Chicken Parmesan Special (3 Stars) The chicken was tuff and they only served 1/2 sliced chicken breast, really?!.. where's the other half.. for the price they should really give a fully breast of chicken. Also don't just cut it, it needs to be pounded so it's tender. The one saving grace on the dish was the sauteed spinach with lemon,EO and garlic (4 stars), other than that it was just ok. They did top with a decent quality mozzarella slice. Very little red sauce. They also up sold me on a side dish of pasta (3 Stars), just a basic red sauce with pasta, no much flavor. My husband and I just had lunch here. It's probably one of our best Italian lunches we've had in downtown Danville. We were actually going to go the Italian restaurant (starts with an "L") unfortunately they were closed for lunch. Started with the Caponata for apps DELICIOUS! I could have that w/ crusty bread a bottle of Chianti and call it a night! So, ordered the Norma and Salmon. Both were amazing. We had to have dessert. The cannoli was so so good! My friend made a reservation for inside, yet when we arrived they couldn't seat us inside and offered us outdoor seating instead (and this was on one of those hot summer nights when you'd really rather be inside with the AC). Then, the waiter said they had a full bar; yet they couldn't make several drinks I asked for.. And when they finally made me a simple daiquiri, not only did they charge me for a more expensive rum, but they charged extra for the lime juice... are you kidding me? Located in Downtown Danville railroad Ave. Isola has already expanded its hours to accommodate its popularity. Now open for lunch / dinner and happy hour on Tuesday thru Friday. We grabbed a sit outside on the patio a jazz guitarist plays in Friday and Saturdays. My daughter and I got a couple of cocktails and the following appetizers. Arancini Rice balls Beef carpaccio Grilled Veggies Ahi tuna Mussels All were excellent but the mussels really stood out. They were large plump and in a saffron sauce. Plenty of parking in the large public lot. Look for the Vespa and the Fiat in the front. Isola Osteria is the current talk of the town. In the old Sliver pizza place, they completely gutted it and built a cute, romantic, and charming eatery. Only open 5 weeks, they're fine-tuning and working out the kinks. Outside, about 20 tables, and inside, about the same. A wee bit on the loud side, but that just adds to the wonderful vibe. A small 6 person bar seem to always have a couple of spots for walk-ins, but otherwise, RSVP's are strongly recommend. I want to commend the service. Lots of staff workin' it hard, and all so nice. We ordered wine and cocktails, and enjoyed the au gratis braided sourdough with a delicious dipping sauce, evoo, balsamic, garlic, herbs. The bread was not warm, but still, great. We also ordered the Porchetta al'Forno [$27, 4.0 stars] -- oven roasted Heritage pork shoulder, sea salt, rosemary, pork jus and oven roasted rosemary potatoes. Tasty for sure, but not tender and I've had better many times. The gf ordered the Casarecce Trapanese [$23 + $8 prawns, 3.0 stars] -- sundried tomato and bronte almond pesto, basil, tomatoes. Frankly, no flavor and bland, and she sent it back. Wonderfully, they brought her 2 of the Ravioli Porcini Trifolati made with sweet onions, rosemary, white wine cream sauce...totally delish [5.0 stars] -- that, I would order time and time again. Tried the newest Danville rage for lunch. Isolo Osteria, owned and operated by true Sicilians. This place is authentic! From the waiters with attitude to the anchovy pasta. The bread starter with olive oil was really good. A bit salty, but that's how I like it. The mains we ordered were pasta and panini. The quality and freshness was outstanding. Handmade pasta with an anchovy ragu that tasted like it had been simmering all day. Pro-tip. Order the arancini, Italian rice balls. They were right out of the fryer and perfect!! Last night, we decided to try the new restaurant downtown. We didn't have reservations, but my partner wanted to see if we could wait. We were very lucky to grab a table for two on the patio. I ordered the gnocchi and my partner asked the owner if they made squid ink pasta which wasn'T on the menu. He was so lucky that the manager just so happened to have fresh cuttlefish that day. Because my partner ordered off the menu, the owner had to cook the dish himself so that the recipe was right. How nice is that! It was worth the wait. It's Saturday morning, and I had a dream I went to an Italy and had a nice dinner with people I love to hang out with... but it happened! Actually I didn't go to Italy but everything else was true. Last night, I had dinner at Isola Osteria and it was the perfect way to end a busy week. The food was amazing! We ordered family style so we ordered 4 different appetizers, salads, and entrees. it was all so good. It's very savory and hearty so if you want something not as savory then just let them know! They are so accommodating. Their team embodies the hospitality Sicilian spirt of food. Among everything we ordered, the mushroom pasta was my favorite. I liked it so much I took extra bread just to scoop more of the mushroom sauce. I wanted to take some mushroom sauce home to eat it with rice later... Dessert. Get the bomba chocolate. In Filipino (Tagalog) bomba means naked, so that was a no brainer for me.... "Naked chocolate" It is Saturday... so I'm going to work out burn off those calories work up and appetite and return to Isola Osteria tonight... Oh pro tip: they just opened so they are working out the kinks. This is soft-opening night. Customers are lining up at the door. We have been waiting for Isola Osteria to open since summer. The entire restaurant space was rebuilt from previous businesses. The interior has a modern feel. The restaurant is striving for authentic Sicilian and Southern Italian. Tonight we are getting the Rughetta salad with fennel, watermelon radish, ricotta and blood orange vinaigrette; Burrata Caprese and the whole branzino with sautéed broccoli rabe. The caprese was exceptional. The balsamic sauce was lightly dusted with a small amount of salt. The combination created a great flavor combination. By the time we left the whole restaurant was filled with happy customers. For dessert the Torta Della Nonna and espresso. This was a great opening. It's a small world. Many of the customers tonight seemed to know each other. We recommend giving Isola Osteria a try. It is great to have a Sicilian restaurant near us. read more

