It was obvious the red sauce was not from a jar, but had been prepared like mama used to make. My wife has some allergy issues and they were able to accommodate her no problem. Don't bother ordering from them on GrubHub. I ordered at 6:04pm and it said it should be delivered around 6:45. That came and went and at 7:00pm I called them. They told me it was en route. I said ok thanks. 30 minutes later it's still not here and I call them again. The guy tells me it's en route. I tell him it's been en route for 30 minutes now and your restaurant is 2 minutes away. He says "well actually it probably hasn't left the kitchen yet because we're backed up." So essentially they lied to me the first time when they said it was on its way. Met a few friends for dinner on Thursday night. What a wonderful experience! Nice and friendly with atmosphere! Our server Adara was outstanding! She knew when to approach and when to let us be! Her appetizer suggestions were incredible!!!! Their bruschetta was so flavorful, it was gone first! The garlic cheese rolls yummy too!! The bow tie chicken pasta excellent! Food is outstanding and the garlic cheese rolls are a great starter. The Mama Mia is a "must have". They also have a few good gluten free options if you need to order a those. Both a pasta and pizza. Our server Sara was great and food came out quickly. She shared her favorites along with the more popular dishes on the menu. We also ordered delivery a few weeks later and it arrived pretty quickly. It's not the fanciest inside but don't let the casual interior fool you. This place is favored by the locals so you know it's good. It's been there as long as I can remember. One of the few times I'm letting the food speak for itself and not factoring in much for the ambiance. Dog friendly which was why we selected to eat hear after our daily walk in San Clemente where we usually hit up Avila's but opted for a change up! Not sure how all their good is but we had the Penne mama Mia, the meat lasagna, cheese bread with marinara sauce and s bottle of their cab! Call me SupaHotFire, because I'm about to end this place whole career. This might be the worst Italian restaurant in San Clemente. I went with a couple of friends and immediately upon entering the staff was extremely rude to us. No one was in the restaurant except my party and I'm guessing our servers extremely loud and obnoxious family. One of my party members went to the restroom, and one of the servers kids was shitting with the door open! The food was absolutely terrible. The pasta was hard and tasted gross. One of my party members had chicken parmigiana that was completely burnt to a crisp. The staff continued to be rude, and not attentive at all. I will never return to this place. What a terrible (short) experience here. So disappointing. This is a review for the service only. I purchased a Groupon which indicated in the title that it was for the San Clemente location, even though the details indicated it was for the Irvine location. Before I bought it, I called the SC location and asked if I could use it there. The person who answered said sure. So I bought it. Went in last night and told our waitress we had a Groupon. She looked at it and said we couldn't use it. I pointed out that the title said San Clemente and that I called to ask about this. She didn't care. Didn't attempt to ask a manager if they could work with us or accommodate us. Pretty rude. She said she could give us some time to think about whether we were going to eat there or not. Ummmm...ok thanks for the terrible attitude. Based on that, we left. I understand this was a mistake that might have been Groupon's fault, not the restaurant's. But it's not Groupon's fault that an employee/business won't even attempt to work with a customer or that an employee is tart. I don't give a rat's ass about not being able to use a coupon. We happily pay for meals and tip nicely at local businesses in San Clemente since we are locals. We eat out 3 to 5 times a week for dinner and look forward to supporting the community and businesses within. Sadly, this restaurant gets 2 thumbs down for service and because of that, we will never go back. And we'll be sure to relay this to our friends in the community as well. We are small business owners ourselves and we depend on the support of the local community to be successful. Customer service is critical. Ordered a pizza which did not follow either neapolitan or lazio styles. It's a bit difficult to put my finger on it. But the best I can describe it is that it's a grade above a good frozen pizza. The flavor is ok. If you're not a connoisseur of pizza, then you'll be happy with what you get. But if you are a pizza maven, then you probably would steer clear of this place because of the name alone. The restaurant itself is a decent size and can probably accommodate a party of 12 people without having the place feel claustrophobic. They also carry a few Italian beers like Birra Moretti and Peroni. But that's about as close to Italy as you'll get here. The Italian music is awesome and I am a very healthy eater and was scared to order pizza because I only had it twice a year. Hats off to them because it was perfect. So now after visiting Italian Craving four times, I think I can give an accurate assessment of it's food, staff, and atmosphere. We stumbled upon this place quite by accident one night when looking for new options in San Clemente. We live only a mile away and had been "craving" some good old, down to earth, Italian food. This is exactly what you will find. The dishes are huge, flavorful, and very well priced. The house Chianti goes down nicely, and is also very reasonable. They fill the caraf all the way to the top, so if its just two of you, a half caraf is almost as much as regular bottle. I have tried everything from their Moma Mia Pasta, to the lasanga, the pizzas, and the calzones. My only complaint is I usually eat so many breadsticks, I can never finish my dinner! The waitress are all mostly young, cute, and extremely attentive. I never have to ask for a water refill, more bread, or anything. Despite this place gets packed, these girls move and never miss a pace. The resturant itself has the ambience of your friend's kitchen. They did not overdo it on the Italian decor, but it has a nice vibe about the place that gives it an energy. I can image the outdoor seating is very popular in the summer months. Everytime I have been here, I have had dinner for two, with drinks, appitizers, and desert, and its ALWAYS been under 50 bucks, sometimes even under 40! When you compare that to pizza port, which I think is a rip off and their pizza overrated, Italian Cravings is the place to head too. While its no high end dining experience, this is purely Italian comfort food, great prices, huge portions, and awesome staff. What else can you ask for? read more

