I cannot stop thinking about the scallop/lobster risotto from last night. It was exceptional. We came for an early Father's Day dinner and the evening was lovely. Location is perfect, ample parking nearby and ambience is super chic and cozy. Calamari- 10/10. Small portion though, we should have ordered a 2nd appetizer. Bread/Butter- it seems like they're rationing butter....the plate had enough to coat *maybe* 1.5 rolls Chilean Seabass- 9/10 Prawn Tacos 9/10 The signature bourbon drink was 10/10....wish we ordered a couple more. The hostess was kind and sat us immediately, but seemed a little stressed out, could just be due a very busy night. A warm smile goes a long way. This restaurant has a Happy Hour not to be missed. We started with a white wine and lager beer. Next up was the calamari and Ceaser salad appetizers. Both were full of flavor and generous portions. The last item from the HH menu was the beef sliders. This was the Belle of the Ball. Extremely delicious and, again, the right portion. Let ok'ing at the menu the prices were on par with other restaurants and we will definitely be back to enjoy a full meal and more Happy Hours. Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and refreshing. My husband and I visited Tides for Valentine's Day this year, and I cannot believe that I'm just now getting around to leaving a review! And the reason for it happening now? I have been CRAVING (!!!!) a few of the items on the menu! The calamari, scallops, lobster - chef's kiss! The steak? Mouthwatering. I know this is a seafood restaurant, but our waiter advised the ownership is the same as Forbes Mill (also in Danville) and if you've ever been there, you know it's probably the best steak that you can find in the east bay, and the steak at Tides is the same quality. Despite going on Valentine's Day when it was extremely busy, our waiter and the kitchen did a fantastic job. We never felt like service suffered and they were incredibly on top of everything from start to finish. Our waiter gave us amazing recommendations from food items, to cocktails, and wine pairings, and was just so warm and friendly. The restaurant itself is so nicely decorated and I love the modern and trendy take. Given the location, I was expecting it to have a more traditional aesthetic, and I'm so impressed with the direction they went with it. My wife and I have been wanting to try this place for a while now and finally pulled the trigger. One of our main hesitations was that it is a little pricier than where we normally go, but we decided to have a nice birthday dinner out. The food was fantastic. We sat out on the front patio, which was lovely to have the extra space and the outside air. The lychee lemonade was incredible. It was everything that I wanted it to be. They have a good variety of lemonade flavors, but if you like sweet flavored things and lychee then I strongly recommend this one over any others. It is very sweet but it was so refreshing. The gnocchi has the option of adding 2-3 Shrimp to it ($7 per shrimp) but it also had so much flavor. Lastly we had the chocolate lava cake for desert. It was a delectable end to a wonderful meal. Came for my Birthday! The staff was very sweet, in high spirits for Mother's Day weekend. I had the Oh Boy Peach cocktail and the scallop risotto. The cocktail was very sweet, I personally would have liked more of a mint taste to it. And the scallops risotto was very favorable, and deceptively filling. We also had the lava cake for dessert which to be honest was a little dry. For others, this very well could be a perfect place, I just feel like I prefer things slightly milder than they made things. Wanted to go to a steakhouse for dinner and they had last minute availability so glad they did. We were seated immediately and decided to dine outside. This place was absolutely beautiful. The service is probably the best Ive experienced in a long time Daniel was absolutely amazing. The staff in general were so welcoming and attentive. To start we tried the Power and Infused lemonade honestly it was way too sour but we were able to cut it. The crab cakes were great to start with along with the caesar salad. I ordered the blackened seabass which was great with a side of scallops the scallops werent my favorite. The presentation of everything was beautiful. Met up with Black Badge Yelp buddy and his wife for a lovely evening of seafood at Tides. We made a Resy reservation and was seated promptly. The restaurant was packed. I heard the ownership is the same as Forbes Mill Steakhouse. Beautiful interior with a separate bar area. We ordered a fried calamari and Brussels sprouts for the table. Entrees we had the scallops, blackened halibut and the cioppino, all of which were excellent. Service was good. The