside for a couple weeks." It's for an outdoor barbecue, mind you. Unsure how well he checked, we sent a picture to the manufacturer and they said it was almost certainly a mix-up and the contractor installed the wrong color. Through all this Pete became very defensive and upset that we were asking questions. The local distributor of the panels (El Dorado Stone) was kind enough to send a representative out to our property to inspect; they determined it was indeed the right color installed, and pointed out that the coloring on the panels was not super durable (man-made stone), and offered a free color brightening kit. Props to them. By the time this was resolved, however, Pete had become so upset with us because we were too picky and decided he was not going to oversee finishing the job (countertop had not been installed yet) and handed off the job to his countertop subcontractor. Although this caused some worry and extra effort, the subcontractor did finish the job and we are now mostly satisfied with the final product. A couple items that remained unresolved were a somewhat sloppy mortar job on the stack stone, as well as having to remove the protective tape from the appliances with a razor since they didn't take them off during installation (some edges of the tape still remain since we couldn't get all the way in with the razor and didn't want to scratch it). All that to say, if you have a straightforward job, no changes, and no questions, I don't doubt you'll get a solid product. Although washed out stack stone, sloppy mortar, and extra finish work on our end may not sound like a big deal, after dropping $10k on a barbecue, I expected a little higher level of service than what we got. read more

I'm getting ready to build my own BBQ Island so I did price comparisons for BBQ Island components (Blaze Grill, Griddle, Refrigerator, Trash Drawer, Storage drawer, Summerset Pizza Oven, and a couple of double door access doors) from a variety of BBQ Island businesses online. I wanted to find a business within 50 miles from Fontana, CA. I found Islands in the Sun and decided to email them my list. Pete DePalma responded quickly and said he would send me a quote. His quote was about $1800 less than other competitors. I was a bit skeptical, but I took a chance. Pete said I would have everything by a specific date. When that date came, he communicated with me to say a few of the components were on back order due to COVID-19 and I would get everything within a week. I'm not going to lie, I was a bit concerned but a week went by and he texted me that he would be delivering the next day. He delivered almost everything, but he was still waiting for my grill and 2 access doors. A few days later, he texted that he would be delivering the rest of our items. As promised, all my items were delivered personally by Pete. I was not disappointed! I wholeheartedly recommend this small business who is professional, courteous, and dependable. Thank you Pete!!! I recently hired Pete to build a BBQ in our backyard. He actually ended up giving me some really great and practical design ideas. He was finished on time, on budget and after installation, he emailed me to let me know he was not happy with one specific detail on how the side burner fit into the BBQ, and he voluntarily purchased a new side burner and installed it for us! I had not had a chance to even really look at the BBQ island in any detail, and Pete volunteered to fix it simply because he takes pride in his work and his reputation! I would recommend Pete highly! We absolutely love our BBQ Island built by islands in the Sun! We had already begun our backyard Remodel and we're planning to have are Builder build a custom BBQ out of block. When we were shopping for a fountain, we saw a sample barbecue island and had Pete come out to give us a quote. We we're delighted that he could build the exact specifications that we wanted including a round bar at the end. He matched the stucco colors perfectly to our house and we had many choices of tile colors. The barbecue was built on time and delivered and installed and everything went as smooth as silk. And the cost was almost half of what it would have been. We got it installed in June and have been using it ever since! I am very pleased with our new BBQ. I called them because they were located in southern California and hoped they could look at my space with me. They all did good work for us, but Pete was the ONLY ONE who came in On Time, On Budget, with no surprises! Pete knew my in laws were coming to town, so he and his guys went above and beyond to make sure it was done and delivered in time, working well into the night on the day of delivery! He spent a lot of time meeting with us during the design phase, incorporating the ideas I had that were good, and very tactfully improving the ideas I had that were not so good. 3 1/2 years later, and my BBQ Island and fire table are still beautiful and bringing us great joy, and all of our guests say "Wow" when they step into the back yard.
