This place is a fantastic spot for a date night for three solid reasons. 1- great location and good parking available next to a CVS and 7-11. Why are these good you ask, because if you're clever you can extend a date night into more 2- the food is amazing and the restaurant is clean. The service is what to be expected but the chef has a menu of what he recommends 3- if you're on a date they have great seating along the wall that offers privacy and also keeps people from listening in so you can have a good conversation without noisy people to close. I've heard that Ariake Fairfax has the best sushi, and it surpassed it! The sushi was so fresh, and everything from the chefs pick was AMAZING. I didn't know what all the fish were but they were so so good! I have no words. Tip: parking is tight, there's more parking in the back. Be sure to check the signs as there is a lot you cannot park in. Other tip: they don't take reservations so if you want to eat at dinner time they open at 5. Unless you're ok waiting, go when you're not too hungry. We arrived at 5:30 hoping to eat by 6, and although we were seated by 6, for a party of 4, we didn't get our food until much much later. I'll be adding Ariake to my top lists of sushi spots to dine at. Food and service here were absolutely amazing! The Food: Went with the Pork Katsu Curry, Spicy Yellowtail Roll and the Spicy Tuna Roll. The Katsu was crisp and fried nicely. The curry sauce itself was flavorful and absolutely delicious paired with some rice. The sushi was fresh as well. Everything was perfect. The Service/Atmosphere: Plenty of seating available inside. The service is excellent, the servers are friendly, the turnover quick, they are removing finished plates as you finish them throughout the meal and checking your water. Visited Ariake this evening after a day at Great Falls Park. We arrived around 5:45 on a Sunday and we were seated immediately!! We started with the edamame (fresh, but less salty than other places) and the miso soup (extremely flavorful, best miso I've ever had). The warm sake was a comforting drink with our meal - a size large was plenty but the bigger size large might be better for sharing. We went with the classic spicy tuna and salmon rolls - slightly spicier than most other places, which was great for us but beware if you're sensitive to spice. The salmon, eel, and the shrimp tempura roll were all very good. This is the best sushi I've had - very large pieces of fish inside and they were high quality. Perfect texture and balance of flavors. Very fair amount and quality for the price!! A little far from home for us to be regulars, but this will be our new Fairfax treat! read more

I hadn't tried Ariake again for 7 years (and it was the Reston location), and I'm so glad I came back! This location is also very spacious. We started off with one complimentary salad and miso soup to share since it came with just entrees. We got Tonkatsu, and it was delicious! We order a la carte sushi, and it did not disappoint. All the cuts were fresh and generous portion of fish. Maybe too little sushi rice tbh, but not complaining too much! My favorites are usually salmon, scallop, fatty tuna, and uni. We walked in for dinner on a weekend around 6pm and it was packed (about a 15min wait) which is a good sign that it's worth it. When we were seated, they already had placemats and the server came around very quickly for our order. There's also staff walking around constantly refilling waters so you don't have to flag anyone down. Also, there's the open kitchen area where you can see the sushi made in front of you. They initially brought out free salad that consisted of lettuce, carrots, and a light sauce. For appetizer we got pork cha-shu, which I didn't try as I don't eat red meat but my party enjoyed it. They said the meat was soft/tender and the sauce was sweet and flavorful. For entrees we ordered curry with breaded chicken over rice, and there was a side of salad with mayo and some veggies. The other entree was a noodle dish (I don't remember the name unfortunately) but the little bit I tried to taste had the right amount of oil, saltiness, and a bit of sweetness, and the veggies and chicken were well cooked. The restaurant was clean, loud due to other patrons, and service was good. Due to how busy they were, it did take a while for us to get our food. I did enjoy seeing the sushi chefs in front of us making our order! We came here in a large party of 10 for dinner on a Thursday night. I ordered some specialty rolls, assorted sashimi, assorted nigiri, and shrimp tempura. Everyone got a miso soup and salad to start out. The fish were all very fresh. I really enjoyed the assorted nigiri. The tempura udon was nice and light. Our server messed up a few times with not getting all of our table's orders and hearing the orders wrong. The manager came up to apologize and said the sake would be on the house. The server also came to apologize and brought out mochi ice cream on the house. The mochi part of the mochi ice cream was hard and not soft, chewy like they should be. They tasted as if they're old and have been sitting in the freezer for too long. The restaurant is one big room without any dividers/walls. The ambiance is a typical sushi restaurant nothing too glamours very mellow, which I don't mind. Onto the food, their toro power roll is incredible, their sashimi all taste and feel fresh. We did the omakase recently, enjoyed it quite a lot. The only issue I had with the omakase was that we weren't informed about the additional charge for hand roll, uni roll. We didn't request them because we assumed they came with the omakase but it was an additional charge, which is why I wish they would have told us, so we could have ordered it alongside the omakase. So busy busy! And for good reason, this place is solid. The price is fair for the quality offered. Some places charge $17-18 a roll and the sushi is just mid. This place charges $15 for premium rolls and around $10 for regular rolls; that pricing is amazing in this economy! We got sat very quickly, and our server was so attentive and friendly. We ordered two specialty rolls: the Florida roll and the Toro Power roll. These were SO fresh and tasty! You could taste how high-quality their protein selections were. I highly recommend both! For main entrees, we ordered the Assorted sushi plate, and the Chicken Teriyaki Dinner Bento box. Re-habbed Pizza Hut turned sushi spot. We recently added Ariake to our family's favorite rotating list of restaurants due to their large menu that includes both Japanese dinner classics and delicious sushi/sashimi options. The staff here is super kind and well adept at working with kids/large groups. My husband LOVES (literally dreams) about the chicken katsu curry, I love any and all of the sushi options, and my children are fans of the teriyaki salmon. Pro-tip, you can order a lunch portion of salmon for dinner that is just plain rice and salmon and it is the perfect amount for two omega-3 loving kids. After hearing that good reviews of Ariake's sushi quality, decided to make a trip to Fairfax for dinner. Arrived around 6PM on a Saturday night and it was PACKED. I believe the front house said that the wait was around 45 minutes but then luckily a space for 2 at the bar opened up so we were seated within 10. We started off with ordering a toro power roll to share and decided on 2 orders of the 12 piece chef's choice nigiri. As we were waiting for our food, we were given a side salad and some miso soup. Pretty standard tasting and felt good to snack on while waiting. Momentarily, we received the toro power roll and it definitely lived up to the hype. The tuna melted upon first bite and the quality was so fresh. I loved how the inside of the roll was negi tuna style while added to the melt in your mouth. We inhaled the roll in no time and frankly it lived rent free in our heads for the rest of the night. Took about 20 minutes from when we ordered before the nigiri came out but for some reason only one came out. Took some time to flag a server down because the place was packed but once we did, we found out a second order was never placed. Slight inconvenience since we wanted to eat the platter simultaneously but we just shared the single platter in the meantime before the other one came out. For $33.50, I thought the 12 piece was pretty value. There was a good variety of fish and seafood options on the plate. My favorites were the unagi (melted!!), the fish that I honestly couldn't decipher (5th from top row). Tuna and salmon were good but I've had better and wasn't too big of a fan of the chewier pieces (shrimp, squid). Given the toro power roll was still in our thoughts, we put another order in to end the night. This time around, it actually tasted different and didn't melt in our mouth as previously experienced. Took a closer look and I noticed the tuna on the instead was whole so the texture of the roll completely changed and was more chewier than before. It was still good but not as enjoyable as we first had it so not sure which is the correct version of the dish? We left stuffed and content with our meal. Would recommend for anyone wanting good quality sushi at reasonable prices. Still conflicted over the toro power roll and its true composition.
