The food came out relatively fast, and the standouts were the chicken hibachi, popcorn shrimp, and premium sushi. The restaurant itself was pretty, trendy, and seemed like a cool place to visit, but the food was nothing too special, especially for the price. If you want to take aesthetically pleasing instagram photos that makes it look like you're in an izakaya in Japan this is your place. But if you want actually good food RUN AWAY. We went and got the AYCE premium menu (which is ridiculous that you have to choose the premium for nigiri and sashimi but whatever), and upon seating they give you a paper menu to write down your order. We got their premium box which is like $25 or $26 off of their à la cart menu and while it's super pretty to look at it was disgusting. The Wagyu was thick, slimy, and chewy and made me want to throw up. The toro had wayyyyy too much wasabi in it and felt like torture to eat. The other two pieces were ok but if I paid à la for it I'd be PISSED. The rolls and nigiri and sashimi were a mixed bag, some were okay, some were slimy, and some were just dry. The cooked food was decent but not very flavorful, my siblings favorite dish of the night was the cooked bulgogi which I found to be chewy and you guessed it, flavorless. Service left much to be desired, there's an hour 30 minute time limit on AYCE and you get four rounds total. They take your paper in the back to put in your order and don't bring it back out until all of your order has come out(which fair), but it takes about 30ish minutes per round and having to flag someone down to take your paper back is a pain. I think if they had tablets or maybe a call button that would be better? Unsure. Regardless the food quality needs a major upgrade to make it worth the price. read more

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the hostess! They were extremely sweet! We had a reservation for my brother's birthday and we were seated immediately. The decor was super cute! I always visit the lavatory before seating so I can wash my hands. It was clean and the lavender soap smelled great! On my way back out, I met what looked like the owner. I'm not sure what gave me that impression, but he had a kind aura and (I'm pregnant) and he was asking how I liked the food and was this a pleasant experience. I gave him my finest compliment as there are several options to fill my cravings without eating raw fish! Overall, I would recommend everyone to visit. The slowest service and food delivery. They give you a time limit of 1:30 mins to dine. It's been 50 mins and I'm still waiting for my sushi. Yes the appetizers I ordered came .... And some hot food dishes but I feel like I spent majority of my time waiting for my food. The premium all you can eat sushi is the way to go... If you can eat a ton... you'll have four rounds of kitchen food and sushi/sashimi to your heart's contentment... But the 4 premium nigiri... it was magical! Not Michelin star level... but delightful and the rice served at the perfect temp and cook... I could taste each kernel... beautiful! Plenty of specialty rolls and kitchen food! The spicy pork belly is delicious but it'll fill you up if you don't have a group with you. I think the best thing to do is to come with 4 or more who love to eat and everyone order in agreement and eat a little of every roll and kitchen food. It's just too much for 2 people. Sushi quality wasn't bad and they did somewhat mess up our service last night by forgetting a few items but made up for it and bounced back. Came here for my birthday. When you first walk in, the attention to detail to the atmosphere is amazing. The staff was super helpful to explain the rules of AYCE. The amount of options they have for the food was actually nothing like I've experienced before. Typically you go for AYCE sushi or AYCE bbq/hot pot. This place I think had an amazing balance of Izakaya and the premium sashimi being the show stealers. Yes. There's a max of how much you can order the premium sashimi. We started round 1 with them and they really set the bar for the rest of our experience. As much as we love sushi, my family and I kept wanting to order more of the small plates or the pork belly (my kid had 3 orders of it himself) or the ramen. Everything from the quality of food, to the private dining room, to the service, everything seemed worth the price. Very cute inside. It has separate mini rooms for small parties. It's in a strip mall so don't let the exterior deceive you as it is aesthetic inside. The sushi was fresh and delicious. The fish slices on top of my rainbow roll were pretty thick. I also got the yellowtail ponzu which was a tasty. The only negative is the service is really slow. And the waitress had a really hard time understanding what we were trying to order which was a little odd. But she finally hand wrote the order and didn't get it wrong. Izakaya's seem to be the rage these days as they have a nice combo of Japanese dishes and drinks combined with the Japanese Izakaya look and feel. They did a good job designing the place and there are several private rooms which is a nice touch. A unique aspect of Issho is they offer AYCE sushi...interesting. $40 AYCE on the weekend isn't too bad but AYCE sushi can be iffy as the quality can be suspect. We decide to try the AYCE as you are probably lookkng at $30-$35 per person if you get an entree and an app so why not? Note- you