As I have posted several times, I am VERY particular with my Italian food. This place was an unexpected delicious restaurant. Although it did have 4 stars, I am still very picky and this place did not disappoint. Very authentic motif, great service, and very good food. Fresh bread to the table was truly fresh and delicious!! My husband got the baked ziti and was thoroughly impressed. I got the Cafes Land and Sea Ultimate Pasta... very yummy. Unforgettable Shrimp Scampi Pasta was so incredibly good this picture doesn't do justice. I like fettuccine Alfredo, I love chicken and just the regular basic pasta sauce so when I went out of my way to try this. I was really taking a chance. It had kind of a creamy red white sauce. I would advise not to spend your money at this so called "kitchen & cafe" Terrible, overpriced, and horrendous. That's how I can describe it. I ordered Beef Scaloppini Marsala Filet Mignon and it is not what anyone expects. For $18.00, it was basically a country fried steak with some spaghetti on the side. It lacked flavor, sauce and overall quality. I had to add pepper, salt, and Italian seasoning because of the lack of flavor. I was starving but never again. First let me say we have eaten here before and it was expensive but good. My husband phoned in a dinner ordered for me and was told it would "be ready in 2 min". He told them he wouldn't be there for 15-20 minutes. Upon arrival the dinner wasn't ready. The man behind the counter said they got busy and it wasn't ready. That being said, dinner was terrible. I absolutely love this place. My favorite dish is the Bruschetta Chicken with Veggies. I'll get the pasta on my fatter days lol but honestly everything is delicious. We have eaten there 3 times, the food was really good but the service was so bad every time that we decided we would just get take out from then on. So, on Tuesday night, I called at 4pm to order take out and asked that it be ready at 4:40. The man told me they couldn't do that, if I ordered right then it would be ready in 15 minutes or I needed to call back closer to the pickup time. He said they were not able to write it down and start preparing it at the appropriate time. He was very rude about it and would not even try to be helpful. I did call back later to order and he tried to act like he was someone else. When my husband picked up the order there were two workers and no customers. We spent $82 for 4 meals. I had the beef Florentine and it was some of the best I've had in years. Prices were very reasonable and the portions were large. I can see why this place is developing a regular customer base. So I didn't know this restaurant from any other, was just looking for something where my wife and I could meet with friends that was halfway between our homes. They live in Bradenton, FL and we live in San Antonio, FL. Previous reviews were good enough to justify trying. Mind you when I saw it was in a Winn Dixie Strip mall, I was a little worried. However, it was nicely decorated, clean and looked good. The food was wonderful. The bread was great and the desert was great as well. The Service? Aleandro was AWESOME!!!!. He seemed to be there just when you were getting ready to ask for something. The entire experience was great. I really wanted to like this place since it is 2 minutes from my house. So much so that I gave it two attempts. The last time was the worst of the worst. Ordered chicken piccata and it was eggy and just plain weird tasting. The sauce was a little gummy or..idk. It was just a no. So I ordered some red sauce to be able to make it edible and they wanted to charge me 2.50 extra for sauce . Anyplace that charges me for sauce, especially to make it edible is a hard pass. What a surprise! I've been past here at least 3,687,469 times but had never been inside. What I thought was a sandwich shop turned out to be a very nice sit down restaurant. After reading previous reviews we tried it out expecting the unexpected. Let's get this out of the way right now. From the moment we walked in we had impeccable service, not just from our server but all servers. The hot bread served with olive oil and balsamic was yummy and we plowed through it. We were brought a refill of both, nice. I ordered the Romeo and Juliet, normally served with a creamy garlic sauce, with their Bologanese Sauce. My request was handled nicely with no problems. This dish is fabulous. Penne pasta with pancetta, tomato, mushrooms, chicken, spinach and topped with absolutely delicious shrimp. $15.99, well worth it. Wife had the shrimp scampi over linguini. What I expected as a garlic heavy dish turned out to be a fresh, lemon infused beauty, wife ate it all, $17.99. Desert was a just ok Creem brûlée but hey this is not a desert restaurant. Good Italian dishes cooked fresh in a nice neighborhood place. We even got a $5 coupon for the next meal. Can't wait to try the chicken parm. read more

The "Best Restaurant of the Year for 2009" sign hanging outside is no joke. This place is wonderful. Being a small space in the Sweet Bay shopping plaza, I was surprised when I walked in and found myself in a nice Italian restaurant. The prices are comparable to any reputable place ($14.99 for many of the dishes) and for good reason. My chicken crusted parmesan was perfect. It was crispy and the meat was tender and juicy. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the service was great, even though they were pretty busy on a Tuesday night. For dessert I had the Tuxedo Mouse Brownie. Oh... my... God... It was like floating on a heavenly cloud and then eating that cloud. Unbelievable! I split it with my husband and father-in-law and we were practically wrestling for the last bites. Even my husband, who ordinarily lacks a sweet tooth, was seen scraping the sides long after the plate was cleaned. I can't describe it any more than that - you just need to try it. Trust me. If you enjoy being giddy from a dessert, you need to order that item. The brownie is only a small part of it; it's mostly mouse, whipped cream, and deliciousness. Four stars for consistently good food and a kitchen who will work with you. The result is a good meal exactly how you want it. This small Italian restaurant is located in a strip mall in North Riverview. Its not impressive on the outside and not super fancy, but it is clean and cute. They did a good job decorating the inside. The tile work on and behind the bar is beautiful. The kitchen is very small, you can see the cooks from your table so you will have to have patience on busy nights. The good news is that since each dish is prepared to order, you can change things up a bit if you want to to make any dish exactly what you are craving. The prices are comparable or even cheaper then most chain Italian restaurants, and the food is better so why would you go to a chain restaurant when you can get great Italian food from an Italian family Kitchen? read more