other night we tried Tides for the second time in a while and I must say I was very impressed! I heard they did some staff changing and can honestly say the second time was a winner!! The decor is beautiful, the menu has a lot of unique stuff that makes you want to come back to try it all out Phenomenal service, prob one of the best we have had! We started off with the lobster toast which was absolutely amazing! How I would love to add that to my daily menu lol. It's definitely a must try The Ribeye steak is great size with great Flavor cooked to perfection! My hands down favorite item was the scallops with truffled risotto. Disclaimer: This review is only on the food taste and service as I did not pay for this meal. Came here for an early dinner for 8 people. The hostess greeted us warmly. Our server was really nice and introduced their specials. Had a drink that I forgot the name, but it was basically passion fruit margarita with jalapeño bitters. It was great with a kick and tajin on the glass rim for more spiciness. Should have gotten more of that drink, but decided to go with red wine to pair with dinner. The shrimp cocktail was fine with big pieces. The shishito peppers were good - I had like 8-9 pieces and only one piece was really spicy. Also had brussels sprouts, but I did not take a photo and it was average. My main dish was cioppino. The presentation was not great as the bread covered all the seafood. The taste was good as I finished the whole dish. For dessert, I chose the butter cake as it included a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The presentation and the taste were good. There was nothing bad at this place, but nothing really stood out either. With so many great restaurants in Danville, they may need to do more to get customers back. I would rate the food at 4 stars, but their service at 5 stars. Although I did not pay, I did see the prices. At those prices, I expected the food to taste better. read more

I was really excited to try this restaurant based on the reviews, but unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. To start with the positives, the service was friendly, and the half dozen oysters we ordered were perfectly fine. However, the main reason I chose this restaurant was for the tiger prawns, and what was served were clearly regular shrimp. There is a significant difference in both the size and appearance of tiger prawns versus standard shrimp, and the portion consisted of only three small shrimp. To make matters worse, one of them was missing its tail, which immediately made me question the attention to detail coming from the kitchen. When I brought this up to our server, I was told that they were tiger prawns, which was frustrating because they very obviously were not. In fact, the next day I stopped by the grocery store directly across the street and saw fresh tiger prawns and regular shrimp side by side, which only reinforced my concern that what we were served was not what was advertised on the menu. My boyfriend ordered the gnocchi, and while it wasn't bad, it was very average and nothing memorable, especially for the price point. After the issue with the prawns, we lost confidence in ordering anything else and ended up ending our dinner early. For a restaurant with such high ratings, we found the experience to be very underwhelming. The atmosphere was nice, and the service was polite, but the food did not live up to the menu descriptions or the reputation. The food was phenomenal at Tides! Came here on New Year's Eve and had an early dinner. The decor in the restaurant was gorgeous and the staff were so friendly. Service was excellent. Had our daughters birthday dinner at Tides. First timer. Place looks nice on the inside and out. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. We started with the seafood tower and crab cakes, a couple Caesar salads, clam chowder and French onion soup. Tower had fresh oysters, shrimp cocktail, poke, ceviche, and scallops. Oysters and ceviche were standouts, as were the crab cakes. Nice presentation with pouring the soup over the clams for chowder, but was a little too creamy for me. Salads were decent but romaine was chopped small. Our server was helpful with the wine and specials. Most of us went with Surf and Turf. Filet was cooked properly, sea bass was nice, pasta was al dente. My cioppino was full of seafood, but a tiny bit salty... still good tho. Fresh bread and butter at the table would be a nice touch given the saucy dishes we had. Not a criticism but just a suggestion. One con: the tables in the dining room are pretty close together. You really have to be careful navigating to the restroom. We also had a table behind us where someone had some pretty strong and floral perfume. Another ridiculous