only get 1 order per person of the premium sushi (Salmon Belly, Toro, Yellowtail Belly & Bluefin Tuna) but you can order as much of the standard sushi/sashimi as you like. The sushi and rolls come out pretty quickly and yeah the sushi quality is definitely better than other local AYCE sushi options in Nova. I am pleasantly surprised. I have to say virtually all dishes are tasty - cold soba, seaweed salad, hwe dubap, shumai, miso soup, etc. Issho is a keeper...whether you go AYCE or decide to order off the menu a la carte I think you will enjoy it. I pinned Issho in my 'VA restaurants to try' collection here on Yelp after being recommended to give it a shot from another Yelp Elite. Unfortunately I think I'll pass on visiting again. Here's an overview of my experience. What went well: + parking was super easy + we were seated immediately at their bar area + interior design is really nice. They have private dining areas which I think is nice + tried the Amberjack and Seabream nigiri and they were both tasty + The team did their best to make our experience better + Spicy Yellowtail roll was pretty good, nothing that I would come back for though + Bathrooms were clean and smelled great What was kind of 'meh': + Lots of servers but not the best service. Nice AYCE izakaya and sushi place in Annandale with a cute ambiance and Japanese decor. My friend (who is from Japan) is a repeat customer here, so that should tell you something. The bar has tv screens and had the sports game playing. Christmas music was also playing in the background to get into the holiday spirit. It was easy to find parking in this little strip mall. We made a reservation on Yelp for Saturday lunch. It wasn't busy (Friday and Saturday are also their most expensive AYCE days - about $40 per person). The AYCE is a good mix of sushi and small plates, including bulgogi and pork belly. I was seated right away and the waiter explained the menu to me as a first-time visitor. They have a nice cocktail menu, but it's primarily picture-based, so you'll have to ask the waiter about the particular drink make-ups. We opted for AYCE. They are a little stingy with the AYCE - they have strict ordering rules/limits in place, particularly for the premium nigiri/sashimi. For the premium nigiri/sashimi, it's not AYCE - you get one piece (and it's restricted to the dinner/weekend menu only). I ordered the yellowtail belly as my premium piece and it wasn't anything special. Noticeably missing from the menu was the hotate (scallop), which was crossed out in black sharpie. For the regular nigiri/sashimi, you can order up to six pieces at a time (another safeguard in place to pace ordering). I ordered the tuna, salmon, yellowtail, unagi (eel), and ebi (steamed shrimp). The standouts for me were the salmon and unagi. The sushi had great presentation and the sizes of each piece were generous. I do like that you have the option to order it as nigiri or sashimi, so you aren't forced to fill up on rice (rice is a choice). They do caution against excessive waste/ordering and will add a $5 per person surcharge if food is leftover (another safeguard in place), so only order what you're going to eat. For the rolls, I enjoyed the kabuki (shrimp tempura). We also got the California Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, 007 (shrimp and crab mix based), double crunch tuna, and Tokyo Mama (shrimp tempura and spicy crab mix based). The rolls came out slowly, but it's understandable since they are made-to-order and require skill to roll them nicely (plus I recognize we're not the only table ordering them at this AYCE sushi place). Again, these were good-sized pieces. I didn't feel like they were trying to skimp on the servings (unlike some larger, mass-production, self-serve buffets). Some sushi places give you teeny, tiny pieces, and this was not the case here. The waiter also kindly identified each roll for us when the food was brought to the table. The izakaya plates came out much faster. The izakaya concept is great too because they are small plates, which are perfect for tasting different dishes without filling up or being committed to a whole platter. We ordered the bulgogi, soy chicken, and soy pork belly. I also tried the shoyu ramen and katsu curry. They nailed the katsu curry - I highly recommend. The pork cutlet retained its crispy texture and the curry was smooth and flavorful. You have the option to get it with rice, which would sop up the gravy perfectly. The shoyu ramen was okay. The broth didn't have a deep shoyu flavor and the noodles were a little soft for my tastes. They had nice accompaniments of the fish cake and bamboo shoots. I wish the ramen was served with nitamago... that would've been a game-changer. Service was good. Waters were refilled regularly, and when food was running low, our waiter would check on us to see how things were and if we wanted to place more orders. We got to order food in about three waves, and our waiter regularly checked on us to ask how we liked the food and drinks. As we exited the restaurant, the manager was present and wished us a fond farewell. Amazing! I came here after coming from getting my eyebrows done and I'm so glad I did! This place is another extremely festive and adorably decorative restaurant that has some great food! Because I came in during the Halloween season they had decorations already out. The restaurant menu has a variety