This was my first time trying Italian Kitchen Café.  I went to the restaurant and placed a to go order. I was surprised by the prices as they were high but I figured I want to support local businesses in my area. I ordered 2 dinners, a salad and cheese sticks. My dinner was the baked cheese ravioli. I asked the employee if there was meat in it. He responded that they use chicken broth in the marinara sauce. I have never heard of using any meat stock in marinara sauce but I figured I would give it a try. When I got home and took the food out of the bag,  I was initially disappointed in the lack of food in the 2 dinners (baked lasagna and baked ravioli) for what I paid. The cheese sticks were not golden brown and there were only 5 small sticks. The side salad looked fresh and a good amount for the price. I set up the food for hubby and I and tried the dressing. I am confident it was bottled dressing. YUCK! I have never had bottled dressing from an Italian restaurant. The two dinners tasted horrible as the sauce was disgusting. I tried a cheese stick. It was cold and the cheese was not "cooked" at all. Spending $45.68 plus tip is ridiculous for food that tasted horrible and I threw out.  Chicken broth in sauce and bottled salad dressing, really? This is not the experience I expected after reading many great reviews on Facebook. I emailed the restaurant that evening to let them know of my disappointment. I specifically stated that I wanted to give them an opportunity to make this right. It has been 30 days and I have not received any sort of response. This is a reflection that they do not care about their customers. Do not waste your time or money at this place. Chef Boyardee in a can tastes better than this "Italian" food. read more

First time visit with my family for my niece 16th birthday. Were told by the establishment to change our party time to 6:00 pm. Arrived and no menus were given. Took forever for drinks. Waiter waited on everyone else to the point where they received their food, paid and left and when we asked the waiter when he was coming to take our order( family of 13) his response was I'll be there. Once he finally came to take our order after 7pm we asked could we get some bread and was told we would have to wait until our food comes out. That was the last straw. My family and I walked out. Did I forget he was trying to make us pay for our drinks. Never again would I go back. This restaurant does not care about their customers. Horrible service read more

All I can say is WOW. This place is unbelievable. And first time I had to threaten a waiter because of a mistake he made. Read on to understand why. The food is definitely authentic. The place is a lot more classy than it looks from the outside. This would make a great place for a romantic dinner. Started with the calamari. Breading was light and calamari perfectly cooked. Not rubbery. I ordered the beef scaloppini Marsala. I'm used to this dish being chicken, so figured I'd try Beef. Also ordered baked tortellini. Let's start with the beef Marsala. First, the breading was perfectly seasoned, light, and not too thick or thin. When I cut into it, it was so moist but Beef was white. Hmmmmm. Is it pork? Didn't say pork. Said beef. Ok, I'm feeling brave. I'll try it. The whole thing just melted in my mouth while exploding with flavor. Definitely not beef, or pork. That was chicken. At that moment waiter came by to see how everything was and noticed it was chicken. He started apologizing and reached over to take my plate so he could replace it with beef. I grabbed his hand and said "If you take that plate away from me, I will hurt you!" He looked at me shocked and concerned and I started laughing and told him that I knew it was not what I ordered but this was the best chicken Marsala I had ever tasted and was perfectly happy with the mistake. Seriously! That thing was ridiculously good. I will fight you for it! LOL The baked tortellini was just as good. Perfectly cooked, seasoned, and tasted amazing. So if you're looking for authentic Italian cuisine, look no further. Have not had better in Tampa Bay Area...heck almost anywhere in the US. read more

Never tried here. Lived in LsC for a long time too. UberEATS is finally here and they were on it. I tried the mozzarella sticks and the chicken park with pasta. The mozzarella sticks were cold and not fried long enough, usually they should be melted and these were solid inside. Now the chicken parm... wow! It was a 10! I didn't expect that. Really good. Will be ordering again!! Just make sure to get your sticks longer! read more

Dined here Saturday and was actually impressed to find this location out in Riverview. I had a pretty good experience here, although the Fettuccine Alfredo I had ($9.99) did not really live up to my expectations of my favorite Italian dish. My Step-Father's Sinful Chicken Parmesan did however taste great and I will probably order this on future visits. The atmosphere inside is great and I think sitting closer to the back was actually a good idea here. We ordered food via Grubhub this evening and I was highly impressed with this restaurant. Our food was hot when it arrived and very good! I ordered the "Romeo & Juliet move over Signature dish pasta" and it was awesome! The penne pasta was cooked perfectly, along with the grilled chicken and jumbo shrimp. The white sauce was superb! My husband ordered the spaghetti with meatballs and enjoyed his meal as well. We topped it off with a slice of cheesecake and it made our evening that much better! My only Italian go-to. The food taste so authentic and flavorful, the bread is always prefect, and every dish I've gotten from here is just amazing. Even their coffee is just above and beyond great. My only complaint is that sometimes they skimp on the Spaghetti Bolognese sauce (I think it depends on who's cooking) but even with that being said the dish itself is my favorite one here. I love this place. I've only had delivery as I have physical issues which make getting out a little dicey. As you can imagine, delivery has its own set of issues, and I know it's no substitute for getting it just moments from the kitchen. However, I get that 'moments from the kitchen' feel and taste from delivery. Such a treat. Every dish I've tried has been fantastic. I'm surprised I don't read more about the bread. A fresh loaf of French baguette with just the right amount of butter, garlic and spices. Always delivered HOT. It's so so good; just right for sopping up those last bits of sauce. Wonderful by itself. Tonight I had the lasagne for the first time; it won't be the last. Mercy. My son had the dish with shrimp, chicken, sausage, mushrooms in a light wine sauce. He was thrilled...said everything about this dish was outstanding. One thing I love is the fresh veggies in dishes. Mushrooms are still firm to the bite and not squishy, as is the eggplant. I'm puzzled by the folks who say the prices are high. Nothing could be further from the truth. Good food isn't cheap. You want quality, prepared well, it costs, and I'll gladly pay what I consider to be these rather modest prices. You want cheap; there are far too many places where you can get it. If you've never eaten here and love great Italian food, go. You'll turn into a fan. read more

