This community is much better under the new management team. For anyone who may have been diswayed by my previous review, the incompetent and callous team of Danyele and whatever the woman's name was, either left the company or moved on to ruin another community. The current management team is superb, neighbors are great, there are quite a bit of amenities, plenty to do in the area, consistent maintenance and upkeep of the property. Speaking of amenities, my only wish is that the weight room would open earlier. 8 am is much too late for anyone who works a regular shift to actually be able to use it. Up until a few months ago, I was one of few people who seemed to make any consistent use of it. It's far too hot to use in the evenings in the summers. And during times when there are tenants who use it, it's too small to accommodate people in the evenings (which again is the only reasonable time people could use it.) For those reasons, I don't see it getting much use at all. It may as well be converted to something else because no one can use it. read more

I am very glad to be here. it is an older property but then so am I! pool is nice when water is warm. the holiday get together events hosted by the staff are nice opportunities for neighbors to connect and socialize. Truly I feel like I am in a village. most of my neighbors are long term residents. And everyone is pleasant with greetings etc. maybe just my being retired makes me enjoy life more? Still this was hands down my choice when sudden divorce forced my move!! Shopping is just a short walk as are fast food options again glad to be here and celebrate life in a quiet way!! read more

We've lived at Ivanhoe Village Apartments for 8 years. It has been a positive experience in every regard. Despite corporate ownership changes we have always been happy to live here. Rent is a bit steep, but comparable for what we have. Management is courteous, helpful and available. The Maintenance crew, headed by by Eli has always been quick to resolve the few issues we've had. I would not hesitate to recommend Ivanhoe to any renter. We're also not moving, as it really is that good. read more

I cannot emphasize enough how much you should not move here, especially if you have a family. This is not a safe residence. The water is regularly shut off with less than 24 hours notice, there are cockroaches in the hallways and laundry facility, and there are multiple residents here who create a very unsafe atmosphere. Most notably, one resident who runs around the parking lot screaming and threatening other residents. Sometimes he does this during the day, and sometimes he wakes us up in the middle of the night. Management is constantly changing and they are very difficult to get in contact with because they do not answer the phone and are closed on the weekends. The only times I have been able to get in contact with the office is if I take time off work and go into the office during the week. The equipment in the gym is always broken. They've been saying they will replace it for over a year now. While they did replace the cardio equipment, the rest is still broken. Over six months ago management told residents they will get us Amazon Lockers for our packages to help combat theft within the residence, and that has still not happened. When speaking to management, it's very clear they do not care about the residents living here. They speak over you and disregard any questions or concerns you have. Rent is rather low here compared to the surrounding area, so if you are single with no children and looking for a place to live short term to save some money, this may be a good pace for you. If you are looking for a place to live longer term, or have anyone living with you that you care about, I do not recommend moving here. read more

I've lived here for almost two years now and this is the worst place I've ever lived. The units are old, appliances are old (and often don't work), and management is very incompetent to say the least. Management: There have been 5 different property managers in less than two years with each one less knowledgeable than the last. They do not pick up the phone, do not return voicemails, work short hours, and are closed on weekends. The best way to get in contact with them is to take time off work and go into the office physically, and hope someone is there. They genuinely know nothing about the property or what's going on in any of the units. They shut off the water every month and we haven't had working gas in more than 3 weeks (no stovetop, oven, heater). Rent is high despite the quality being sub-par because they know that people have to live somewhere. The neighbors: Many people here smoke, and despite the numerous signs that this is a nonsmoking building, and to be a certain number of feet away, no one abides by the signs and management does not actually enforce it. There have been multiple altercations in the parking lot between residents. There is a man who lives here (he runs on all fours after cars, screams, and threatens people) and harasses my wife. read more

