I came to the outdoor dining one night here and ordered a burger and fries. My burger was brought first, and the fries came 20 minutes later. I finished my burger as it was getting cold before the fries arrived. I asked the waiters if she could please not charge me for the fries and she said she would adjust the check. Well when she brought the check the price was full price for a burger and fries and then she said she couldn't adjust the price because the fries are included with the burger. The manager ended up adjusting the price however it was dishonest and rude for her to lie and claim she did discount the price when in reality she did not. read more

Thank you Kayla for your response to my happy hour prices. That response actually proved my point. You are correct in saying your HR prices are half the regular price for a well drink. That means that a $5 happy hour drink goes to $10 after happy hour!!! Now let's take that same $5 drink that, after happy hour, goes to between $6 and $7 at Applebees, Red Robin or Ruby's. So, if I order a drink at Islands with my meal on happy hour and decide to have another at 6:32 it's going to cost me $10. Next time you're at Red Robin, I'll buy YOU a drink. read more

I have been going to Islands for 20+ years and always had a great meal. However, not tonight, at the Islands Restaurant in the City of Orange, I ordered the Chicken Jungle Caesar Salad and was very disappointed. The lettuce looked like chopped cabbage, no romaine lettuce! It was a mixture of brown wilty iceberg lettuce, mostly center core pieces, and red cabbage bits! I have ordered this salad multiple times, and it should only be "romaine lettuce". The chicken was good and the parmesan cheese was fresh but it was a real disappointment having to pick out all the red cabbage, wilty lettuce, and iceberg core chunks. Islands has long been one of our favorite restaurants, so when we needed someplace to take our big group after an event, we called and they were happy to have us. Upon arrival, we were taken to our reserved area on the patio. Joe, the manager was awesome and had the area all set up and ready for us. We were then greeted by our amazing server, Chayla! Oh my gosh, when I say that Chayla was amazing...I mean it! She is super friendly, very attentive and her service was flawless. I didn't hear a single complaint from anyone in our party of approximately 25 people. Drinks were always full, food came out quickly and without any mistakes. She even sent out the fries ahead of time to make sure we were able to start munching while we waited for the rest of the food. The fact that everything went off without a hitch and that Chayla was the only server for our entire group, was very very impressive. I love Islands and this is just one example why. GONE WAY DOWNHILL! Hey manager, do your job! I use to go there quite often and now I've stopped because of bad service. I went there with my young daughter and was told we would be seated in 20 min when there were tones of open tables. Three staff stood there gossiping and made us wait. Last time I went there the vapid, incompetent teenage hostess tried to sit us right next to the entrance so she wouldn't have to walk 20 ft. Pure garbage. Stay away. We have been to this locations a few times- but we came in to celebrate my son's 7th birthday and after not going out much as a family for the last year it was SO nice going somewhere that made us feel so welcome. The food and drinks were great. The service though was incredible. Our server Jorge really made our night. He was attentive, helpful and on task! The rest of the staff was extremely helpful as well. At the time, however, McDonalds had promised the second coming of Christ--the Mc DLT, cool on one side, hot on the other. With reckless abandon--and streamlined Styrofoam designs--technology was making serious headway, advancing at a rate not seen since the unabashed welcome of the 8-track. It had only been 13 years since we had put a man on the moon, yet here we were: Hot and Cold, existing side-by-side in harmonious, biologically-inert commune! And I, brainwashed and feeble-minded, was in Rapture. Teenage bliss! I didn't even hear Islands knocking. Fast forward to the 90's... My long-term relationship with fast food ends, thank you. My palate has matured, and my taste for burgers has become much more sophisticated. I own a pager. I no longer spend my time entertaining clowns and kings. I savor blue cheese, guacamole, teriyaki. I require--no, I demand--choices with respect to cheese! I am an individual; and, dammit, I will not accept "we don't have that" for an answer! Yes, Islands was my new paradise, my refuge. And it was perfect: the Islands closest to where I lived was right next to Wherehouse Records, RIP. In fact, if memory serves, my first Islands burger shares the spotlight with the night I first purchased "Nevermind"...on CD! (Late bloomer.) And the universe, shuddering with the anticipation of what could possibly be on deck, held its breath. The last 10 years or so... I have lost interest in Islands...almost entirely. I've returned now and again, however. Maybe it's more out of nostalgia than anything. It looks the same. The food hasn't seemed to change much. The staff hasn't aged. It's a museum...a museum of dinosaurs. You see, Islands hasn't evolved. And it needs to. My tastes have moved on. Yes, Islands, at one time your cheese fries were considered spectacular, left unchallenged. But they are on the fast track to extinction. And