dining addition to Danville's over saturated market of pretentious, overpriced, and over stylized restaurants. After living in Danville for five years, I could never understand how such a wealthy area couldn't get good food right. The aesthetic seems to be the only important thing. Tides fits right in: the decor and aesthetic are immaculate, however the food was an absolute joke, especially considering the high price tag. I ordered the "mahi mahi fish tacos" ($25). I have never seen such tiny and anemic tacos in my life. They looked like the proper size for a Barbie doll. Love the food, love the main seating area and bar. I found out from our server this is a sister restaurant to Forbes Mill. I no longer go to Forbes Mill for 2 main reasons, the food execution (not food quality) and it is very loud. Tides is the opposite, great execution with high quality ingredients and quite (very high ceiling). Also they serve the same quality steaks and seafood, so really no reason to go to the othern place. The group I was with ordered a bunch of items, I tasted the following: Steak Skewers (4 stars) This was the second time ordering these and they were done consistently,cooked perfectly,tender and with a really good teriyaki glaze. Shrimp Cocktail (4 stars) Perfectly cooked jumbo shrimp, chilled and served with cocktail sauce. Nothing special about the sauce, pretty standard, but the size of the shrimp and quality was really good. Crab Cake (4 stars) The crab was fresh, just the right amount of bread crumbs to hold it together, crispy crust and soft inside, served with aioli. Good stuff! Caesar Salad (4 stars) The romaine was fresh, cut perfectly (not a fan of large leaves you have to cut), the dressing was balanced, not to heavy on anchovy and just the right amount of lemon and cheese. The crouton was good standard stuff, but the addition of parmesan crisps really made the salad stand out. Good stuff! Prime Ribeye (4 Stars) The steak was perfectly cooked to order and well seasoned, much better that Forbes Mill, one of my main gripes is the seasoning. The broccolini, they were serving that night, was perfectly cooked, slight crunch, but not hard, slightly chared and then dressed perfectly. The mash potatoes were very smooth and season right. We asked the server to pick 4 desserts to share, he said he would surprise us. He served us: Pumpkin Cheese Cake (5 Stars) The filling was creamy and flavored perfectly with pumpkin pie spices. The crust was really good too. The Carmel drizzle was a great addition. Carrot Cake (4.5 Stars) Perfect amount of walnuts and raisins to cake, great texture. Then covered with some awesome cream cheese frosting. Love it! Lava cake (3 Stars) and Butter Cake (3 Stars) Normally I would protest ordering these, but we did leave it up to the server. I think that "premade restaurant desserts" are the type of desserts a place like this should avoid. They should really focus on unique handmade desserts, one chocolate based and one non chocolate based. A good pastry chef should have no problem coming up with something. The server was really good this time, explained everything clearly and repeated back to confirm, although he did push the upsell allot which was fine. I think they are working out their service issue. I've added the 5th star due to the improvement in service. I hope they keep it up , as well as the food. I thought the food was actually really tasty and fresh. But my issue was packing of the leftovers. I only ate 1/2 my order of fish and chips, since we also had a seafood tower. Unable to finish, I asked that the remaining could be boxed. When I got home, the only thing in the box was my one piece of fish. None of the fries, which there were a big portion left, nor the cole slaw. Just the piece of fish. Quite disappointing. In the future, maybe teach staff to put everything in the box, or ask what they want to be taken home. read more

Came here for the first time for a friend's bday. I was on time but my party was like 30-40 minutes late, but the restaurant crew didn't make a fuss about it. In fact, the owner and the restaurant staff were so nice and perfect hospitality, so five stars for them! Five stars for the restaurant/ambience as well. Parking was pretty easy too for a Saturday night. I opted for the Shinjuku Sunrise as my threepeat cocktail of the evening. Very good!! Now the food I hate to say was only two-three stars for me. The short rib entree and the lobster pasta entree were the winners of the evening. I felt the appetizers were pretty lackluster and worse were the portions. For the price, apps should've been 3 items minimum, instead of two. As you can see, the crab cakes were just two hush puppy size balls at $19, the scallops were also only two at $27, and the Maine