However, even though there were enough chicken and fillings, there were only three tortillas - and they knew that we were sharing. A thoughtful restaurant would have added a fourth or at least asked. Stopped by this place hoping for some solid Mexican food, but honestly, I left feeling a bit disappointed -- First off, the prices here are way higher than they should be for what you're getting. I don't mind paying more for great food, but $13 for two taquitos split in half feels like a lot to me. The food itself was... fine. Not bad, but nothing special. Drink we're ok, a lot of ice and not even fill to the top when delivered. Service was friendly enough, and the atmosphere is nice -- I'll give them that. We tried this restaurant because we love Mexican food and wanted to sit outside with our dogs. Wow the food is incredible! The chips and salsa are insanely good, so was the guacamole. I order their crazy salad with shrimp and the shrimp were big and succulent and perfect to seasoned. Very savory and delicious. The dressing was perfect. My husband got their burrito bowl with chicken. I took a bite and it was so good. He cleaned his plate. My sister got the quesadilla roll and said it was delicious, my dad got the Hermanas trio tacos and he said they were amazing, and my mom got the Hermanas salad which she has orders before and loves. I came to Cocina Hermanas for a farewell dinner for a teammate. I appreciate that our reserved table was nicely set with chips, salsa, and water already placed on the table. As for the food, I thought it was good! I'd definitely come back. We had the appetizer sampler plate which was absolutely delicious. I specifically enjoyed the birria empanadas & the quesadilla roll. For my meal, I ordered the Hermanas Salad with Shrimp -- It was a very simple and light meal, I honestly expected a bit more flavor in their jalapeño avocado dressing but it was still good enough for me to finish my meal. We then wrapped up our night with their sampler dessert, which was delicious too! Of all the items on the plate, I'd say I really enjoyed the churros which were nice & crunchy. Ambiance is cute, great place for a lunch date! However, it can get pretty warm in there. I didn't see a fan or A/C being run so definitely be prepared for the space to get a little warm if you visit in the Summer. As for service, I docked down a star because it could have been better. Our water cups were only refilled once over the few hours we were there chatting & eating. Fortunately, I brought my water bottle and at some point had to drink from that because our cups weren't getting refilled for a while. Cocina Hermanas specializes in what I'd endearingly label Millenial Mexican, Mexican fare with an upscale twist and a hint of gentrification (unsurprising given the prime perch in downtown Danville). It's always reliably uncrowded which makes it a frequent fallback for my family when indecision strikes. Upon seating, you're promptly greeted with cloth napkins, water in proper cups, and a bowl of freshly fried chips accompanied by salsa. I will say that their salsas are sublime, bright, tomato-forward, clearly house-made, and fresh. My usual order is the steak fajitas. Unlike the obnoxious, attention-seeking fajitas at Chili's, their fajitas are tender, flavorful, and portioned enough to share depending on your appetite and diplomacy. I will say that they don't arrive sizzling, maybe just sizzling in spirit more than in temperature. I feel like the cast iron pan that houses the steak serves a mostly theatrical role since the fajitas are far from searing hot. A ceramic plate would probably do the job just as well minus the pretense. Don't get the martinis though. As for the martini: passable, not praiseworthy. But let's be fair, it's a Mexican restaurant, not a cocktail bar. You come here for salsa not the shaken spirits. The service is also great, but the prices are a bit steeper. A solid restaurant for those who want to splurge a bit more on Mexican cuisine. read more

Came here for HH before a local event. Initially we ordered Palomas, however they ran out of their well tequila and wasn't available for HH. We ended up getting a pitcher of margaritas. Depending on where you are in the restaurant, the vibe here is lively and fun (closer to the bar) or a little more intimate (lighting is low, etc.). The folks here were very friendly and attentive. Came here with a pretty sizeable group (9 of us) and had reservations. So we were all seated right when we got there. They have some pretty amazing sounding dishes on their menu, but I wasn't super hungry, so for myself, I just had the Baja Trio (grilled fish, shrimp, and mole tacos). I thought the tacos were really tasty and got to also try some of the shrimp ceviche as well as a couple of the other apps. Definitely a great spot for groups or even if you want to go to the bar to grab a nice meal and watch some sports. Went to watch my great nephew play football in Modesto and tried this restaurant close to the Jr college. This place was nice, you walk up to order and pay and they bring you your food. Bathroom was very clean and the food was so good. I ordered asada tacos and they were so good and tasty. My dad ordered the same but he wanted rice and beans. I hate to leave a bad a review so I'm not going to because I'm sure there are a few variables at play, like paying high rent for their corner spot. 3.5 stars. Lovely place, great ambiance, all the makings of a great spot, except there's one giant detail that needs addressing. The prices here are too high for the portion sizes we receive. Paying a higher dollar amount isn't the issue it's that we don't receive the bang for our buck. Last night we wanted Mexican food but we've been disappointed with the restaurants in Danville. We decided to try Cocina Hermanas after not going there for almost a year because of disappointing service and food. Last night the food and service were outstanding! The restaurant even looked remodeled since we were last there. The salsa and guacamole were spicy and flavorful. My husband had the shrimp fajitas with 5 large shrimp and cooked perfectly. I had the chicken enchiladas with mole sauce. It was so good, I was craving it again today. We had several Cadillac margaritas, which were delicious. We will definitely be back and so happy to have a great Mexican restaurant so close to home. read more