of Asian cuisine items: sushi, ramen, noodles of all kinds, and I believe it's called yakitori (sp) basically a variety of meats on a stick. I stuck again to some simple sushi choices or my yellowtail add cream cheese, salmon belly which was so luscious and melted in my mouth, and toro toro tuna roll. All the rolls were so good and I wish I would sauce ordered more to go! Now the drinks I tried weee a lemon drop, lychee martini, mai tai, and a mango drink I believe I can't remember the name. All tasted so fresh and hit the spot! Not a lot of AYCE in Annandale but this spot is a good choice if you don't want to travel outside of Annandale. The mood lighting is pretty relaxing and the parking was easy. The sushi was fresh and I loved the fact that their shoyu bowl and grilled meats are not the biggest but a good portion. Been here a few times dining in. The Katsu Curry has easily become one of my favorite dishes here. Probably the closest to Japanese curry I've taste out here so far. The curry smell gets to me sometimes even though I love Japanese curry. The pork was fried well. The menu labeled it spicy but I didn't think it was spicy at all and I'm pretty sensitive to heat. Yakitori set was mid, nothing special. Everything has the same soy sauce glaze. I liked the spicy powder for dipping. My favorite Yaki was the beef even though it was dry/ overcooked Enoki maki- I also enjoyed this Garlic and ginko- I didn't even eat. I would've loved to try something else instead; I wish I asked to substitute. The ambience to the restaurant pretty nice we got a private room for the party of five and it was a good experience with the waiter and the ambience. Our daughter has a dairy and egg allergy and the waiter was super helpful and helping us figure out what is friend and what wasn't for her. You option is very much worth it. The premium cuts of Nigiri were pretty great even with the limit it was worth it. The ottro was pretty great and Toro the salmon belly were great! The tacos were pretty good, offered a generous portion of fish. The appetizer sampler was alright, pretty mediocre to be honest. I liked the pickles and the spicy octopus. The seaweed and tamago were meh. The chicken hearts and negitori were not bad. Dessert was very inconsistent. We enjoyed a nice meal with friends here. The interior decor does emulate an Izakaya experience. I enjoyed most of the food. The roll didn't wow me and it was pricey. However the nabes (Japanese hot pot) were large portions for a decent price. At least 2 people could share one nabe. Unfortunately noodles are an extra $2.50, and my partner later commented that he wished the noodle portion was bigger given the additional price. Service was good; I personally liked that we were able to enjoy our meal for a solid time without feeling rushed or having staff come by every 20 minutes to check in on us. Came on a Thursday night, and wasn't crowded at all! Our server was sooo kind, friendly, and attentive. Even the manager checked on us. The place is cutely decorated with Japanese posters and decorations. In the middle of our dinner, it randomly got very dim all of the sudden LOL but there are cute little lamps at every table. We got the Truffle Udon, Yakitori Set, Hamachi Kama (yellowtail cheek/jaw), and Beef Belly Nabe. I loved everything except the yakitori. I haven't had any yakitori I loved in this area. They're usually not flavorful enough and no smokiness. Ok, but I dream about the truffle udon. The noodles were a nice chew and bounce. It was more like a stir-fry with subtle truffle flavor. We came on a cloudy and rainy night during the week so decided to get the seafood nabe and yakitori set. The nabe had a flavorful light broth with shrimps and scallops and a mix of tofu, mushroom and vegetables; wish it had more seafood and less cabbage. Yakitori set allowed you to try all seven skewers which were well grilled with a little too much sauce on the bottom of the plate. Next time, we will have to try more sushi and sashimi as I really liked the sushi appetizer! I tried the tako wasabi which had too much salt and jalapeño peppers for my taste so I'm glad they had some salad available. Service was quick and attentive. I appreciated that our waitress took the time to let us know each type of skewer and answered a question we had about the chef's choice for the appetizer sampler. First things first, I absolutely abhor the tipping culture in the US. I was here with my family (party of 4) and we enjoyed a beautiful meal. Since it was lunch, we felt a 15% tip was very reasonable and paid for it with my credit card. However, when I reviewed my credit card bill later, I realized a 18% tip was automatically added by the restaurant instead of the 15% I had signed for. I really wanted to love this restaurant, but dishonest billing is to me unethical. The restaurant is beautiful. It was easy to make a reservation, although there was plenty of space on a Saturday. Very solid all around. We went here for a date night and wanted to focus on sushi. Every roll we ordered was delicious, which rarely happens for me. Many times one of us will prefer something and we'll divide up what's left, but everything was great! Next visit we'll get other items, but it's nice to know the sushi is solid. The service was incredibly friendly. We didn't wait very long before our food was ready. I would say very fairly priced. There are other spots that are definitely more expensive that also try too hard. This place feels like a good balance of aesthetic, well run, and tasty. read more