I do not have the words to state how delicious this food really is, the consistency to which a good meal is always delivered from this place is staggering. From the outside this may seem like some special form of strip mall hell, but I dare you to step inside and find a beautiful piece of of dining atmosphere carved out from the rock face of said strip mall, and while the wait staff leaves so very much to be desired as they may as well be golems walking around devoid of personality. The food is the saving grace all together, the fried calamari is a must every time, and I have yet to be disappointed by anything on their menu. Quite frankly, the decor is delightful and its a very clean place, but the service and food do not justify a higher rating. For an Italian restaurant with almost no customers, they made numerous errors and had somewhat slow service. Their bread is delicious. Top marks! My grilled chicken was definitely fully cooked, but was not juicy. The sauce was fair, but lacked rounded flavor. The accompanying vegetables were served in a bowl, so all of the juice ran to the bottom. So while the vegetables on top were crispy and tasty, the ones on the bottom were soggy. I'd suggest this establishment consider serving grilled vegetables plated along side the main entree. The other 2 diners in our party said their food was tasty, though they did bring the wrong pasta type for one dish. Apparently it was good. Finally, a food allergy concern was accommodated, however not gracefully so. read more

But it was a very nice room. Server was attentive and pleasant. The food though... Good. Not great. Was really hoping for great. The prices were a little high for what you get. This was the worst Italian food I have ever tasted. I know what real authentic Italian is supposed to taste like. We ordered the chicken piccata and the seafood risotto. The sauce for the chicken piccata was nuclear yellow and thick like country fried gravy. The chicken was breaded but way over cooked and the breading tasted burnt. The sauce was so disgusting I couldn't eat the spaghetti the meal came with. The meal arrived cold. The seafood risotto was undercooked. The rice was VERY hard and the seafood was not as described. The flavor of the sauce was terrible. The appetizer calimari was underwhelming. There was only tubes and the breading tasted of cornbread. The marinara was ok but not worth the price. The bread was good but they added balsamic vinegar to the oils and spices for dipping. Not an authentic taste. The entire meal was disgusting. Will never go here again. I don't know why people gave good reviews. The meal was disgusting. And they played Spanish music not Italian. What are he'll are they thinking????? read more

There were people outside when we arrived and full restaurant- no one to take names so I walked to back, to bar area, and asked to be put on wait list. A server, later found out was Edson, said to wait and he'd get us when a table became available. We waited outside- along with two other couples who arrived AFTER us- & saw two people leave. A third couple entered the building and sat down at table that was just vacated! I walked in and asked how they sat when there were three couples ahead of them! Total chaos. Then we were sat and We waited over five mins before our drink order was taken. Our server, Edson, appeared and we asked what the house platter was in app menu and was told they didn't have. We ordered mozzarella sticks and they were mediocre at best. My date asked for bread service and the table behind us received their second bread basket before we ever got ours- and our glasses remained empty - I had to ask for refills. I ordered the Signature dish and, honestly, it was very bland- no flavor so I added the marinara sauce to it for seasoning. No server asked how our meal was during or after meal. I watched our server cater to other tables with larger parties- and again no drink refills. I had to walk to the bar area and ask for our check. I will NOT be back. Very unorganized and frustrating experience .... Food NOT worth its... sadly. read more

This was my first time trying Italian Kitchen Café.  I went to the restaurant and placed a to go order. I was surprised by the prices as they were high but I figured I want to support local businesses in my area. I ordered 2 dinners, a salad and cheese sticks. My dinner was the baked cheese ravioli. I asked the employee if there was meat in it. He responded that they use chicken broth in the marinara sauce. I have never heard of using any meat stock in marinara sauce but I figured I would give it a try. When I got home and took the food out of the bag,  I was initially disappointed in the lack of food in the 2 dinners (baked lasagna and baked ravioli) for what I paid. The cheese sticks were not golden brown and there were only 5 small sticks. The side salad looked fresh and a good amount for the price. I set up the food for hubby and I and tried the dressing. I am confident it was bottled dressing. YUCK! I have never had bottled dressing from an Italian restaurant. The two dinners tasted horrible as the sauce was disgusting. I tried a cheese stick. It was cold and the cheese was not "cooked" at all. Spending $45.68 plus tip is ridiculous for food that tasted horrible and I threw out.  Chicken broth in sauce and bottled salad dressing, really? This is not the experience I expected after reading many great reviews on Facebook. I emailed the restaurant that evening to let them know of my disappointment. I specifically stated that I wanted to give them an opportunity to make this right. It has been 30 days and I have not received any sort of response. This is a reflection that they do not care about their customers. Do not waste your time or money at this place. Chef Boyardee in a can tastes better than this "Italian" food. read more
