Came here around Christmas, hadn't been to an Island's in years. Sad that their menu items had changed, so it took a while to decide on what to order as a result. After post-poning the waiter twice and telling him I just needed one more minute, he then ignored us for like literally 20 minutes as I was ready and eagerly staring at him. And we were at the bar so kinda hard to miss lol. It felt like deliberate punishment for asking for more time. I typically love islands, but this location slacks. The only good thing we had was the cheese fries. I asked them to add extra cheese, so it was good. we got chicken tenders, uncooked! I went tonight with two friends. Easy place to go. I will say that the hostess and waitress were very sweet. We all ordered a different burger, and instead of the fries we all felt like a salad. When we ordered one of us asked that the salads come first because we were super hungry. They brought them out at the same time with our food. When my other friend said she was disappointed that they came at the same time, the manager said we only do that when you ask for that. We said no worries next time. I order the same thing every time. Basic burger with everything but cheese. I took a bite and it was a mustard sandwich with a meat patty. I like mustard, this was overdone. The veggies were all yellow, it was a lot of mustard. My friend who wanted only cheese and pickles on her burger received her burger without cheese. We called the waitress over and asked for cheese on the side my friend could put it on herself. We waited for over 10 min before my friend got up went inside to get the cheese herself. She ran into the waitress, cheese in hand taking the order at another table. When all was done we called the manager over. Since my friend who didn't get the cheese is shy our third friend spoke for us. He did comp my friend's meal, that was nice. He was not understanding almost blaming it on us. He said he has seen her there before. I mentioned that I used to go all the time and that there was a manager there who I loved talking to. He looked at me and rudely mentioned that he not only was no longer there, but no longer with the company. So making me feel like an idiot for thinking he was a nice guy. I work with people, I would suggest that maybe he validated my positive experience rather than to say he didn't even work here an entire month. We also like to order the nachos and a burger. My favorite burger is the big wave and the Malibu. We usually also get onion rings and cheddar fries on the side. The food is always so fresh and hot. We asked to be placed on the waiting list as a party of 4 and the host gestured us over to the waiting benches without actually taking our names or numbers. Our server, Aaron, was the highlight of our visit. He was very friendly. I ordered the Hula Burger ($17.99) and substituted the Swiss cheese for cheddar. All my friends had a side of fries with their meals, and I'm not sure what was wrong with mine, but they were incredibly salty. I even had the others try them to make sure I wasn't overthinking it before I said something. They all agreed they tasted off and didn't match the flavor of theirs. The Huli Huli Crisp chicken sandwich is so good. It's juicy, flavorful and has a nice crunch to it. If you like your burgers or sandwiches with some type of sauce, get a side of ranch dressing and add their secret seasoning to the ranch. So many other places have opened since then but my bf and I decided to have dinner on a whim here last night before our movie. We sat down almost immediately but it was definitely packed! We were surprised for a Tuesday night. Love that the menus are already on the table for you. We looked at the menu and ordered. Food didn't take very long to come out either. I really wanted to try some of their cocktails but didn't want to ruin the movie by having to use the restroom constantly LOL. So I'll have to try it next time. They brought out the fries first and asked us what dipping sauces we wanted in which they brought it with the main entree. I got the Longboarder Burger and my bf got the Hawaiian Burger which we both enjoyed. Super slippery and messy burgers but really hit the spot. The fries were great! The soup was good, as usual. As for the nachos, why keep them on the menu if you are going to treat them like an afterthought? After eating the top 6 or 7 chips with cheese on them, there were a bunch of chips with absolutely nothing on them. Per the agent, an internal audit of safety measures/temperatures/other products was performed. Islands found nothing wrong. The insurance agent claimed an issuance of $200 could be made as a gesture for what I went through. Of course they found nothing wrong - they audited themselves. Why would they tell on themselves? A third party/disinterested party should have performed the audit. If they really wanted to make it right, they would have offered compensation for a day of lost wages plus the sick time hours I had to use to cover my shift. A laughable and disrespectful response from them, at best. A formal complaint already filed with the Los Angeles County Department of Health. read more

I do love me some Islands but when Mama Goto isn't happy I can't give the same love. Last night my mother wanted to get the family together to have dinner. I arrived early to put my name down so she didn't have to wait long. Our group showed up and while waiting for our table to be called I noticed groups before and after me were getting seated. There was no one else waiting but us. I finally receive the text that our table is ready and was seated. My mother likes the quesadilla. Not a very adventurous person she saw there was a burrito on the menu. This burrito is a new menu item from the tortilla beach section. When her food came she immediately said that she can't finish it. (It was pretty big for her) She cut a small portion and offered it to the rest of the group. She took a bite and did not enjoy her food. If our server came periodically I would have mentioned something during our meal but the attention in the section we were sat in was lacking. Towards the end of our meal the server came and we asked if we could switch out her dish for something she can enjoy more. They were able to remove the burrito from the bill and gave her the quesadilla that she enjoys. I did try a small portion of the burrito and it is not good. I don't know who would want a burrito in a burger place but my fair warning is, you're wasting your money. Today I received an email from Islands informing me about the new Tortilla Beach menu. I decided to open it and take a look. Looking at the dish my mother ordered I noticed in the description it says that it comes with chips and 2 types of salsas. Really enjoyed my experience and the food here! We came during Happy Hour. Self-seating at the bar area was quick. The server came over promptly and took our order. I asked for a drink recommendation and got their version of the Long Island Iced Tea. The drink was strong and tasty and during Happy Hour (HH) was only about $7. Worth it! For an app, we got the spinach and artichoke dip. This was also on the HH menu. It hit the table fairly quickly and came out hot. The chips were some of the best I've had. Thin and crispy and not overly salty. The dip was creamy and flavorful. Would definitely reorder this. The table ordered two Longboarders cheeseburgers and we asked for the Island Reds (crispy onion strings) instead of the regular raw onion. The burger patty was seasoned, had slightly crispy edges, and all the toppings were fresh. This currently sits as my favorite burger in recent history. The burgers come with fries but we changed one for a side of onion rings. The fries are like a better version of In n Out's. They're super crispy while retaining a little bit of softness. Super delicious and a very generous portion. There's enough to share. The onion rings were crispy and hot and tasted fresh out the fryer. They brought the ranch out with the food without asking. The ranch was tasty, too. The servers checked on us multiple times as we were eating and were extremely friendly the whole time. Overall, I have zero complaints. We came in and seated ourselves at the bar and were in and out in almost 30 minutes which is amazing but not to say that we didn't receive the best service while we were there.
