Spoiler alert: the man is the consummate professional. The level of detail this guy focuses on is insane. The floral decorations on the bar top and the hors d'oeuvre platters come to mind. The whole experience was elevated because of the catering - the food, drinks, service, and presentation created a legit classy atmosphere. I felt like we were at a Hollywood premier reception - very fancy. I almost forgot to talk about the food itself lol! The reason we chose Scott in the first place was because we loved his dishes. We were impressed with the tasting menu meeting and selected our menu. When the day came...everything was so delicious! Here's the real proof. As hosts, we rarely get to eat much of the food at the event itself. We are too busy entertaining and talking with visiting family. THANK GOD they send the leftovers home with us! Let me tell you...working our way through the leftovers...was like...reading a love letter. Every dish was so good, so carefully and lovingly made, with only quality ingredients. The quality and care invested in each dish was literally palatable in every bite. The wait staff was professional and friendly. Scott himself was present and supervising everything. The pricing was reasonable. Scott is personable and friendly. The night of the event, again, everything went smoothly. The buffet layouts were good. The bar and wait staff were good. The table settings were fancy and elegant. Everything was timed correctly. And omg the food. My son ate like 6-7 of the tuna tartare's. The salmon teriyaki skewers were my favorite appetizer. Having spent 22 years in the food service industry myself, I'm not easily impressed--but the presentation, flavors, and overall execution were exceptional. Every item was fantastic. The bruschetta with goat cream cheese was fresh and perfectly balanced. The seared ahi tuna bites were beautifully prepared, and the shrimp spring rolls with ginger peanut sauce were bursting with flavor. Even the flatbread pizza with Caesar salad was spot-on. One great dish after another--we were honestly stuffed by the end of the night. What stood out most was the attention to detail and restaurant-quality presentation, something you rarely see at private catered events. A big reason to pick Urban Taco is that the website was straightforward with food packages spelled out. Other websites ask you to call for a quote, which is time consuming, inconvenient, awkward, and questionable, as you wonder if the prices are negotiable or not. "Hey, yeah, for YOU, I'll throw in the lettuce..." When I confirmed my quote, there were no surprise fees added, like "apron tax", "taco processing", or "fart disposal fee". Just tax. And was told there would be a $55 travel charge, but that seemed reasonable considering their drive down the 405 from Chatsworth to Seal Beach. Francine is not, how can I put this--- "excessively bubbly". On a bubbly scale with champagne in a blender being the top, she's closer to ice. I'm not saying she isn't friendly, but do not expect excessive bubbly-ness. She is, however, straightforward, clear, precise, accommodating, and contacts you via phone and email, and I appreciate her service. I didn't have time to evaluate them precisely, as I was kinda busy publicly vowing to 88 friends (and a guy named Ryan Alari) my dying eternal and legally binding love to some hot chick, BUT here's what I remember: They were on time. They were friendly. The presentation was good, and the food... The food was good and plentiful. We got the steak, fish, and shrimp tacos. For sides we got refried beans (not as healthy, but I wanted some WEIGHT on the plate) and Mexican rice. We made our own salad and opted for their guacamole for the side, which is just too pricey to buy on your own. It was a great call: I HAVE NOT HAD BETTER GUACAMOLE anywhere- it was chunky but creamy and fresh, a bit like Chronic Tacos. Get the guac as a side! I do have to say that the churros were cold. Yummy, but cold. (Maybe they were too close to Francine... I kid!!) I won't mark them down for that since we ate later than expected, so maybe that's my fault, but I advise that you get a chafing dish for the churros, unless that's something they will provide. Another reason for five stars: we had more than enough food, and one of my biggest regrets that night, besides inviting Ryan, was not designating who took the food. I woke up the next morning with a trunk full of car meat. It haunts me to this day that I did not eat it all.

We do have a budget for our annual department…read morelunches and, depending on the restaurant, we often end up with a meager amount of food with JUST enough for everyone. This was far, far from that...huge trays of *EVERYTHING* with tons of left-overs. Usually our meals are to feed about 40 people...our office has about 80 people and there was so much left over that we opened it up to everyone else. There was easily $800-900 worth of food delivered, but I think they may have only charged $500'ish. The individual who coordinates the department lunches said that the order came in under budget! Truly amazing. We will definitely be using them again in the future - everything tasted great. I LOVE businesses like this...they don't charge much, but they get tons of repeat business and are in high demand because of customer loyalty. It's an alternative way of making a lot of profits...versus other restaurants who charge a fortune and then wonder why they start losing customers. They served 4 kinds of meat for the tacos, plus tons of beans, rice, tortillas, and salad. And a big pan of cookies as well (unexpected, but a nice treat.)

Unfortunately, the prices are very high, and recent experiences have made it impossible to justify continuing to order from here. The final straw was the $6 extra meat add-on, which is advertised as 8 oz. We weighed it at home and it came in at 6.5 oz with the container and only 5.6 oz without it. That is a significant difference and, frankly, feels like false advertising, especially at these prices. My husband carefully measures all of the food he eats, so this isn't a guess or a casual estimate, it's a verified shortfall. In addition, we ordered the food and it was ready 15 mins before they said it would be. This would be great if I didn't live 10 minutes away. This sadly led to soggy food. When you're already paying a premium, accuracy and honesty matter. Being shorted on portion sizes while being charged top dollar is unfair and leaves a bad taste, no matter how good the food itself is. Because of the high prices and misleading portion claims, we won't be returning, which is a shame because the food really is good. If the pricing matched the portions, or the portions matched what's advertised, this would be a different review. Sadly, as it stands, we can't recommend it or continue ordering.