Allow me to preface this review by stating that I've ordered from IC no less than 50-65 times..... Obviously and Oddly enough, we LOVE this place. The food, our 2 favorites (Chix Tequila and Lobster 'something'), are generally spot on. Recently, the lobster dish seemed to be lacking the usual generous lobster chunk portions and appeared to be replaced by some kind of stringy clam product. Whatever it was, it wasn't what we've previously enjoyed and had come to expect. Certainly, these things happen, no big deal. When I called back, I spoke with the manager; a human named 'Dennis', who decided at that very moment, that it was in the best interest of the business to debate me on the issue of the meal in front of me at my home, just delivered. No apology. No effort to rectify. Nothing. He actually stated that what I was stating was impossible due to the fact that the OWNER was in the kitchen cooking tonight. When asked if it was POSSIBLE that the owner made a mistake, Dennis stood by his boss like a good little soldier and declared him infallible. Great if you're going into battle... Poor if trying to retain a customer base. Maybe we'll get a hankering in a few months and forget about the stringy grey clams and try IC again.... Wow. I cannot believe that this place has a 3 star rating. I'm acknowledging right now that this review is going to make me sound like an a-hole, but our experience was REALLY this bad. My husband and I wanted Italian food for dinner so I went to Italian Cravings to get an order to bring home. He had the spaghetti with sausage, I had the gnocchi juliet, and I also got a kid's meal of spaghetti and meatballs for our daughter. I have no idea how that ended up costing us $37 or some dollars, but it was a giant waste of money! When I came in to place my order, the guy who took my order was very friendly. When I came back 20 minutes later to pick up my food, I was basically ignored by the other guy and two women working. The guy was on the phone taking an order (understandable as he was busy) but one waitress did not even acknowledge my existence and walked right past me multiple times, and the other waitress said she'd be right with me and never came back. I had to wait for the guy who took my order to bring my food out for me. He is the only reason I feel less cheated out of my money. Yes, it was a Saturday night, but no they were not packed. I get that they get better tips with the tables than with a take out order, but seriously? All they had to do was pack up my food and hand it to me. But nope. I stood there, staring at the walls, looking around the restaurant, feeling awkward and unwelcome, wanting my food so I could just gtfo and go home. So.. the food. The bread that came with the meals were very doughy and not cooked all the way. It literally tasted like I was eating olive oil and rosemary. Next! My husband's spaghetti was undercooked. He is a human garbage disposal and was not impressed. The spaghetti sauce tasted like regular store bought sauce. My meal came with a clam chowder, and it was pretty good, but nothing to write home about. I normally would rant about wanting to give 0 stars, but the clam chowder makes me feel a little bit more okay with the fact that I have to give at least one star. The gnocchi juliet should not even be considered a pasta dish. It should have been under the soup section of the menu because this thing was swimming in the sauce. The dish was WAY too rich and after about 5 bites, I couldn't eat anymore and I had a stomach ache almost immediately after. Despite the ridiculous amount of sauce, it didn't taste like anything. If I had to explain it though, it was like 1 part spaghetti sauce, 3 parts heavy cream. My daughter seemed to like her spaghetti and meatballs, but she is also a toddler and enjoys eating anything that will make a mess. I did have a tiny bit of a meatball and it was actually good. All in all.. terrible experience, horrible and bland food, not worth the money.. we will not be coming back. read more

i am only giving it 4 stars since we ordered 1 item for take out. We just moved to san clemente and i just started receiving the weekender (its like the penny saver) and also started collecting the coupons for the local eaterys..so i can try these places out. We got a coupon for a x-large pizza with 1 topping take out only for $10 and some change. it was ready in 10 min...and it was amazing!!!! although i am a huge crust fan so i wish the crust was little thicker but it was sooo good!! cant wait to go back and try out the other dishes since we still have coupons left! read more

Service was awesome. Food portions were awesome. Food flavor was great and though similar to other restaurants for the pallet... Some of their food just knocked my socks off. The trio appetizer was pretty good but was the only thing I could even balk about. And it still was better than a lot of other fried combo Italian appetizers. The clam chowder, actually was unique. It was the thinnest chowder and best I've ever had. The flavor was crazy good. Not Campbell's at all. The garlic chicken calzone (not even a calzone fan but my date had to have one) was out of this world tasty. I would go back just for the calzone and I don't even fancy calzones. I had the tortellini with seafood. At this point I couldn't even eat anymore and we boxed it and took it home. I warmed it up later that night, being the fat ass I am, and I ate it quick. I expected the seafood to be small but once again this place had me salivating. It was weird though... Our waiter was working it, he had 5tables at one point and the girl who was supposed to be the hostess I guess literally just stood there. When we walked in she didn't greet us but rather told us to sit wherever we like. She said it friendly but for a restaurant that is all candle lit and serving main course dishes at $15 a plate I would kind of expect to be seated with a menu. I know it ain't the ritz but seriously... In any case, any gripe I would have with the female at the front desk was quickly obscured by our waiters efforts and attention. He was great. I rate this business anything near a single star because they exist. The booth my family and I where seated at had a lot of crums on the seats, so I had to wipe it down before we actually sat. The waiter watched and said nothing. The wine selection was very poor. The service was ok. The wait time for food was long and we were the first table sat at 5pm for dinner. The veal was cooked ok with canned pasta sauce that had a chalky film. My boyfriend saw his chicken in a defrosted foster farms bag in the open kitchen before being cooked! He did not share this with me until we left... knowing that I would leave immediately. The ranch salad dressing wasn't even good. I live very close to this San Clemente restaurant and I wanted to try it to be a good local supporting a local business. This is the worst Italian food I have ever experienced. read more
