This iStorage location is great. My dad and I have a couple units here. Al is an outstanding manager and super helpful. We were on a time crunch to get a specific size unit for something we had coming in, and Al was more than helpful and we got exactly what we needed and just in time. I'm also pretty sure this was the only storage unit location to bother plowing (at least a car-width path) after a recent snow. They are higher than other places in the area, but it has been very much worth it. read more

This is the absolutely worst storage company that I've ever dealt with. It used to be Uncle Bob's Storage at 8117 Timberlake Rd. I moved my stuff into this storage facility at the end of July 2023. I mainly went with them for the best deal in the shortest amount of time. But the place is dark and creepy at night. On top of that, they had a ceiling light that was out for months and was still out the last time I entered my storage unit. But what really took the cake is that they inserted a rodent trap box inside of my unit, without my permission or even notifying me. I confronted the manager (who is now long gone) about this because I was taken aback by this thing being inside of my storage unit. I knew SOMEONE had to put it in there. I knew I had a lock on my unit, and I was the only one who had a key to the lock. And I always kept a lock on my unit. She told me that the company that they use puts these boxes in the units through a slot from the outside of the building. At this time, it was one dead mouse in the box. About a month later, when I talked to her again, I told her that the same dead mouse was still in that box in my unit She told me that they change the boxes out once a month. I thought to myself, "Then it should be changed for sure the next time that I go in there." WRONG. The next time I went into my storage unit, there were two dead mice in the box, but no storage manager was available for me to complain to. Before this lady left the company, she was always gone. She had a pleasant attitude, but she just wasn't there. My storage bill is due on the 25th and when that time came up in March, I made my mind that I was go I going to demand her to do something about that box because those two dead mice were stinking up my storage unit. I got a sign on the office door that the office was closed. I decided that I was not going to pay my money for a unit stinking with decomposing rodents. After 5 days, of course, they add a $30 late fee. Before this craziness occurred, I had been late before, but I just paid the late fee because it was due to my own schedule and life's activities. This is something TOTALLY different. When I spoke with the other storage manager, he acted as if he couldn't comprehend what I was reporting to him about the rodent box that had been inserted into my unit. After talking with him for what seemed like forever, he acts like he finally understood, tells me to call the call center, to make a complaint, and escalate my request. When I did that, they man that I spoke with was quite flippant and tried to insinuate that I was making this up so I would have to pay my storage bill. That infuriated me. I had to point out to him that it I had been paying for this unit since last July and that his gist made no sense. Fast forward to now, they have not done anything since April 16th when I complained. I was given a complaint reference number just for no one to follow up with me. I had to do the foll-up. And the other storage manager, Al, is still telling the customer service agents that I put the rodent box in my own unit after admitting to me when I showed him the picture that it was definitely a box that the company they hired uses. These people are insane! Getting an attorney would defeat the purpose. So, I will definitely be getting my stuff out of there and going with a decent professional storage facility. You get what you pay for. Anyone reading this, go somewhere else! And yes, I would give it a zero, too, if I could. read more

I would give this place a ZERO if I could. Moved in October 2021 and one of the two doors we have was not functionally properly. After filling my storage fully, the same door didn't work at all. I've been trying to get the facility to fix the doors as I have to move out and in of the unit completely to get something at that end. The management could care less and keep stating "we've been trying to get a door company out". I sent comments to the customers service link on their site three weeks ago and no reply. Just called their corporates site and the only thing the said is " we will put a ticket in". Stay away from this company. They are awful! Also, they state their site is safe and secure but this fence (see photo) that was hit by a driver four months ago, is still not fixed and anyone can get into the facility. read more

iStorage - Self Storage Near Me - Lynchburg, Virginia

They have done nothing to upgrade security for tenants. My sister and I share multiple units and have had at least two break-ins. Also they block key security camera angles with large U-Haul rental trucks. Not to mention that the facility has serious health hazards in the form of fiberglass dust as a result of failing insulation that was not properly mitigated. read more

The managers -Al and Patsy were so helpful to me when we had to move all of out things from California to Lynchburg..they helped us work through all the logistics! If you think iStorage will be any better than they were as Simply Self Storage, you're going to be greatly disappointed! I had been with Simply and left because my rent had increased three times in 18 months to double the rate it was for years before they purchased Uncle Bob's. I was thrilled as signs changed last year indicating Simply was done and there was a new player in town, so when my need for storage came up again, I gave iStorage a try. After all, not only were they convenient, but they were the cheapest around too! Boy, was I fooled! Of course they were the cheapest, because they are up to their old tricks again! First, I asked the staff specifically about the transition to iStorage and if the company is any better. The woman looked around and said "It's exactly the same" and that whatever my experience was prior, would be no different. Uh oh! I was already worried. Then, she shows us to our 5x5 unit. It's nothing more than a large unit with a subdivided wooden shed inside. I've never seen anything like it before. Because it had a roof on it, half of the clearance of the building is inaccessible to the three renters I share that larger unit with. Translation: our 7' tall Christmas tree won't fit in there. But all of that was fine. The staff is friendly, the place is mostly pretty clean, and even the weird unit wasn't enough to deter us. However, it only took a couple weeks for things to start going south. We receive an ominous email regarding our "expired" insurance and nearly threatened us to purchase their insurance in order to continue being customers. I replied back stating we had provided a copy of our renters insurance declaration page, which was most certainly not expired, when we rented. I even included a PDF of that page in the email. I never received a response. It would have been nice to hear something from them. But, whatever. Then after only being a customer for two months, today we received another wonderful email that proves you can change a sign out front, but it's clear you haven't changed anything in your business model. After less than 90 days, our rent is increasing more than 15% over the "best rate" that caused us to choose them in the first place. It's a bait and switch, basically. iStorage is a crooked company. Plain and simple. If you do a simple google search, you're going to find plenty of other reviews where customers say the same thing: multiple increases in under 2 years. They bank on the fact that over 90% of their customers will just accept their constant increases. Sure, they won't like them, but storage customers rarely make a stink or, even worse, ever dare to leave. Well, this is one customer who isn't afraid to leave and who most certainly will. Again. For the same reason I left your predecessor. I'm all for capitalism, but only in a manner in which the integrity with which you treat your customers is more important than an extra penny on the dollar... a methodology lost on this company. read more
