Great food! The Fra Diablo was spicier than I expected, but to my liking. The chicken marsala was "the butteriest, richest marsala" my boyfriend had ever had. I don't usually care for marsala too much, but I am definitely getting it next time. The chicken alone was plump and moist enough to envy, and I was enjoying my dish. We split a bottle of cabernet, which we enjoyed, and we started the meal of with bruschetta, which was very good. The service was decent, but it's no fine dining experience. The server forgot the garlic knots (BLASPHEMER!), and the wine service was amateur, but honestly, it wasn't at all bad. I've worked in fine dining, so I can be a little critical of the small things, but I'm also not about to take such small discretions out of the tip. The server was pleasant and helpful, and that was all I needed. Overall, I'm sure we'll be back. The food is great, the price is worth it, the service is decent, and the atmosphere is all right. I like the food. I tried the Leonardo Chicken and found it to be cooked to perfection, with the right amount of sauce, angel hair, and proportions for the money. I really liked the topping on the chicken, and the way the chicken was cooked, moist, thoroughly cooked, and super flavorful and savory. Very impressive for the money. Honorable mention for their house salad vinegrette, which is different, only slightly tangy, and ever more slightly creamy, just a slight touch. That really grabbed my attention. The garlic butter rolls needed olive oil and seasoning, but that was my fault for ordering out. The staff was quick to prepare, and very hospitable. I will definitely be returning for another bite! Do not be fooled by the unassuming presence along a strip mall. I barely noticed this as I drove by, but that changed once I stepped inside. The atmosphere is cozy and warm, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the food is the best Italian that you will find for miles. I ordered the Fra Diavolo and was warmed from the spice. This was not an overwhelming hot plate, but the sausage gave a great warm flavor. The service staff is very friendly. Pretty sad. Not one of the servers smiled. They acted put out when we asked for a table that did not rock. Asked if the Margharita pizza had sauce. It says on the menu and website that it came with no sauce, sliced fresh tomatoes, garlic and olive oil, so that is what we ordered. Pizza came with sauce(tasted like tomato paste no spices), no garlic, no olive oil. Asked the server, she told us after checking in the kitchen that he changed it. This is an unusual post for me considering how much we attended this restaurant. However, I just know this was something I had to share. Leslie was our waitress and although shes never full of light or very polite I was in shock with our service from her. We had a total of nine guests which is normal for my family and I. So wouldn't you think that she would be on her A game? HAHA which was hardly the case. I ordered spinach dip, once it arrived my mom make a funny (completely accurate) comment saying. "Hey is that your snack?" I replied, "Yes my $10 snack size." Just being playful and laughing the waitress was coming over at that time. I shared the story with her and she found it less than amusing.... uh OK lady. So now our meals are starting to come out. Salads first. I always get the Italian dressing because its homemade and i'm a sucker for a good dressing. However, as I was almost half WAY trough using my bread to soak up the delicious dressing I stopped in a GASP! There was a 4 inch hair in the middle of my salad. (attached picture) Disgusting to say the least. As my sister mentioned it to the waitress, Leslie calmly (with out expression or care) said oh sorry would you like another salad? I was trying to be understanding and so I replied "No Thank You." Meal time. So another reason I love coming to Little Italian Cafe is for the freshness and "piping hotness" of the food. LOL. I ordered the crespolini (not sure i spelled that right). As Leslie brought it over to my side of the table she reaches right in between my dads lap to get to me. I mean seriously girl if you are going to be in the field of customer service don't you think you should be doing just that? I'm not sitting her hoping for a free meal ( which that didn't happen). I've never been the one to have my hand out for anything. Being in this industry my entire adolescent life (thus far)i understand it can been challenging dealing with all kinds of people and sometimes we might have a bad day. With that being said, us as servers and individuals need to understand the importance of the job description. I would have expected the manager to come over and apologize for the matter, but unfortunately that never once happened. It almost appeared like my feelings or experience didn't matter to the staff. As I do realize though, she could have easily not said a word to her staff and or workers therefore, resulting in my post here on YELP. So there you go people. Food is usually always good. I was really hoping to find a diamond in the rough here, when looking for a late night bite in the 2920 area after 9pm, but I just wasn't wowed like some other yelpers were. The service was one of the better aspects of the dinner for me. For the prices here, this should be a given anyway. My waitress was fairly attentive, without being overbearing. Although I was never offered parmesan cheese or crushed red pepper for my entree. I ordered the lasagna and mussels (since apps were half-price). The mussels came out first, then shortly after the dinner rolls, and then right before the entrée came, the salad arrived. The mussels are served in a bowl and are resting atop a diced tomato sauce, which was not spicy or anything and had an okay flavor. They were a little salty and I think the ones at Carrabba's are larger and better tasting. The garlic knotted rolls were just okay. I didn't really care for them or think they were anything special. The salad (or salad dressing) which many rave about comes on a cold salad plate, which typically means it was prepared hours before I ever arrived at the restaurant. The Italian dressing on the salad was average tasting. This no frills salad seemed to be a bagged salad mix, with a couple cucumber slices and 2-3 cherry tomatoes added. Again, nothing special here. The lasagna arrives to the table in a baked dish, resting on another plate and is very hot at first. Overall, it had a pretty good taste and I noticed the pasta was pretty tender, tasted