good prices, sophisticated interior, and the most friendly staff. I love stopping by for their avocado and sweet potato rolls.

Great hidden Sushi restaurant in Fairfax. It is near a movie theater, too. We ordered the sushi boat combo #2. For appetizers, we got dumplings and cucumber salad. The price of our entire meal was pretty fair. We will definitely be coming back for sure.

Overpriced, sub par quality and portions. Undercooked and underwhelming. Mixing raw with hot food.

Yamachen offers a fairly simple menu with straightforward prices. The ambiance is so cute! What I enjoyed, the different combo deals. It makes it easy to select options and try two rolls for a reasonable price. We tried the shrimp tempura app and it was yummy! The complimentary edamame was also a great way to start the meal. The sushi is ok- I wouldn't say it's the best sushi but the flavors were good. For budget sushi, this is a great place. Loved the service, food, and price.

I've been here a few times, and I love how affordable it is. They give you so much extra on the side, including edamame, spring rolls, and cheesecake. Service is quick, and I love the decor in this place. It makes each booth feel really private.

We came here for Valentine's this year with a reservation. We had to wait 6-7 minutes to be seated even with a reservation. We ordered 2 rolls, some sashimi, and a bowl of ramen. It took about 30-40 minutes for the food to come out. I'm not sure why because it wasn't too crowded since all parties there were couples (no big groups). The rolls were good, but the sashimi were subpar, not as fresh as other sushi places I've been to, and some were a bit watery like it had just thawed after being frozen. They also don't have nigiri options. The ramen was not very good. The broth was bland and lacked that rich pork broth flavor. At the end of the meal, the server gave us 2 cheesecake samples, a rose, and a decorative plaque that lights up with their restaurant name on it, which was sweet of them. Overall, the food was subpar and I would not return.

I came here for Valentine's dinner, and the service was spectacular! We ordered 3 rolls, and they served us strawberry cheesecake for dessert, and gifted us a 3D love heart lamp and a rose! While eating, I overheard them agree to help another man surprise his significant other with roses and balloons when they brought out their order! They are doing the most for Valentine's Day and I'm here for it!

Service was friendly and swift (we were there for a rather late Saturday lunch, and alone in the restaurant). The sushi was presented in a particularly attractive fashion. However, the sushi was disappointing. Again, I like these folks... but am not a big fan of the food.

This restaurant is SO under rated. We went in for Lunch on a Saturday and the prices were so good for how much food you receive. They even gave us some free appetizers and desserts to try since we hadn't been in before. The service was AMAZING and our server was so attentive and kind. The inside of the restaurant is very cute and they give you these cute little chopstick sets with napkins and even a QR code to their menu. This is great for a lunch with friends or dinner. Would highly recommend the spring rolls I have NEVER had any so fresh and delicious. I eat a lot of Asian food and this place really does a great job balancing quality and price.

Came here on a Friday night and there was plenty of seating. We were instantly greeted and sat upon arrival. The waitress was very attentive and kind. Their food selection was great, they had many options. We ordered one of their specials, which included multiple courses. The fried rolls, dumplings, and sushi rolls were delicious! We had no complaints! Although this is a smaller restaurant they really surprised me with how detail oriented they were and the overall ambiance. Can't wait to revisit!

Side note.. I love this shopping center. It's a really great way to spend a couple of kid free hours. A Marshall's, Ulta, DSW and the largest Hallmark store. Yes! Back to the sushi. Holy hygiene, this place is spotless and so clean. They give you your utensils in an unopened package which is a great touch. Service is impeccable, they are so nice, quick and just overall amazing. They bring you edamame as soon as you sit down. Sushi was great (zero complaints). The real star of my lunch was the 2 free spring rolls they bought to my table. They were so crunchy and the filling was delicious. They also finished the meal with a little baby cheesecake for free

We ordered take out and our meal was neat and nicely packaged! The beef yakisoba was filling and flavorful, the spicy pork katsu was good, but we didn't taste the spice, and the sushi rolls were nice flavorful bites. Our meal came with edamame and some fried veggie rolls on the house!