This place was wonderful!! We had my bridal shower here, and the owner Angelo was so welcoming and a great host. The food was absolutely amazing, I highly recommend the mushroom ravioli, it was definitely a fan favorite when we went. And every single one of the desserts were so tasty! My favorite was the chocolate lava cake, for sure. Highly recommend for a nice night out with your girlfriends or your significant other! I am not sure how I feel about my experience at Isola. The menu was unique and the food was amazing! From the appetizers to entrees, all there decent portions and were delicious. Unfortunately, the service was terrible. Our waiter was awful and ruined the experience not only for myself, but the rest in our party. I did not catch his name, but his apron was different from the other waiters (different color straps, with more items on it). He was unattentive, rude, and combative. We brought a bottle of wine and asked for a decanter, which never came, nor did he even pour the wine for the table. Outside of the wine, we ordered cocktail, two of which were never served. He also completely forgot to take my order and seemed bothered I asked him to repeat everyone's due to the forgetfulness. When we received our check, it was also incorrect. He added the drinks that were never served and blamed us saying they were. There were also other tables entrees on our bill. In addition to this rude, unprofessional behavior to us, it was also noted that he had a disagreement with the guitarist outside, which visibly made those around him rather uncomfortable. The chefs deserve so much better than the waiter we unfortunately had. Food was 10/10, service was one of the worst I have ever experienced. read more

Update: As I mentioned before this has been my favorite Italian spot in Danville . However, a recent visit was a bit disappointing. It was on a Friday , and yes it was busy. We were seated outside with enough heaters to keep us warm. We order the appetizer with the fried calamari and artichoke hearts. The people next to us order the same and noticed the the same issue , that the plate was artichoke heavy and very little calamari. As the evening continue I noticed the food took a while to be served. It took a long time before our server walked by before I flagged him down for a drink While wearing for the waiter to get my drink , I noticed a table next to ours was getting all sorts of wines by their server. He came to serve them about 5 times before I had to flag down my server. It was so obvious that whoever was being served in that table new what I believe was the owner or manager. What's upsetting is that we were there to get good quality food , good service and enjoy a great experience. However , I had a bad experience that day. Our neighbor who had the same observation I did about the appetizer was kind enough to share a glass of his wine he brought. That was the highlight of the night. Definitely a place where you can feel underdressed if you decide to just pop in on a night out -- though it looks pretty casual it's more of a dressy place. Tonsss of wine options and other drinks -- lovely place to sit on the patio and just sip and chat with friends! While the ambiance, drinks and service were swell, the food was pretty lackluster and disappointing. The chicken dish was plated...scarily...it looked gross and didn't have much flavor to help. Seemed like it was just boiled and then had seasoning thrown on top. While the gnocchi was a large portion and looked great, it also lacked flavor and the gnocchi itself seemed dry? Not really sure. The porchetta al'forna was by far the best dish we had. The pork was tender, the gravy was sooo tasty to dip everything in, and you really can't go wrong with potatoes. Sadly, two of our party of four were sick a few hours later but we all shared food so can't say what from. Our first time here, we made a reservation and requested to sit outside. Nice space on the front and side of the restaurant with shade. Inside seemed loud but was nice. Service was good, prompt even though we were outside, all were nice. We started with the Fiore di Zucca which I love but I must say I have had even better; these were a bit thicker but still very tasty. The bread was just okay but the olive oil dip was AMAZING with lots of garlic, rosemary, basil and ? I had the Spiedini di Spada which has a light lemon butter sauce and spinach - very delish. The other dish was the meat lasagna special but was only so-so (I wanted to tell him to order something else). Dessert we split the chocolate cake which was warm with vanilla ice cream & raspberry sauce - it was good. But then I saw the pistachio "cheesecake" which I pictured as a heavy NY style but it looked like thin cake layers with cream layer and pistachio cream layer. Next time. We had wanted to try Isola together, but were left disappointed. Food was ok. The noise inside the restaurant was unbearably loud and we couldn't hear each other talk. Still my favorite Italian restaurant in all of the Bay Area and is sad to see it shut down after August 30. My family used to go to their Berkeley location Trattoria La Siciliana and was super excited that they were opening a restaurant in our town in 2024. When we last came to dine here at the Danville location we ordered the bucatini, porchetta and porcini ravioli. All the food was wonderfully made, with the bucatini maybe slightly overcooked. It was our first time trying the porchetta and it was super tender and delicious, seasoned perfectly. We enjoyed the porcini ravioli with wine cream sauce that came with leek and it was cooked just right. Food portions was good too. Service was fine despite our waiter having to run around serving many tables. Hopefully we could visit their Berkeley restaurant Agrodolce Osteria one day and to taste their speciality southern Italian dishes. read more

