    Shrimp Scampi over linguini
    Michael C.

From the outside, it looks pretty normal. When you walk in, the smell of the food puts your senses in overdrive. Sure, the interior is a little drab and outdated, but clean and maintained. A glance at the menu gives you hope, as there is quite a selection of tasty dishes, described to the T, leaving nothing to the imagination. I ordered the Shrimp Scampi over linguini, my wife, the Linguini with Clam Sauce, and my oldest daughter, the Chicken Marsala. Our salads came out first. Nicely put together greens and veggies, with the best tasting balsamic vinagrette ive ever tasted. Next came our appetizer, the Potato Skins. Very well prepared, steaming hot, fresh and delicious. Smothering in cheese and bacon pieces. Finally, out came our main courses. Beautifully prepared, steaming hot, freshly prepared FROM SCRATCH, and a perfect portion. As i spun my fork into the first taste, my excitement was overwhelming. I've been in the south for 4 years, and have had nothing but disappointment from just about every "italian" restaurant ive been to. Until now. I put the fork in my mouth, my eyes opened widely, my taste buds jumped, and the hair on the back of my neck stood straight up. Had i just tasted that right? My God, that was the best italian dish ive had in a LONG time. I loaded my fork again, and again, in relief. After that, i had to try a mouthful of my wife and daughters meals, all exactly as well prepared. That Shrimp Scampi was the best ive tasted, ever. By far. Even being from the italian epicenter of the northeast (New Haven, CT- Wooster Street) I was shockingly impressed. I have found my new italian restaurant of choice. Italian Garden, you are my new best friends. I cannot wait to try the pizza, and all the other delectible dishes advertized on your vast menu. And the prices? The Shrimp Scampi was $12.99. You'd pay more than that at Olive Garden, and well...its Olive Garden.

Food was really good. The dining space smells from the old carpet. I usually carry-out. I always order the chicken and shrimp alfredo.

After a long wait, we finally get our food and it's COLD! a few other tables sent their food back (after a long wait) because it was cold as well. I swear I heard a microwave go off a few times while I was there too. Pretty bland, doesn't seem like there's any seasoning at all. Also couldn't help but notice Vinny getting upset the waitresses weren't watching us eat. Personally, I don't like being stared down by staff while eating. The chef and owner, Vinnie, is an authentic Italian cook and cares about the dining experience of each and every patron, thus RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED!!! It's definitely worth it as the dining experience rivals pretty much any other you have experienced. Meals are freshly prepared in view of the customers and the same day market staples experience only adds to the special atmosphere. Each menu item is prepared with love and attention so you get a better plated meal than could ever be represented on the menu. Vinnie does have a small staff so although you get special treatment, it might take a slight bit longer than normal but it is worth the wait. I cannot say enough about how good the food is or how much Vinnie cares about your individual satisfaction but once you experience it you will definitely come away impressed. The pasta sauces are awesome and help to properly accentuate whatever protein you choose so feel free to experiment a bit and get out of your comfort zone, you might find a new favorite. This is one of my favorite places to eat and I cant say enough good things, so just "try it, you'll like it (a lot).

I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe it was just a busy Friday. However, when I came in, the place was practically empty, and her attitude was the same still rude and dismissive. I didn't catch her name, but she had brown hair clipped up with a claw and was wearing camo Crocs. If this is the kind of service I'll be receiving moving forward, I'll have no problem discontinuing my recommendations for this place and taking my business elsewhere. Ordered my usual Italian meatball sub and it was good per usual so just a bad seed it seems.

I would say, with a couple of small improvements, this could be a pretty good place…read more First off. Calling yourself an Italian Restaurant is a very big misleading statement. I would say you are a mid-size town café. I come to this conclusion because you don't get some very basic culinary fundamentals to call it an Italian Restaurant. Pre-cooking pasta is okay if you do it properly. Biggest point: there was no salt in the water while cooking the pasta. This is a must to add flavor; otherwise, it is very bland and tastes overcooked. Batch cooking pasta is done at 65% cooked, proportioned, and refrigerated. Then, when a customer orders it, you drop it into "Salted Boiling Water" to finish cooking it. Next, you can use frozen meatballs as long as you put them in spaghetti sauce at least 12 hours beforehand, so they don't have a frozen meat taste. Follow these suggestions, and it will quickly become a number-one seller as long as it stays reasonably priced. Last point: clean up the flea-market look in your dining room. There has to be a better layout that doesn't have a huge tub of Lance Crackers as your first impression. The help was friendly. The Food was hot.

The first visit was for brunch -- except there was no brunch. It's advertised as brunch, but the menu was dinner only. Pasta at 11am? We passed and left. So, dinner it was. They market themselves as Italian-inspired cuisine. If this is Italian, my foot is an eggplant. I rarely write harsh reviews, so bear with me while I go into detail. First, the cocktails. I ordered an old fashioned. The older gentleman behind the bar -- who I believe is the owner -- should not be making cocktails. If you're going to charge $20-25 for one, do it right. Invest in a mortar and pestle, skip the premade mix, and don't use bargain whiskey. Smoking the glass doesn't hide premade bitters or cheap bourbon. Second, the bread. No real Italian restaurant would serve this. My family and I genuinely wondered if it came from Aldi or Lidl with a dusting of flour to fake an artisan look. Third, the appetizers. We should have stopped here and gone elsewhere, but we pushed on. The calamari was rubbery, soggy, and greasy. The crostini was fine -- though it's hard to mess that up. Fourth, the entrees. I ordered the ossobuco. One look at the sauce and I knew this wasn't going to be right -- ossobuco shouldn't be sweet, and this was. The meat was okay, but the sauce ruined it. My wife saw my face and started laughing -- until she tasted her own dish. A real Italian restaurant should be able to make a proper tri-color tortellini. This one couldn't. The kids weren't impressed with their pasta either. The staff, though, were good -- no complaints there. Given how cramped the space was, we were genuinely impressed by how well they maneuvered around. In closing: beyond the questionable food, there was an off-putting vibe we might not have noticed if not for the manager's belligerence toward his staff -- we could hear him yelling at them in the back. Odd, considering he spent the whole time sitting at the bar while the owner flirted with one of the waitresses which was the only thing funny about this dinner. Overall, this is one of the rare times I'll say: avoid this place. Questionable food, questionable behavior. Our waiter, at least, was great.