I dined at YamaChen's on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at around 6:30 pm. First impressions: I liked the unique, Japanese interior design. The wooden finish didn't look tacky or outdated and thought it added to the dining experience. I thought the sushi was larger than average, which quickly made it very fulfilling in an slightly unpleasant way. Others who like a good size sushi may beg to differ. However, presentation was nice and the rolls were rolled properly. The flavors were pretty good. Besides sushi, YamaChen also has a variety of other dishes including ramen and yakisoba. Service was very friendly and the food came out quickly for a busy night. I would recommend and will return to try their other sushi variants and ramen.

The bad thing about Genki Izakaya is how crowded it can be. I'm not sure I would show up without reservations again. I've been there 3 times, the first time we didn't have a reservation and the hostess seemed very hesitant to add us to the wait list. She said the waitlist was very long. We decided not to wait. The second time we also didn't have a reservation and the hostess again seemed very hesitant to add us to the wait list. This time we did wait and were quoted 1.5 hours and it actually took about an hour. Not as bad as quoted but still busy! Third time we finally had a reservation and it still took us 20 mins to get seated as they did not have a table ready for us. To be honest the restaurant itself seems too small, they probably could be twice as big. The reason is the food at Genki Izakaya is in my opinion the best of the 3 Izakayas in the area. The Yakitori is good, hot and reasonably priced although I wish they would let you customize the $20 Yakitori Platter. I tried the A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Hot Stone and was surprised that they cook it for you instead of you cooking it yourself on the hot stone. The waiter overcooked 2 pieces of the Wagyu which is annoying when it is so expensive but overall it tasted great. I like their Tonkotsu Ramen, it broth tastes great and I've had ramen all over this area, in New York City, LA area, Tokyo and Kyoto. It isn't the best I've ever tasted but it is really good especially for this area. Once seated the service is good and the food comes out quickly and everything we've had has tasted great. The only problem is how crowded it can be because its so popular! Only bad thing for us is it isn't too close about a 45 min drive but worthwhile - definitely try it if you like Izakayas and Japanese food.

We used to be exclusively Ariake stans but this place takes the cake. As soon as we walked in I felt like I was transported to Japan. The smells, the decor, the low-key-ness. We ordered the maguro with mountain yam, tempura, a bunch of nigiri, and one roll. The tempura is as it should be (and it's so hard to see it done right here in the states). Crispy and light. We liked it so much we ordered another plate. They also give Japanese sized portions (not American) so it's easy to eat as a light appetizer. The nigiri was the star of the show. We ordered our favorite pieces a la carte (there were a few fish that weren't available like kanpachi and chutoro so we changed it for other pieces). The fish to rice ratio is INSANE. Super thick cuts and perfectly formed nigiri. I also loved the fact that the chef torches the eel in our tobiko eel avocado roll. Gave it an extra depth of flavor. Also we keep forgetting but we can ask for our salmon nigiri to be torched! Will definitely do that next time. I love the hole-in-wall vibe and the fact that it's like a family run restaurant. The wife and husband were speaking Japanese to each other and my boyfriend felt like he was back home. Can't recommend enough! Pro-tip hit up the froyo shop next door for dessert.

It's the kind of place built for convenience -- quick in-and-out, well packed, and still hot by the time you get home. Ideal for weeknight dinners when cooking isn't happening and you want something dependable without a long wait. Menu Size: The menu is extensive -- classic, old-school Chinese takeout style with plenty of combination plates, lunch specials, and chef's specialties. Lots of variety across chicken, beef, pork, seafood, and vegetable dishes, plus the usual appetizers and sides. Good option for groups or families with mixed preferences because everyone can find something familiar. Chicken: The chicken dishes are the highlight. Portions are solid, and the chicken is tender with good breading-to-meat balance in the fried options. Sauced dishes are well coated without being overly heavy, and the flavors come through clearly rather than tasting generic. Whether you go sweet, savory, or spicy, the chicken plates are consistently satisfying and feel like the safest bet on the menu.
