This place is always quite busy but the service is stellar. Maybe it's because i'm a regular now and feel all important when I walk in... I am always greeted and one particular waitress always acts super happy to see me which of course I loooove. Lunch is incredibly cheap and the portions are huge. Menu has lots to choose from and the food is always cooked to perfection. If you're in the mood for a sweet treat after...lucky you! They have a bakery with fresh pastries, cakes and all kinds of spanish style desserts. They are known for their croquetas and I know this is always up for discussion, but in my opinion they have the BEST croquetas ever in the history of croqueta making. Awful service, major issue. I am traveling with mom and my dog. Plenty of outdoor empty tables at 2:pm. I go inside and ask manager if I could sit outside with my dog. Yes, absolutely. We take one table and wait. No one comes by us. There are several tables being served outside and the server is working with them. 5 minutes later, still no one even acknowledges us. I end up going back inside to get my own menus and ask the host/manager if someone could come get our order. Server who had passed by us twice stops by and says he'll be right back. Another server stops by and brings water to my dog, but nothing for us. WOW! Now we get a server 8 minutes later, and place our orders. I know, we should have left, but we were hungry and traveling. How bad can it be for two sandwiches and an order of tostones (plantains) right? Well, sandwiches come out and they are okay, but certainly not worth the wait. My steak sandwich (pan con bistec) was cold which was a huge disappointment and mom's media noche was very greasy, like covered in melted butter. She barely ate it. Oh and the tostones were no where. Yep, I went back inside, because my waiter was no where, and found him inside, I asked him to forget the tostones, bring me a small container for mom's sandwich and my bill. Bill sure came over quick. I had to ask for the container again. I really enjoyed this place, i was hesitant to go since I've dined at other Islas Canarias before. Duh I'm Cuban! Islas Canarias has always been know for their "croquettas" that are simply hands down the best F-ing "croquettas in Miami! (and still are). Other than that Islas Canarias is just another "Carreta" with Good Cuban food; the type of Cuban food that you eat and think "my mom makes it better" or "abuelita" in most cases. So when i went to have lunch on a weekday the place was slammed and buzzing. I cant get over how beautiful this place is set up! All of the little things on the walls, the tiles and cute little coffee cups just really make me happy! lol So, this is hard because there are literally so many Cuban restaurants in Miami that are all so good and not to mention cheap!! I went to Islas for dinner last night and I ordered as an appetizer their famous croquetas OF COURSE & pollo a la milanesa. My parents ordered boniato con tasajo and ceviche. The food was very tasty! However, I'm not sure if this is an issue for some of you indecisive people but they had not digital or menu on paper. How can I decide what I want? No idea if the croquetas de jamon are the best in town, but they are legitimately tasty. Capped a Miami weekend with a trip to Islas Canarias Cafe in a Miami shopping center and snagged a seat outside. As the plan was to eat as the Romans do, ordered a plate of the mixed croquetas as well as a meat and cheese platter. Croquetas were fantastic. Thumb-sized, the golden sticks had slightly crunchy breaded exteriors that gave way to a creamy cheesy/hammy interior that was more sophisticated than expected. Just wish that they could have been served warmer, but no clue what is customary. To be honest, I had no idea how to use the saltine crackers with the croquetas, but I imagine that they taste best plain. And stick with the ham, as fish croquetas were comparatively mealy and didn't have the simple pop of the jamon. Generous portion on the meats and manchego. So much so that it merited a trip inside to buy a small loaf of bread (65 cents!) to turn leftovers into a carry-out sandwich for the beach. read more

Every time you walk in there, it smells like heaven. I love coming here for breakfast but they have really good dinner options. Huge huge fan of the desayuno criollo because how much it brings and how cheap it is! For $8 you get two eggs any style, choice of meat (sausage, bacon, ham, or chorizo), house fries or french fries (both delicious), two croquetas, toastada, AND a cafe con leche! Best deal ever!!! My husband and I have been coming to this place for years. Unfortunately, the last two time (which include this evening) the food, specifically the vaca frita and bistec de palomia, have been TERRIBLE. I NEVER return food, but tonight the meats cooked on the grilled were NOT edible. When the manager came to the table, she approached my husband and with an attitude and the ONLY opinion that mattered was hers not the customer's. She accused me of having a poor palate for taste and did not want to listen to our feedback. Sadly, we will Never return to this place. Very poor management Our server was not at fault and was very kind and apologetic. He too said that his manger has very poor manners and is very disrespectful. But it seems like every time you order some the same thing goes with empanadas, they are always served cold. And for the length of time it takes them to serve/bring the food to you From the bakery side, you would think that they were making it fresh. In other words, frying it on the spot. But no. I enjoy going to this restaurant/café. But I gotta agree with my wife on this. It's always a disappointment. Maybe nine times out of 10. Do I need to request that you guys fry okra OK that's on the spot for me? When you order some food it's always a disappointment when it's not right. Who wants a cold food of us are having sushi? I called my wife to let her know where we were and if she wanted anything. She said yes and then immediately said no because the Croquetas and empanadas are going to be cold. And she was 100% right. (I love the smell of bread!) We ordered their famous hand made croquettas. These croquettas are by far, the best in Miami. It's a must for every visit no matter what meal you're having. You can tell they are hand rolled because they are not perfectly shaped. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. We shared the masa de puerco and WOwZA! Tender on the inside...crispy on the outside with the perfect seasoning all the way through with onions on top that taste like garlic and lime. The dinner is served with traditional Spanish long grain rice, black beans and plantains separately. The black beans have just the right amount of sofrito so the flavor is just OOTW! (out of this world!) Sofrito, for anyone that doesn't know... is the onions, red and/or green peppers, garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper sautéed together to give an incredible depth of flavor to any dish. Every time I order a gray the croquetas are hot and fresh. They also have other party trays like bocaditos and pastelitos. I've had breakfast here and it is delicious. I've seen some of the lunch and dinner pleated and they look amazing. I've never had lunch or dinner her though. The ladies that work here are all super nice. The men too. Parking is t difficult because the restaurant is located within a large shopping center. This place gets pretty packed on weekends so prepare yourself to wait a bit. This is pretty much the same as the Islas Canarias Restaurant located on Coral Way and 137th Avenue just a little smaller. I think the menu is the same.