The salsa was remarkably fresh and tangy , we had the Hermanas taco trio (carne asada, birria and chicheron) omg the flavors were so intricate and purposely chosen, I believe there will never be a more satisfying dish of taco's . We also had the greatest seafood taco trio , as unique as the other trio . I can honestly say , not knowing what to expect here ended up being the best dining experience in a long time . Our server was great and as attentive non stop. The ambiance on the patio is out of this world comfortable and relaxing . If you are anywhere in the Bay Area , go way out of your way to find this spot . I could go on for hours about it , we live in Phoenix , or we would make this a weekly adventure , for now it will be part our ritual when visiting family here and in wine country . Disappointing experience today. My family of 7 tried to eat here but were turned away as soon as we walked in the door. I had been on Open Table shortly before we arrived and saw there were multiple reservation slots for tonight but you had to put down a credit card which I wasn't comfortable with so we decided to walk in instead. The place only had three or four tables occupied and a few people at the bar and it was only 7:10pm (50 min from closing). The bartender took one look at our group (4 adults and three teens) and told us they were understaffed and weren't taking any more customers. We have never taken our family here to eat so this was a terrible first impression. The crazy thing is I looked back on Open Table as soon as we left and there was still a 7:15 and a 7:30 reservation for 7 available. Made no sense. It seemed like the bartender just wanted to go home. I can see a larger group being as issue if we walked in 5 or 10 minutes before closing, but 50 minutes? We ended up going to Piatti's instead and had a lovely dinner with amazing service and a delicious dinner. I guess it worked out for us but still disappointed by the unfriendly and dismissive experience at Cocina Hermanas. If you don't want customers after 7pm, then you should say your restaurant closes at 7pm. read more

What I ordered: + Rollitos de Quesadilla - we shared these fried quesadilla rolls and they were delicious. The outside was crispy but not hard like a taquito. Inside there's meat and melty cheese. + Diablo taco trio - 3 tacos including spicy shrimp, roasted fish, and chicken tinga. I really liked the fish and chicken tacos, but the shrimp was too spicy for me. The fish and chicken tacos had nice toppings like cabbage, cucumbers, and pickled onions, but there was no topping on the shrimp taco to give some relief from the spiciness. Beautiful restaurant with great ambiance. We went there on a busy Friday evening for a birthday celebration. Great menu, just wish they had more vegetarian options. The drinks were decent. The Horchata though was the best I have had in a while, very creamy and just the right amount of sweet and cinnamon. The garlic shrimp and the fish tacos were excellent. Husband and I wanted to go to a good happy hour, and we found it here! Amazing deals on food and drinks, truly delicious food, and attentive service. Shout out to Kate at the bar! We shared a few of the tacos, the chicharron appetizer (I loved the flavor of this, meaty, salty goodness!!) and the quesadilla roll (cool presentation and nice crisp to it). Still on the hunt for those red sauce enchiladas & I may have found them, just scrumptious. So the meals started with chips & salsa, followed by an order of the cauliflower & drinks all around. The waitress made the suggestion of trying their house cocktail of resfresco de pepino - refreshing, good flavor & tasty. One drink came out smoking, cool to see, even yummier to drink. For the mains there was an order of the chile verde, chicken enchiladas done in red mole & an order of the enchiladas in chile ancho sauce; all past the yummy test. The chicken in both sets of enchiladas was prepared traditionally, shredded. The chile verde was cubed, yet the pork was cooked perfectly. Onto dessert, this was the only let down; we ordered the churros, they were a tad too dense, always thought churros are crunchy on the outside & fluffy on the inside, not the case here. Service was efficient, welcoming & our waitress made good suggestions. If you asked a food runner for something, an aqua fresca, they were on it, went & got it. Disappointing first experience! 1. After our order arrived, we had three failed attempts to flag down a server for salt/pepper and tortillas. Nobody came to check on us and by the time we received tortillas for our fajitas, the veggies and chicken were cold. No apology, just an excuse that they are really busy - note that our reservation was 5:45 so pretty early still and restaurant was not busy and we were done eating by 7. 2. Grilled veggies in the fajitas were flavorless, full of what tasted like boiled cauliflower, barely any other veggie and not seasoned. Chicken was the same and dry. 3. Elote arrived cold 4. We visited Cocina Hermanas for brunch. I don't know why I've waited so long to try this place. We started out with guacamole as well as the complimentary house salsa and chips. The servers were friendly and came by to check on us frequently. I had the chilaquiles for brunch with a Michelada. Everything was quality and delicious.