lobster toast had bits of lobster and the bread was not toasty at $26. I can't say that any of them were delicious. The clam chowder was interesting. Not the standard chowder, but rather clams left in the shell with the other chowder fixins and a soup pour over. Again, flavor was just pretty standard. The butter cake was also another disappointment. We had an early dinner before show and got there just before 5 o'clock. The place was almost empty and we were greeted very kindly. We found a high top table in the bar that said reserved on it and the bartender said you can have it with a smile. Everything was done really nicely with kindness and we felt at home. I never give out five star reviews unless once in a while, something really extraordinary crosses my palette. But I could think of no reason why not to give Tides five stars. Everything was exemplary. The ambience was modern, but still managed to be intimate, which is sometimes a difficult thing to pull off. The engaging manager welcomed us as we walked in the front door and said goodbye as we left. He spent several minutes getting the NBA finals basketball game on for us to watch at the bar, which was very nice of him to do. We sat at the bar and were entertained and engaged by an excellent bartender who not only prepared an excellent drink (I can't remember its name but it was a combination of Mezcal, tequila and lemon with a particular type of flower that went combined turn the drink this lovely shade of purple) It was excellent as so, was she.. I started off with the Miyagi oysters which were priced I believe at $1.50 for Happy Hour. The mignonette was excellent and the cocktail sauce was very good. Very nice value and excellent oysters. She also recommended my entrée of the evening, which was the penne with prawns in a vodka-like sauce, but i'm not sure what it was called. I forget the name, but let's just call it penne with prawns. It also had a very nice kick to it, but not an overwhelming kick. Delicious! Really nice place with a varied menu-not just but a really good seafood menu which is pretty rare. Especially as the seafood was good. I had the sea bass. It was tasty but not overpowering refreshing. The butter cake was a nice ender. It wasn't dense but had some fluff. They have nice touches like the butter for the bread wasn't just butter; there was a touch of aioli or truffle. The service with Daniel was amazing. He really knew his menu there. This was so disappointing. I had such high hopes and was looking forward to celebrating my mom's birthday. I made the reservation a month in advance and requested a corner booth table. We typically don't like tables in the middle of the restaurant because there isn't much space. The people at the front desk definitely treated other customers differently based on appearance. They didn't take that into account. In fact, they sat us at the worst round table in the restaurant. There was no space between us and the tables, and we were in the pathway to the kitchen. So for an hour and half, we were hit or kicked by people constantly walking by (servers and customers). They didn't even acknowledge our request until I asked. We were also crammed in this tiny table, when other people got much bigger and spacious sized tables. I gave two stars because the crab cakes and Brussels sprouts were tasty and the staff who were delivering our food or clearing the tables were extremely nice and courteous. Too bad our server wasn't that hospitable. She just rushed us. The entrees - fish and chips were average. The fries were cold. -daily special Arctic Char....so fishy with no flavor. The couscous was supposed to have a citrusy flavor, but there was none and nothing was salted! Zero flavor in the fish and the sides. Looked flavorful, but it wasn't -Black Cod...we have never had a more pathetic or gross black cod. It was so tiny, thin, and mushy! It had the worst fishy taste and I don't know how they managed to have it so gooey and like mush. Must have been an old piece they were trying to pass off to a table they don't see as a more "desirable" table. It was so thin and some parts were just skin and no fish! There was no mention of my mom's birthday, yet we saw other tables being wished happy birthday and their servers were much more attentive. We always order 2-3 desserts at restaurants and we were looking forward to trying some. However, seeing where we were placed in the restaurant and constantly having people hit our bodies and chairs as they were walking by, seeing the quality of the entrees, and seeing how other tables were treated better, we just wanted to get out of there. The Chilean Sea Bass was my favorite, but it was soooo small, I would have left hungry if I didn't end up sharing the pasta dish with my husband.