so will you. Now... This review is based on take outs only as dining isn't an option at the moment. When you order, check your items before you get home otherwise your family meal is ruined. Twice a family member or two didn't have food so they ended with whatever we have. I only order out when it's late after work or extremely tired to cook. It's very simple you'd think to request no cheese and get cheese, to add avocado and get none and sometime all together get a whole different burger. Cold old fries. I have called the restaurant and let them know not once but twice. No more take out. They'll apologize and offer a $25 gift card that they won't send for messing up your meal. This is my go to Islands Restaurant! I've only ever had one issue here and it was fixed immediately by the manager. Food is always delicious! This particular review was for my last experience here. Came for a family dinner on a Wednesday before my wife and I went on a mini vacation for her birthday. We were seated immediately and our waitress was there immediately for our drink orders. She came back, we ordered chocolate milks for my kids and ice teas for my wife and I. We already knew what we were getting before we came in so we placed our orders along with a last minute chips and salsa order from me. The chips came out hot and the salsa fresh and cold. Islands salsa is very mild as my kids eat it with no complaints. We didn't even finish our first batch of chips and our food arrived. My kids got chicken fingers, the jr wave burger, and buttered noodles. Chicken fingers are good. Standard restaurant issue. Same as the Jr. Wave Burger. My kids at it all so I all good with me. The buttered noodles were meh, they looked like they had been sitting for awhile. My youngest is the pickiest, so he didn't eat em and ended up sharing. My wife ordered Wiqui Waqui Salad and Yaki Tacos. The tacos were as always, which is freakin' delicious! Perfect fat chunks of white me chicken slathered in teriyaki sauce wrapped in a warm tortilla with signature salsa de pina! The salad was good, but I think they dropped half a red onion in it. Very strong and overwhelming amount of them, disproportionate to the salad. But, I'm not gonna let one strong onion ruin an entire meal! When the check arrived told the waitress (covertly) that it was my wife's birthday and she then brought out a birthday dessert of hot fudge brownie Sunday! Mmmmm! This place has some decent burgers. I tried the pineapple teriyaki burger on wheat bun and it was average. The fries was ok, but I've had better fries at other burger joints. I did however, loved their tortilla soup it was rich with flavor and good amounts of chunky chicken. The parking at this location is pretty abundant, and the service was pretty good. But the reason I have it 3 stars because they didn't have much on their menu like other places. If you're just looking for some good burgers and fries than head to this place. This location looks a bit hidden. Plenty of parking in the back. Environment has that beach feeling with sport events on the monitors all through out the restaurant. All staff members were awesome!!! Lower review for Wednesday nights. At first I thought it was just an off day...maybe a new server or it was teen night so I let it go. So we try a different Wednesday night even after saying Wednesday's are not a good time to go... then Boom!!! It happens again. Bad service. Everything takes forever to get to the table. My frosty beer has been welted into a semi cold beer. I cry inside. But our order is taken. 15 minutes pass. Alas!! Where is the soup?...it's no where to be found. As we wait. And wait. And wait. We watch as the waitress ignores our table, and chats it up with her co worker Peggy Sue. Out of nowhere a different waitress brings us our food. The soup was long lost and forgotten. This will haunt us for the rest of our days. We will wonder, what happened to that soup? What ever became of the chicken tortilla that was once so desired?? Well the answer to that is, it was simply forgotten. Never was the order placed. It was like a slap in the face. Now the meal, the meal was good. As always. You can always count on the cooks here. They were tasty but not a lot of meat and the beans were really good with plenty of cheese on there. I was surprised that these were shredded chicken tacos, for they money I would have thought you get chicken "pieces". I passed up dozens of places that make great quality tacos at half the price. Won't be back... we got a cup of water and drank half of it before realizing there is a large chunk of mold on the side of the cup. It wasn't a small amount but probably the size of two AirPods put together. What mold is even doing in the restaurant to begin with is my first question, followed by how the person cleaning it, and filling the cup didn't realize there was that much mold. read more

I came here with my mom during the week, our server was Chayla. She was very attentive and on top of our every need! I work in the service industry and I could see that she had several other tables. While attending to the rest of her section she gave her 100% service to every person she was serving. We had a minor issue with our food and she handled it with such grace and told us she would take it off the bill then brought a manager over right away. The manager was also very understanding and kind... he proceeded to make sure the item was removed from the bill. My mom and I have always enjoyed coming to islands!
