Was looking for a lean place to eat this past weekend that wasn't over crowded with valentine couples. Not familiar with Morgantown all that much even though we've been there several times and live in the state. Was excited to find this spot because I knew the meat would be spiced with all kinds of delicious seasonings. You could smell the coal and the meat as soon as you pulled in. Everything was amazing and the guys working there were f'ing awesome. Baklava was incredible along with everything else we ordered. I have 3 kids and they all loved the food. Our first time ordering from here did not impress. The "main course" lamb gyro plate consisted of approximately 80% rice by weight and was accompanied by a small portion of lettuce salad with some kind of sauce on it and a pita. The lamb was dry and both lamb and rice were flavorless. The sauce was the consistency of water. No feta cheese or olives as shown in photos on Yelp. My partner had the falafel plate and while the falafels themselves were excellent as was the hummus, there's too much flavorless rice included, again with the watery sauce and lettuce salad, no feta cheese or olives. We ordered our food by phone and they said it would be apx 1 hour. When we arrived to pick it up, they let us know that they were out of boxes and that it could be another 1-2 hours. They did not mention that when we ordered. We finally gave up on the portion of our order that was not boxed and ordered from somewhere else for those who did not get their order. What a fiasco. Please please please give this place a chance! I knew I was coming back to have more food even before I opened my to-go box. The man working was so kind! He new I was a first time customer and handed me a paper menu and we discussed what kind of food I like. He then proceeded to circle all the menu items he think I'd like in addition to showing off the lamb in the food case. I would love to go back and sit down for food someday, too! You're probably waiting to hear about the food though! Boy was it good. The dolma was perfectly wrapped and tasted so good with the olive oil. The main dish was also Amazing. We were in town for work and didn't think we would ever find halal food in Morgantown. Not only did we find this place but it was so satisfying. The food tasted fresh and homemade and the kitchen was so clean (coming from someone highly sensitive about this issue). Non-greasy, high quality meat. The service was also great and reminded us of back home. I got the chicken shish sandwich and my husband got the ali nazik. Both great. The food was quite tasty, and authentically prepared. All three of us felt it was comparable to the cuisine we enjoyed while in Turkey. Prices were reasonable. The dining room was nicely decorated and clean. Service was mixed. The staff were friendly, but our appetizer came once we were well into the main course. One of us went without a refill of hot tea for most of our time there. Wow, wow, wow! Came with my sister-in-love and nephew. We had hummus with pita, greek salad, Iskender kebab and chicken shish. Everything was exactly as it should be, spiced perfectly and served by kind, attentive waitstaff. The feta on the Greek salad was very tasty, portions are generous, the hummus homemade, the pita served fresh and hot, the yogurt on the Iskender kebab platter a perfect compliment to the spiced tomato sauce. Stopped here for a quick meal after a workout at the WVU Rec center. Picked due to close proximity. Ordered lamb shish , grape leaves and chicken gyro. Lamb was tender and tasty and my teen son loved the chicken gyro (which was JAM packed with chicken.) Compared to Cairo 2 Gos Chicken Shwarma Wrap the Gyro was larger, more densly filled. The rice side dish was perfectly cooked and tasty. Dining experience was simple, not fancy reminiscent of entering a small family owned eatery in a NYC burrough. We will definitely order takeout in the future for the Gyros! Looking forward to trying the baklava next visit. read more

What an amazing find! We came to Morgantown for a basketball game and if we return it will DEFINITELY be to eat at Istanbul! The falafel is the best we've had anywhere. Please order it. We asked the owner/chef for recommendations and he thought we should try Iskender Kebab. The meat was so tender, so mildly flavorful and the sauce was incredible. It has small pieces of toasted pita underneath and that made for a unique and delicious bite. We also ordered Beyti, because he said it had a little touch of heat. It was also very good! It breaks my heart that we live in South Carolina; if we lived anywhere close we'd gladly make the drive. The owner is gracious and kind.
