Housed in an old converted home, the restaurant has three cozy rooms filled with family portraits and homey décor. Depending on the time, it can get a little loud. The staff? The inside gives me fellowship hall at church but it's very clean and the folks are so kind! Had the fried chicken, green beans, fried squash, potato salad and mac and cheese. Visited this restaurant while I was in the area and was pleased to see such good reviews on Yelp. It resembles an old house - not sure if it was or not, but it has an old charming vibe. We were seated in a back dining room and servers quickly attended to us. I ordered the fried flounder with Mac and cheese and fried green tomatoes. The sides were just okay but the flounder was really good. I shared my plate with my mom who ordered the pulled pork plate. That dish was ok but the flounder was definitely a better choice. The staff was friendly and it seems to be a popular restaurant since customers were steady coming and going. Location is great, just off the highway, and the prices are reasonable. Just don't expect anything fancy - paper menus you'll receive have definitely been around for awhile, the furniture is old and some mismatch too. This place is not "country cooking " at all. The country style steak is nothing but frozen breaded steak patties, the mashed potatoes are instant mashed potatoes/with a dry gravy mix and the pinto beans had no seasoning whatsoever except everything was way over salted. Even the cornbread tasted like a store bought mix. If you are looking for a good home cooked meal you will not find it here, this place is serving nothing but processed food. If anyone tells you that the food here is outstanding or great, then they are either lying or obviously have never had a decent home cooked meal in their life. This place is riiiiiidiculous! So, so good. Amazing pork chops, great burger steak, and meat loaf that reminded me of mom's. Service was exactly what I'd expect from a home cookin' restaurant. Met 3 wonderful women who were sweet to talk to and helpful in deciding what to eat. Pecan pie & brownies were also super. Prices were reasonable with huge portions (my little side bowl of black eye peas was almost falling off my plate because the pork chops were so big!) The wait staff was great and the cornbread was good as well. (There's the "something nice"). My wife and I stopped in on a Sunday around noon. We looked at the menu and saw the adult "1-meat and 3 veggies" was $14 and the kid's "1-meat and 2-veggies" was $7. Neither of us wanted 3 veggies, so I asked the waitress if we could order the kid's portion. She said we could. We both got the baked chicken. I ordered mashed potatoes and green beans for my veggies and my wife ordered lima beans and raisin/carrot salad. The chicken was dry! I needed three refills on my tea to get the chicken down and the beans looked like they had been cooking for a while- a little mushy. Now it comes time to pay the bill. Two meals at $7 each and two $3 drinks. Should be under $25, no? Nope! Got charged for the "3-veggie" meal. The cashier says, "$34..." (forget how much in change). To which my wife said to the cashier, "we got the "2-veggie meal." And the cashier replies- in a not so friendly (or interested tone), "I know. And that will be $34..." The special Sunday menu had a great variety and was extremely reasonable. The food was Exceptional! I hope to always plan my trips this way from now on so that we get here when they are open. I was really looking forward to loving the food but I ended up loving the service better. I ordered the roast beef, with lime beans and yams. My girlfriend ordered the fried chicken, greens and yams. We both ordered the cornbread. Needless to say for soul food...it was a bit lackluster for me. The roast beef was delicious and the lime beans yummy but the yams tasted like they came out a can and the cornbread was undercooked. We asked for the cornbread to be cooked longer and they bought us a whole new piece. My girlfriends chicken looked so crisp and pretty...she said the greens where amazing and she agreed with me that the yams tasted like it came from a can and green beans. The best part was the service...the ladies that ran the dining room where so sweet and southern you just wanted to hug them. On our way to Charlotte we stopped by The Front Porch for dinner and enjoyed it! The staff are friendly and the food was great. My wife and I ordered the fried chicken with sides. The chicken was nicely seasoned and came out fresh. What a treat!! Their sweet tea was excellent as well. The restaurants is conveniently located right off the highway and had ample parking. The kids enjoyed it and the menu offered something for everyone even for the picky eaters. If your traveling and want a nice place to relax/enjoy a good meal, look no further. Forever my favorite Southern restaurant. They have been sticking to the script for years now with the same recipes and there is good reason for it. I haven't discovered a place anywhere with better cornbread or fried green tomatoes!! I grew up in Richburg, but I will always make the trip and I also refer pretty much every person I know. Growing up, we would have them cater our birthday parties and the Mac and cheese and barbecue was probably the biggest hit. Their food is ready quickly, always fresh, and extremely flavorful! My favorites are the baked chicken (it falls off the bone), fried pork chops (perfectly crispy), Mac and cheese, fried green tomatoes (not available on Sundays), and cabbage. This is a pretty typical local food joint. The food is made to order, and the menu items are mostly regional dishes like fried chicken. The prices and quantity are good, but the food tasted about midrange. I got the fried chicken (of course) and it was pretty good. I think the fried green tomatoes were the best part, with crispy breading vs the sometimes soggy situation that sometimes unfolds with FGT's. The Mac and cheese was a little (lot) heavy on the butter, but it was delicious. Butter beans and new potatoes from the specials menu were both good too. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here, but definitely the best among competition in the area. Service was fabulous and food came out in a timely manner. This was probably a 3.5 star experience for me but the impulse brownie I bought at the register was a six star experience and bumped my rating to a 4. EVEN IF YIU ARENT HUNGRY, STOP IN JUST FOR THE BROWNIE. I don't think it's something they heavily promote, but they should. It's a good 6 x 6 inches and at least an inch thick. They were only accepting carryout orders due to the pandemic. So, I called in my order and it was hot and ready when I arrived to pick it up. The woman at the front door greeted me as I came in and immediately got my order. It was very dim and all of the chairs were on top of the tables to remind customers they are not open for dine-in. I had the Fried Pork Chops, fried green tomatoes, cabbage and baked chicken. Everything was excellent! Exactly what I expected for a meal from the South, being from up North.
