For ordering food that you pick up yourself, they're actually a good resource for the Ithaca area, representing almost all of the really good restaurants that offer takeout. For delivery, we've tried them twice, and both times they have been utterly useless. Two hours wait the first time. 2 1/2 hours, and counting, for the current -- and final -- attempt. Restaurant tells me the driver left there an hour ago. It is impossible to reach anyone by phone, and since at least six months ago, the voicemail "has not been set up yet", according to the AT&T robot. read more

They're now charging me a $5 distance fee even though they never had before, Woo, $26 in fees. As if it wasn't bad enough already. You know a company has terrible practices when one of its own employees confides, "This is not how a business is supposed to be run." This is exactly what one of Ithaca to Go's employees told us after 5 phone calls over 3 days trying to get a refund for an incorrect entree. (My partner and I ordered four dishes off the vegetarian menu, and we were sent an entree with meat, which we could not eat without getting violently sick.) We just wanted the $8 back for the incorrectly delivered item; we were happy to pay for the rest of the order, including the exorbitant fees the company charges--a $5 delivery fee and a $4 service fee! After trying to talk to the manager 5 times because apparently only the manager could authorize refunds, we got sick of dealing with Ithaca to Go and decided to just request a chargeback on our credit card. We immediately got a call back (still not the manager) and were told that if we contest the charge, we would be banned from using their service in the future. Oh no! Whatever shall we do? Who is going to treat us terribly and nickel-and-dime us for every little thing now? This company doesn't realize that it's not the only delivery service in town anymore; there are also Seamless and GrubHub (which don't charge nearly as much for delivery and don't have mysterious "service fees"), and lots of restaurants have their own delivery drivers as well now. We're just baffled by what terrible business sense Ithaca to Go has. We've been customers for 5 years and have spent thousands of dollars at this business. Very uneven product. I have previously enjoyed their burgers; however, tonight's experience was certainly not worth the price. I ordered a rare burger, and it came quite overdone. The bun had neither been toasted nor mayonnaise's, making it dry beyond belief. Quite bush league. SpaceThe fries had no ketchup, which I specifically requested. Very disappointed first time customer! I ordered food through Ithaca To Go for the first time. When I opened the package I found out it was not the food that I ordered. They delivered wrong package to me. Then I called them, the rep was nice and offered me two options, one they can resubmit my order but that would take more than 2 hours to wait; or I can eat what I get and they would give me $25 refund of my $53 purchase. I chose the second option. During the following two weeks, I called the office more than 10 times asking for the promised refund. $25 is really not a big deal, but their attitude and poor customer service got me really disappointed. The rep promised "Sir I'll do it right away" "Sir I'm leaving a message to my manager and she would call you this afternoon".......... Nothing happened after 10 promises. To the owner of Ithaca To Go, you certainly can keep this $25 but you lose me as a returning customer and many other people who are reading this review. Please compare the $25 gain v.s. the loss of future businesses, not a smart decision! To people who are using the company's service, I understand that people do make mistakes, admit it and fix it would make customers happy. Pros: They deliver food from some of the best restaurants in Ithaca (the ones that don't deliver) for a reasonable fee. Depending on the restaurant you choose, your food often arrives quickly and the drivers are quite courteous. When the delivery is slow, it is usually the restaurant's fault. I often see Ithaca to go drivers waiting at restaurants while I am eating out. Cons: Their online and phone customer service is a bit lacking. If for some reason the delivery is slower than promised, an item is missing, or you have a special discount promotion, expect none of these issues to be resolved by Ithaca to go. They may promise a refund, they may promise to apply your "Ithaca car share discount" which is supposedly $2 off delivery for all car share members, but if you check your credit card these things never happen. The most annoying thing is that they keep on wasting my time with false promises, which leads to multiple calls on my part. I'd rather they just be honest and say "We don't accept the car share discount anymore, please contact car share so they know to stop promoting our business" or "sorry our system doesn't allow for refunds, here is a coupon code or how about I place a free second order for you". read more

Great idea, terrible implementation. They used to be fairly decent. Over the past 3 years or so they really have provided terrible service. Food is always delivered very late now. Delivery estimates are never updated so we end up waiting an hour or more past the first estimate. With cold food typically. Customer service always says they are short staffed. They should not be taking orders if they don't have enough delivery staff and they should keep their customers updated with status updates. In theory, Ithaca to go is a great service- it promotes local restaurants, and is a good local alternative to larger delivery services in a town that's all about keeping it local. In practice though, it's not so great. The wait times are extremely long- you're going to be waiting over an hour for your food. And even then, your food might come much later than your estimated delivery time (my last successful order was delivered 20 minutes late). The delivery charge is ridiculous- $5 delivery fee for a $6 sandwich? The higher charge might be appropriate for some of the more upscale options on their roster (think Moosewood), but it's not worth it for a Moe's burrito or a waffle from Waffle Frolic. And the customer service, both from the drivers and phone reps, has really gone downhill. Two years of ordering without a hitch, but in the last six months I've had multiple canceled orders due to their lack of proper management, orders missing items, and extremely late delivery drivers. One weekend, my drink spilled in transit and I only received about 1/4 of the beverage I paid for- I got nothing but an awkward 'Sorry' until I pushed for a refund- and even then, it was only on the drink, not the meal or the delivery fee. The next weekend, I was called 45 minutes after placing an order and was told they had waited too long to put my order in because they didn't have enough drivers, and the restaurant had closed before they put in the order. Again, just an awkward I'm sorry- no offer to discount or comp my next meal, nothing. If I could give Ithaca To Go zero stars, I would! I live in the outskirts of Ithaca, so Ithaca To Go charges me a distance fee on top of their other fees, which is fine. I order here often to avoid driving to downtown, but I've had way too many negative experiences, at this point. If they are "too busy," they tend to cancel my order, which doesn't make any sense to me, as I am paying an extra fee for the distance. Instead of calling their customers, they will email, so I could potentially be waiting for my food for a while unless I check my email. To me, this is just poor customer service. read more