BEWARE, AND STAY AWAY FROM THIS DUMP! By far, the WORST place I've ever lived in my 57 years of life. I lived there for 6 months and am SO thankful to be out of there. My roommate and I had to move out as they raised the rent by an outrageous amount, which, according to other tenants we spoke with, they do every single year and don't even make any upgrades to compensate. The new management is incredibly corrupt, dishonest, greedy, incompetent and heartless. They NEVER return your phone calls, and were often MIA during supposed "open" office hours. My roommate and I spent TWO WHOLE DAYS cleaning that place from top to bottom. I even strained my neck in the process, thus having to miss two days of work. We left NO damage whatsoever. Yet they STILL refuse to refund even a penny of our hard-earned $750, claiming they had to spend 8 hours cleaning our place. WTF? The only thing we did not have time to clean were the windows and the blinds. Yet no way in hell would those take 8 hours to clean, unless the housekeepers dawdled and took their sweet time?? Plus $200 to repaint!! Besides this, they have POPCORN CEILINGS. Don't they realize these can leak asbestos, which is hazardous to your health?? And my bathroom had this pull down chain from the ceiling to activate the fan. Talk about archaic. Both of our bathrooms only had 1 socket, so we would have to unplug our toothbrush every time we wanted to plug in something else. ALL of the drawers and cabinets in the apt would stick when trying to open them due to gazillion layers of paint. The vertical blinds were SO cheap that any time we tried to gently open them at least 1 would fall off. So we just gave up and left them closed after awhile. I spoke with my brother-in-law, who just so happens to be a real estate attorney, and he said we would definitely have a valid case in small claims court. Planning to file asap, not only for our deposit to be returned, but to be compensated for the emotional distress we've both endured from this situation. The worst management i have ever worked with in my entire life. Day 1: Could not get me checked in on my move in day early in the morning in order for my movers to move my belongings as scheduled because of their "morning breifs with corporate" even though i started paying rent on that day and on top of that i was told my check in time could be as early as possible by an assistant manager and when I brought the issue up they claimed it was a lack of training for the new assistant manager and that she did not know any better. Maintenance parks where ever the fuck they like , they parked in my reserved spot for 2 hours with no one in sight to answer for this. The manager is impossible to get a hold of even though i was told she lives on the property she is literally in the office if i had to guess maybe 5 minutes of the 8 hours their office is open. Everyone else in the office is clueless to anything going on in the property. Another dat My water was randomly turned off in the afternoon while my girlfriend was in the shower with soap applied right before work and I got no help by calling maintenance or going to the leasing office. My apartment is comfortable but the lack of management happening on this complex should really make the review of this place 0 stars but yelp doesn't allow for that. Ivanhoe Village Apartments - Maintenance parked like a pro today - Apartments Near Me - El Cajon, California

These people are shady. The property looks nice from the road. The price point is attractive, but the complex is run by corporate slum lords who have no idea what they're doing. My fiance and I were taken on a tour and shown their "heated pool" that's has never once been heated once in the year we lived there. We were shown a gym, but not told all the appliances were broken. They showed us a model u 2 bed unit with stainless steel appliances, new cabinets, and a walk in closet, but on move in day discovered it was a completely different floor plan, old cabinets caked in paint, dated white appliances, and no walk in closet. One bedroom was half the size of the unit they showed us. On top of this, the shower didn't drain, the cabinets were sticky from the paint, one of our bathroom sinks was crooked and leaked. We had them in for several maintenance requests, they never sent skilled trades people. Instead, they have their on-site maintenance guy do everything, and he is incompetent. He came several times to our apartment and either didn't fix things because "they were fine" or did an overall terrible job. The last time we had him fix the kitchen sink, he left two burners lit on high and left our apartment. We were gone for several hours and came home to a furnace. His explanation was "oh it smelled like gas so I turned them on to burn it off. I must have forgot to come back and turn them off, I'm sorry". . . Probably the biggest issue is their convoluted parking rules. They towed my personal vehicle and said it was because it was parked in the same space for more than 3 days. This was not posted anywhere, and not enforced. We had been on vacations in the past and not been towed, but one day they towed me without notice and it cost me $700. They would not provide any evidence that notice was given or any explanation for why they didn't simply call me and ask me to move car. In summary DONT MOVE HERE!! It's cheap for a reason. read more

Do not bother renting from this place. Maria, who seems to be in charge is not very personable. They made us jump through hoops to try and rent there. Things I'd never been asked to do before. The carpet in the hall ways are shabby and stained. The elevator makes a scary sound and bumping motion. The apartments are large and the price is low. This apartment complex is awful. They won't repaint no matter how long you have been there, or replace the carpet in the (entire) apartment. The cupboards were so old they wouldn't stay shut. The tub was redone three times, but within a month it was peeling again. I can't say anything nice about the management. Very impersonal. So much wrong, I won't bore you with the list. It's important to look at the dates of reviews before evaluating a review. In addition, though it is hard to do, you might consider the source. I've known some of the bad reviewers, and they were, simply put, bad tenants, the kind you're glad to see leave the place. As of January 2021, and having lived here over two years, I can say that the management has improved a lot. The previous manager was indeed a bit slow to respond, but this was not her fault, rather the policies of the owners. Ownership has changed, as well as managers, and there is an increased focus on meeting tenant's needs. Danyele, the new manager, is quick to respond, even during COVID, and her crew is top-notch. Eli, David, Albenino, and the rest of the maintenance guys usually take care of any issues the same day. Most importantly, they LISTEN to what your issues are, and doe their best to find a good solution. For example, our washing machine malfunctioned and was immediately replaced with a newer one. Any complaints you have with other tenants are handled discretely and anonymously, so there are no negative consequences. Danyele usually gets back to you by text, or email within an hour; a day at the outside. You will not be ignored. Parking has been revised and is only for tenants now, and spaces in addition to your assigned space, are almost always available. The grounds are well-kept, the pool is always clean, and even in the heat of summer, not over-crowded. The gym is decent, and before COVID was convenient and meets your needs to maintain health. If you need more exercise than what we have here, you really need to find a commercial gym (like Crunch Parkway Plaza which is 5 minutes away. Dog owners clean up after their pets, though mistakes are bound to happen every now and then. The rent is on par with the community, and you get a lot of square-feet for your dollar. Yes, the units are older, but most are in good shape. An added plus is that you will be close to all shopping, and freeway access. All in all, we are very happy here, and plan to stay for the foreseeable future. read more