First time we went to Isola, we really liked it. Since then they added a lot more tables outside... we tried a second time . Unfortunately the experience was disappointing. We arrived at 7:30, and ordered starters and main course to a waiter with let's call it "poor side table manners" 30 mins later we got our starers, the stuffed zucchini flowers were very greasy. Second plate took an extra 30 mins and a lot of asking for a status to the waiter, who kept saying "yeah yeah, food is coming" All other tables around us got their food before ours. Tables that came after ours. I ordered pork shoulder. Presentation was lacking and disappointing. Flavor was just ok. Only half of the order came out, 10 mins later came the second half, except for it was the wrong order... so one person from our party had to wait an extra 10 mins more. 7:30 reservation, we were on our way out at 9:15. What a pleasant surprise: this is a sister restaurant to the Osteria in Berkeley. The owner, Angelo & family, did a nice job with this new place. The menu has so many wonderful dishes to try, should have come with the crew to order lots of different dishes to share & try, yet gathering everyone was a challenge. So hubby & I started with the little gem salad, anchovies were so delicate & tasty. For the mains we had an order of the mushroom ravioli & stuffed swordfish. The ravioli are screaming delicious, more plz. The swordfish was a layed experience of flavor, awesome. Too stuffed to move onto dessert. As for ambiance - well it was Super Bowl Sunday, so maybe not the best day to chat about ambience. The seating area is a bit cool, not sure what that was about. One of my new favorite spots to eat and drink. Staff are friendly and food is superb. Authentic Sicilian (not to be confused with Italian food, similar but differences). One of my favorite items is the Arancini. So delicious. With meals, I really like the Porchetta or the Ragu. Great wine selection and a decent bar selection. read more

I have lived in Danville and taught here for over ten years. I am a San Ramonian, born and raised. I sat at this restaurant for over 45 minutes with my BLACK best friend. I am Puerto Rican and Chinese, lighter skinned... we sat and watched the server greet and serve everyone else. My friend ended up asking another person to serve us. The other server took our order and got us food and drinks. The little blonde server that had ignored us, ran into him when he had two espresso martinis, our martinis, She didn't even acknowledge him or that she spilled our drinks all over him. His arms and shirt were completely covered in our drinks. (He probably spent the rest of the day sticky AF) . He walked up to us and apologized about her doing that to him and her poor service. All the staff said she was high. Well, she might be high, but also has bad manners, and might be a racist. Sorry not sorry. The attitude you accept becomes your culture. I wouldn't know. We never got to eat there. I convinced my group to come here. They all wanted Locando Ravello but I told them I wanted to try the new restaurant in town. They begrudgingly accepted. Got there at 7 pm for a 7 pm reservation. By the time 7:35 pm rolled around and the hostess said it would still be 10-15 more minutes before we had a table the group was starving and grumpy. They called Locando. Locando got us right in so we left. The hostess was apologetic and sweet. But 45 minutes late for a reservation is crazy! So disappointed. read more

I generally avoid writing less-than-stellar reviews, especially for locally owned small businesses. I'm a firm believer in second chances, and I can overlook a lot--mediocre food, delayed service, or even needing to ask multiple times for a menu or wine list. But when servers are rude and indifferent to your experience, that's where I draw the line. The evening began with a rough start: the server practically threw my martini on the table as he rushed by, causing the table to shake and the drink to splash. It was a small but telling moment. Later, while dining at a high top, I asked a staff member if we could move our chairs closer together as I worried that doing so might block the walkway a bit. They assured me it was fine, but minutes later, the same "rushed" server briskly informed us, "You can't sit like that, you're blocking the way." When I apologized and explained that we had been told it was okay, he curtly responded, "Well, it's not." The final disappointment came with the ragu pasta dish, which was so overcooked that the pasta had turned to mush. I didn't bother to complain or ask for a replacement--by then, I doubted anyone would care. To the owner: I'm sure you're aware that word of mouth is crucial for any business. The customer experience is everything. While it's understandable that there might be growing pains as you work out the kinks of a new venture, if you want your customers to be patient and understanding, you need to do better. At the very least, create an environment where the staff appears to care about the customer experience. read more

A wonderful evening, greeted by friendly staff and sat immediately. Waitstaff was knowledgeable and attentive without being too pushy. The food was excellent- frito Misto excellent starter- there were four of us, we had the branzino served head on at the table, pork butt over roasted potatoes (very light!), the wild mushroom ravioli, and the bucatini with sardine and anchovies and was delicious.
