I have been coming to this location for years and was rarely disappointed. During my last visit today I purchased 15 Croquetas de jamón and when I arrived home they were chicken instead. I called and the restaurant and return with the chicken croquetas only to be told that they were ham. I HAVE BEEN EATING THESE CROQUETAS FOR YEARS. I CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CHICKEN AND HAM. This place is amazing! It is definitely my new place to eat breakfast at. We went at 6:30 am after getting off our flight and man was it the best decision to stop in and get breakfast there. My boyfriend and I came here for a late lunch at around 4pm. It was pretty empty. There were only like 2 other couples. We had a medianoche sandwich, a pan con bistec, ham and chicken croquetas. The pan con bistec was ok, a bit dry though. The medianoche was pretty good. I loved the croquetas, even though the ham ones were a bit too salty for my taste. The service was good. Their breakfast is very good and the best part is their prices. I had the potato and onion omelette and it was very good. Their coffee is very good also and I loved their toasts. They lost a star because we asked for two sides of scramble eggs (one with cheese) and the server forgot to bring the scramble eggs with cheese. By the time he came back to the table we didn't want the second order anymore so we told him to bring some more toasts instead and to put cheese on the scramble eggs we already had on the table and we would call it even. Well, he brought us the toasts and two slices of american cheese. Didn't bother to offer to melt the cheese on the eggs, which were already cold by the time we got the cheese. BTW, they charged $1.75 for the cheese alone. We were also rushed to place the order. The server took the menus from the table while I was still looking at what else I wanted to order. It consists of 2 eggs, toast Cuban or French, house potatoes or French fries and your choice of bacon, ham or sausages. Of course they add two scrumptious croquetas. The food was absolutely delicious. Comparing the cafe to the Islas Canarias restaurant down the street, I would have to say that I love both! The Cafe has the option of delivery service, somewhat of a different menu that the restaurant does not have (i.e. wraps - like the Cubanito, tapas style plates, and wide selection of desserts) but it also has your traditional style dishes (e.g. paellas, seafood/meat, and yummy sandwiches). We asked to be seated outside and waited 10 minutes for the waiter but he kept walking past us not acknowledging nor letting us know that he'll be right with us. We already knew what we wanted to order at this point. I asked for moros or congri and he plainly said there was no moros or congri with a tinge of attitude and told us what he did have talking over me. I asked him since they don't have moros or congri If I order rice and black beans and make it into one side as a courtesy. He said no. We told him if he can give us a moment to look over the menu again and then we promptly walked out. We Are regulars and never experienced this level of service while dining here. It was actually a steak that was fried and all the breading came off so it was burnt. Tasted disgusting. Couldn't even cut it since it was so burnt. As you walk in you are kindly greeted and seated it's a very warm ambiance and as soon as you are seated of course you'll get bread with butter. An hour and a half later, we are leaving and still not a seat available! In my 30+ years in Miami, I have never seen a Cuban restaurant like this! After being a loyal and regular customer for over 21 years today I decided we will never ever go back to Islas Canarias Bakery. The quality of the food has been going down hill in the past few month and today was the drop that fill the cup. We order a breaded chicken steak and a palomilla. The chicken was so tought it could not be cut with a steak knife and the palomilla meat was also extremely hard, poor quality meat. We returned the uneaten half of the chicken and complained to the sever The manager was rude with a "I do not care" attitude. She did not even try to apologize or offer a credit. Last week we had to complain to another manager about how dirty the wall next to our booth was and again we left half of the fetuccine ordered bcs it had a weird taste. That time my husband and I felt sick after eating there. All their restaurants in the area are serving a very low quality food to include the original.Islas Canarias and Finka. This place is amazing. I've eaten here for several years. I admit I have gone on an off day where the service was ehh, or the food was slightly off. I can however say that it is very seldom. Delicious! Amount of food for your buck is on point! Service is friendly and quick! I've heard good things about breakfast but I'm writing only about dinner. Came here with a group of 12, all ordering for the table and themselves (a lot of plates). This particular day, I was craving fried rice. I ordered the Hawaiian Shrimp Fried Rice and I was satisfied more than 100% that I fought to finish my plate. It beat me, but the pineapples, scallions, salty soy sauce and shrimp all together was like a fruit paella to compare. The Lomo Salteado Fried Rice was ordered to my side and also delicious. Yuca fries ordered as appetizers were hot at first but goos too. Topped it off with Sangria throughout the evening, which made everything better for the whole family too. ;) The waiter, who was Ecuatoriano and would mention his name if I remembered, was by far the best waiter you could expect at any restaurant. Isla canaria has the best croquetas hands down... But we came to dinner with the family tonight. I came to have the Thursday special of guizo de maiz and they didn't have any more (they ran out!) I was pretty upset about that...either way I ordered the lentils instead and hey we're OK. My husband ordered a bistec empanizado the size was very big and good to share but only came with one side side? I've never been to a restaurant that you can get rice but the beans are extra? Or get rice and maduros are extra... Next my daughter ordered the fettuccini it was like a soup super creamy and barely any noodles, it was a little to much.