Thinking I was purchasing a gift card for a local restaurant I misunderstood and actually purchased it for Ithaca To Go. I called explained the honest mistake I made and requested a refund. The gal I spoke with called me back stating she spoke with the owner , they would refund my $, she explained the gift card was inactivated and I should see the credit to my account. Not seeing the credit, after a couple of weeks I called again. This time a spoke with a young man, he said I would expect a call back and probably the refund is just taking longer due to bank reasons. The item missing was for the one person in our family with major dietary restrictions due yo health reasons. They delivered the incomplete order cold and refused to refund the delivery fee. But get this: their customer service policy for handling their *own* delivery mistakes is to charge the *customer* again for a "re-delivery fee" on the item that they forgot to include in the original order. As I did not want to pay two delivery fees just to get 1 complete order, I then asked about a refund or a credit/coupon for my next order. Apparently this must be really complicated on their end, because the phone rep I spoke to had no idea how to do either of those things and could only promise to leave a note for somebody to maybe take a look at another day. Thanks soooo much for resolving the issue in a prompt and satisfactory manner! As a frequent supporter of countless local businesses, I feel it makes such good business sense to keep as many dollars within our community as possible, whenever possible. Naturally, there are exceptions, but when choosing between GrubHub or Ithaca to Go, I want to support the latter more than the former. I also know that it's a competitive market, so I'd think that Ithaca to Go would be putting its best foot forward as much as possible in terms of customer relations, best practices, and customer satisfaction. In the past, I had a problem with a menu item from Aladdin's not being the same offering or pricing structure as on the Ithaca to Go website (e.g., the website included only pasta choices that cost money instead of pasta choices that were included with the main dish )...it took two attempts to troubleshoot this and finally - after several attempts, messages, and phone calls, a generous credit was placed on my account with their thanks. I wondered, later, too, if this was accidental or intentional - for instance, how many customers read the restaurant's menu, compare prices, and realize that Ithaca to Go was only offering the up-sell and not the pasta that was included with the regular price? But, let me not be a pessimist or alarmist. I went back, business as usual, to ordering from them, particularly since this is often a lifesaver for busy parents who want to serve any wide variety of nutritious offerings but may not have time to cook. However, it doesn't work if we're cheated out of money. For instance, last month, I ordered special desserts for my daughter and myself, for a very special occasion. The desserts arrived with missing ingredients. I texted the driver but he said he couldn't troubleshoot the matter. I wrote them in two places last month - their "chat" window and FB messenger. Still no response to an issue from mid-October. Today, on the telephone, I was told that "the owner" would determine the matter and "get back to me about what she might do." What she *might* do? I reminded the person that it's actually the law to make good on a customer not receiving what a customer has ordered. Clearly, this business must figure itself out in terms of best practices. The customer cannot pay for items that they don't receive, nor should I be waiting to hear back on what "might" happen. I have been cheated out of my money, my queries not responded to, and to this moment, there has been no call back from "the owner." Let's be clear, too, owners and top managers must empower their people to be able to troubleshoot problems without contacting them. I'm sure the person on the line is presumably tired of fielding customers' upsets when they do not receive the correct orders. Sorry to say this, but Ithaca to Go is going to be just that - something "gone" and not enduring, because customers today have many, many choices and gone are the days in which they just pick a local brand because they find it endearing. Money talks, b.s. walks. I won't be guilted into buying local for the sake of buying local. I will buy from the company that values my time, doesn't need me to chase them down for refunds, empowers their employees to make decisions without contacting owners, and refunds my money quickly when there are errors, without undue bureaucratic woo-woo, excuses, and lagtime. read more

I wanted to order Chinese food for dinner, unfortunately, the only way Ithaca to go will deliver to me, a single person is if I spend a minimum of $30 in food, $25 for some places. If I WANTED to spend that much money I would order an Uber and go to a real restaruant. Given the small town we live in, Ithaca To Go should realize that customer service is the key to success. Shame on them for repeatedly lying about the time when their driver has picked up the food and being well OVER ONE HOUR LATE in delivering food. Case in point: Tonight we ordered our food at 6:40. Supposed to arrive at 7:40. The website said the food was picked up at 8:07 (outside estimated delivery window, mind you). Okay, so maybe because there's snow on the road, they're busy. We'll just have to accept that. NO! This is Ithaca. At the latest, a 8:07 pickup would mean delivery by 8:20. That's being super generous. It's now 8:55 and no food. We called the restaurant and they said the driver just showed up. This means that the updates they provide customers online are fabricated. They have no ethical standards. They are unapologetic. People don't answer their customer service number or email. This means: 1) you will be disappointed, and end up HANGRY; and 2) they will go out of business soon. If you want to order from one of their restaurants, call the restaurant first and ask who else delivers for them. We learned tonight that another delivery service (that's not as visible) will deliver from this restaurant. Sold. We will always use them from now on. As it happens, I live in California so it is very unlikely that I would order food to go from a restaurant in Ithaca, NY. I called Ithaca to go and they were unhelpful and hung up on me.