Looked like a nice place so we thought we would try it. Upon walking in, the strong odor of sewage hit you in the face. We were told it was from outside. However, there was not smell outside. For a tiny hole in the wall place located in a strip mall in Riverview this place is amazing. The server, Michael, was extra attentive and very delightful to talk to. All around fantastic! Delicious food, friendly staff, and very clean beautiful interior. Doesn't look like much from the outside but step inside and you'll feel like you were whisked away to a cafe in Rome (disclaimer: I've never been to Rome). I can't say enough about the decor and design of the restaurant. It's a work of art. This place is always packed on the weekends but on weekday evenings you'll get very attentive service. All the food seemed extremely fresh and made to order. The sangria is delicious. The bread is baked to perfection and served fresh out of the oven. The menu options are plentiful. I had the chicken florentine and I can vouch for that. I was especially impressed with the side of freshly grilled veggies. A lot of restaurants will serve veggies that are overcooked, previously frozen, and just overall sad. But this made me jump for joy at the cellular level. Feel free to discuss modifications if it suits you. My dad doesn't care much for creamy sauces so they prepared his dish with an alternative and he raved about it. It was my dad's birthday and they did a little something special for him without my asking so I was really impressed with that. Thank you very much for giving us a wonderful experience. WOW!! We have been looking for a great Italian place since we moved here!! Not anymore!! The service was impeccable in fact the chef came out to the table to see how our food was. The menu looked so good we were having trouble deciding and the waiter told us that the two most popular were the lasagna and Romeo & Juliet. They did not disappoint!! We started with a soup of the day, vegetable; and the taste and portion size were amazing!! The bread they bring to the table is baked in-house and was served warm and crunchy...perfect! The inside was very well decorated and impeccably clean, including the bathrooms. Please come and support a great local business! They suggest making a reservation if you are coming after 5 pm. I really liked the staff and relaxed ambiance of this restaurant on a Sunday evening. The warm bread, our appetizer, and the chicken from my chicken piatta was perfectly breaded. Wasn't impressed with the sauce or pasta unfortunately. The spaghetti noodles were very thick and a little over cooked. I did enjoy everything else so I'm going to come back and try another dish. Ordering online was smooth and a great process. We ordered the chicken parmigiana, which was great and chicken florentine, which wasn't so great. Chicken was chewy and tough. So disappointed that they removed the steak and pappardelle pasta from the menu. Went there Friday night with a party of 7 and 5 of us wanted to order this entree. The waiter said they took it off because steak was too expensive. I even offered to walk next door to Winn Dixie and buy some steaks if they would make it! Portions are still good size (most are $10-14) but don't include a salad, limited wine selection. Service was a little slow ---not enough waiters and a busy take out business. read more

I'm guessing this place may have changed ownership since the last time we visited. It used to be awesome. Now it's okay, but not as good as it used to be. I always get the grilled chicken in lemon butter sauce that comes with a side of spaghetti. You used to get two breasts and a generous portion of spaghetti. Last time, I got one small chicken breast and it was overcooked to the point it was difficult to cut, and not very enjoyable :( And the pasta size shrunk considerably, too. I understand the need to cut back some in this economy, but pasta is cheap, if you're going to leave the prices the same and give me a tiny little overcooked chicken breast, at least make up for it with a decent portion of spaghettti. They also change the sangria recipe, and sadly, I don't like the new version. This was too dry for my taste. I would still go there, but would opt for other places first. Next time, I think I'll try the spaghetti and meatballs and steer clear of my former favorite grilled chicken. read more

I have been looking for an Italian restaurant that isn't like Olive Garden. My go to Italian is Bella's but that is far out on South Howard. This place was pretty understaffed last night, but the hospitality was great and made up for it. Our waiter offered us a free sangria! I ordered the calamari as an appetizer, wasn't too bad. My fiancé ordered the Alfredo and said it was pretty darn good. I ordered the pasta that had seafood in it, not sure what the name was... it was their specialty... man oh man... it was delicious!