fresh and possibly homemade, although I'm no pasta expert. I was able to finish about 3/4 of the lasagna. Not the best I've had, but certainly not the worst. One negative I noticed is that the floors probably make the place get pretty loud. there were only about 4 other customers when I arrived, but it was already kind of loud. I can only imagine how loud it can be with a full house. It was getting late, and I really didn't even look at the rest of the menu, I just ordered quickly. Wanted a simple Italian Dinner but since I SERIOUSLY was mistreated at the last location I was just at (F-Bomb Pizza) DO NOT GO THERE!!!!...They are seriously prejudious and disrespectful people.... I went home loaded up the family and came here! OMG, I just found a hidden gem! (Doesn't that how it usually how it happen?) ....and they found a customer for life when we need an Italian Fix....We had Custom Pizzas, Baked Ziti, Pasta and Shrimp in a Nice Cream Sauce. Let's talk about pizza. Damn good pizza. So damn good it was a struggle to leave the rest after having two slices because I knew I wanted to have some tomorrow. This Medium Margherita pizza is more comparable to a large dominos/papa johns/Pizza Hut size. Now that is where any further comparison of this pizza to the big three ends. The crust is perfect. All the way through the pizza, that first bite is just as awesome as the end crust is. The crust also won't dry out before you make it to the end. Points for that. And really ... olive oil and basil? No tomato sauce on this Italian classic? GOOD. Brilliantly well done. And the mozzarella was beautiful and the tomatoes tasted as if I found them growing on a vine at like 2pm today. So damn fresh. Eaten here twice both times food was good. I ordered the lasagna with a salad. The meat was a little saltier than what I'm use to but was still good especially paired with the tomato sauce and herb dinner rolls. Nom nom nom! On a whim i ordered the chocolate cake. Late night studying never tasted so good. Small con: the set up is a little confusing. Came here a couple of times, and I must say I like this little spot. It's not the best Italian food I've ever tasted, but it's not bad either. Their customer service and classic jazz music totally sets the stage for an inviting environment. Both occasions we tried their margherita with added pepperoni, and it's pretty good. I like the fact that the crust is not too thick which is a plus. Next, we had their house salad, in which I love the "Italian" dressing. We also tried the baked ziti and kid's ravioli, but my son wasnt too pleased with that. I must say that it had a-bit-too much oregano or basil in it. But the baked ziti was good and very cheesy. :D Of course the meals came with the garlic knots which reminded me of a place I've grown to love in Atlanta called Ippolito's and they are known for theirs, but these weren't bad either. For dessert I tried the mouse cake which was DELISH. I was surprised because it was chocolate and chocolate cake is not always moist. In this case, it was delectable. Everything from beginning to end was phenomenal, had a party of 9, reservation went off without a hitch and we were waited on very well. Attentive and precise, the food was to die for! So much care and you could tell they really loved making the dishes, everyone immediately sighed a moan of relief knowing the dish was going to be great from beginning to end. When the waitress asked how is everything, the whole table responded in unison "delicious". The prices were great, (my family of four was fed with dessert for 62 and some change). There are few times in life when you capture the greatness of the restaurant. This was one of those nights. The atmosphere and local folk is something exceptional that you would not expect in a small shopping center location. The decor and the lighting set a romantic mood. However, if you brought the family it would be quite pleasant as well. As i waited to be seated I gazed at all the other entrées around me to narrow down my choices.The chicken Parmesan caught my eye and to my surprise was soon caught in my belly. I ate (in my mouth) great big juicy meaty bites of mouthwatering meat so tender and yummy you will want to eat that every night for the rest of your life. The lasagna and chicken Parmesan were exceptional-the chef is a mastermind! Even the garlic balls melt in your mouth with such elegance and ease you will want to order another round...and another. Our waitress, Amanda, was just delightful- like a mayor of pasta town in which we paid a visit. She guided us through our journey and recommended a most excellent red Chardonnay to accompany my meal. We ate and ate and ate until we were satisfied ...and yet still we had leftovers. With my heart and belly fully content, I thank you Italian café for the wonderful experience of a lifetime. As those that have gone before me have said...this place is a small and quaint Italian restaurant. The place is extreme clean and there is a window where you can see into the kitchen. I like this -- you are able to see your food being prepared, freshly. The food is fresh and is of good quality. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. While I love the place, my only gripe was with my to-go order. I showed up in person and placed a to-go order. I was fully prepared for it to take a long time. In any case, my order was taken quickly. The waitress also came back with my ticket within a minute or so. I filled out the receipt and left a good tip, even though it was a to-go order. As more time passed, I just sat there. At such a small intimate restaurant, I would expect the waitress to offer some kind of drink - I would also expect to pay for it. Instead, no offer. She just kept on with what she was doing. I ended up recalculating gratuity with the spare receipt to account for the lack of attention. My experience doesn't take away from my thoughts of the place -- the food is good and I would still go back. I got recommendations from our neighborhood Moms FB group on family owned restaurants to support during the Coronavirus quarantine and since we love Italian food we decided to give the Italian Cafe a try. We ordered 2 pizzas, one Supremo and one Classic Italian, 2 kids spaghetti with a meatball and an extra side of pasta with marinara The pizzas were huge on New York style crust and were delicious and fresh. The kiddos loved the spaghetti with a meatball and enjoyed the bread as well. We will definitely be ordering from here again! read more