New to the city, right in the heart of Annandale! The service was great, the hostess and servers were really nice and stopped by often. [Food: 5 out of 5] -Crazy Dragon Roll: tempura shrimp, cucumber with eel, spicy crab, and tobiko on top. Luckily the cucumber wasnt over powering - just a hint of freshness. -Tempura Udon: the udon noodle was cooked perfectly; the broth tasted light and delicious. The dish came with fried (tempura) shrimp, enoki and bell peppers - they were lightly fried and not super breaded. -Katsu Curry: I am not a huge fan of Japanese curry but this dish was sooo good that we had to order an additional plate. The curry tasted perfect and the katsu was hot and juicy. (This dish still tasted delicious even after being microwaved as a leftover). I'm super excited to come back to try their other dishes.. We ordered the Luxury taste in the sushi Taco section. It was a few pieces of fish with seaweed instead of taco shells, for $20. It was worth it. We ordered the Udon, and it was very clean. Not salty or greasy at all. The meals came with miso soup, one plain bowl of rice came with the sashimi platter after a very fresh salad with lettuce and red sliced onions. Walked in with no wait on a Saturday night at 7pm with a party of 4. The restaurant is nicely decorated and we were seated right away and handed menus. The restaurant was not busy, but no one stopped by our table for 10 minutes. We flagged someone down and she took our order and said she would pass it onto our waiter. Our waiter came back with water, but told us they had run out of glasses, so we got 2 glasses and 2 plastic cups. The complimentary miso soup was very sour and we did not drink it because it tasted off. One of our friends spilled her miso soup so we gave her our napkins to clean it. When we asked for more napkins. We received small cocktail napkins. When I asked for normal dinner napkins. They only brought out three for the table of four. I ordered a garlic bomber rice that on the menu said had panko deep fried Berkshire pork loin, onions, eggs, and katsu sauce without onions. I received a fried rice of garlic chips, a braised pork, eggs, katsu sauce and fishcake. Unfortunately people at our table were allergic to seafood so the addition of fishcake was not acceptable. I ordered the katsudon instead and it took so long to come that everyone else had finished their food. Poor experience and I would not come back. read more

I have been here three times already and have gotten the beef belly nabe every single time because it's so tasty! I love the variety in the menu too so I can try a lot of things whenever I'm here and share with people. I like their beef nabe, their sushi rolls, truffle udon (I personally liked the light flavour of it but it may seem bland to others), and yakitori set with seven different skewers (I liked the beef and peppers the best). I've had a don dish here and thought it was okay. I've had their drinks before too and some may be a bit sweet to my liking. The service is quick and attentive, the manager and the rest of the staff are really nice! I like the decor and space in the spot. Happy to say this has become a semi-regular Sunday lunch spot with my sister :) The interior is very well-done and cozy with some pretty ambient lighting. The staff are also very friendly and helpful, and since it's a smaller space you can always be sure the staff can attend to your needs effectively. The food is excellent and at a very reasonable price compared to similar restaurants. All meals start with a small salad. I usually start with the enomaki yakitori (not pictured) as an appetizer. The pork belly and mushroom skewer was delicious and doesn't taste as fatty as you'd expect for pork belly. The salmon belly sashimi was also amazing, very refreshing with that melt-in-your-mouth texture that I love in sashimi. My main dish was the shoyu ramen. I went a little overboard with the appetizers so I was worried the ramen would make me feel lethargic, but the broth was perfect! I would definitely recommend Issho, especially if you're looking for a more intimate experience like a date or catching up with a friend. read more

Vibes were there! The restaurant was beautiful and clean. The waitress was very nice and friendly. The food didn't quite hit for me. If you're coming only get the sushi and sashimi. The tempura was soooooo oily and the sauce had no flavor. It was $26 for oily mush. The yakitori just wasn't worth it. The portion/flavor vs the cost was not worth it. The sashimi really saved our experience. The cuts were really similar and we were hoping for more variety. Unfortunately we won't be back but wish this place the best. read more

A friend recommended this place and I had to come check it out. I was not disappointed! The restaurant itself is beautiful. Loved the seating and flow of the restaurant. The service was excellent our waitress gave us great recommendations. Now let get down to the food. We had the shrimp tempura, garlic edamame, for my main meal I ordered Katsu curry with miso soup and my husband had Kurobuta Tonkatsu. He also ordered peppermint cucumber drink and I had the corn tea. I cannot begin to tell you how amazing this meal was. So tasty and the presentation was beautifully done.