I especially love how the manager is very professional when handling any issues I have. And she always greets me when I'm going on my morning walk and pass by the office. Great work guys! It's alright, for the price though, I'm pretty sure you can find better. My wife and I had the two bedroom and I felt like the layout was very odd. The fact that you can only get to the back patio through the small bedroom makes it useless. They are pretty good about service requests although it felt like we had to strong arm them a couple of times. And just like any apartment complex, they take the cheapest route. Although the three bedrooms appear to be nice since they are basically their own house. They also have central AC, washer, and dryer. The other configurations do not. read more

This place is horrible. I've lived here a few years and suffered through rats, huge cockroaches but the flood was the end. The plumbing is very old, expect leaks and backing up toilets. The management is horrible they lie about everything. My shower is broken they told me to shower at the pool. The pool is filled with algae as the pool guy is trying to fix the pump. Had give one star I have only lived here for about a year and have several issues not family friendly relatives or guests have to park almost a mile away or they will be towed, they waited till after the fine period to tell us that the electronic deposit set on there website did not go thru so we had to pay the late fee, the laundry room is infested with silver fish and roaches, will walking prospective renters they tell them they spray for pests monthly but haven't done so the entire time we've lived here that's nov 2015 to now, the list of maintenance calls required is way more than I would have though porch light didn't work 2 weeks to fix dish washer failed month later replaced with old one with food in the bottom no in unit washer and dryer hook ups but three Bedrooms have some out side the front door, site management is like talking to inhuman rocks who have a hard time speaking English and understanding it or it could be they just do everything a day late and a dollar short, they didn't do an inspection of the heater as required didn't even stop by to set it up to run power and gas off I have small children really, rats have destroyed all our holiday decor in there storage, the gym has been stripped to bare bones it's like working out in a 14 year olds home mad basement gym, again staff is always changing except the old bag that should go she may be to old to have a job not sure she does anything but collect a paycheck and sign up more unfortunately unknowing renters, no bathroom fans but warns about mold and using them in the lease? Most pathetic excuse for an apartment "home" ever. I only gave them one star because I couldn't give zero. Parking works if you only have one car. If you have two, you have to fight for a parking spot or park on the street. They told us there was plenty of parking because that's what they thought we wanted to hear at the tour. We have had to call maintenance out here more times in 4 months than I have in the 22 years I've been renting apartments. For example, neither shower worked on move in day, dishwasher was broken on move in day, dining room window fell out of its tracks, screens were broken, front door still doesn't close properly, they came in twice to fix a light and fixed one that wasn't broken, and the list goes on and on. I wish I could afford to break my lease. And the people in the office always point fingers, nothing is their fault. Be careful when moving in, they'll show you a model and not your actual unit because your actual unit looks NOTHING like the one they show. The one they show is in one piece. They are so tragic that they had to bribe the residents with a raffle entry for a months free rent for doing a yelp review. Bribery usually works, but I had to be honest. To any prospective renters - run. Think they'll enter my name in the drawing? Ha! read more

If only I can give 0 star. This apartment complex is a joke. My husband and I are finally out of this place and living in a way SAFER and QUIETER place. This is not worth your money, everything was always broken even after it was "fixed". Water was always being shut off, huge waterbugs infestation in and around the building. Parking is pretty much for everyone instead of just residents. Water is not cheap here at all, it's roughly about $100 every month and water pressure sucks. My grandma's bladder is stronger than the water pressure here. Our biggest issue here is that we moved out a month and half ago and we're getting letter saying we're gonna be on collection list because the agency hasn't received our payment when my husband and I stopped by Ivanhoe office and personally gave the check to the manager a month ago and it is yet to be resolved. ANYONE reading this, do yourself a favor and take your hard earned money elsewhere. read more

WOW! 5 Star Staff and 5 Star Living. My girlfriend and I moved in less than one week ago and we are so thankful to be living here. We visited Ivanhoe Village Apartments several months ago and spoke with Daniel in the leasing office. Daniel went above and beyond to contact us when apartments became available. He was very knowledgable and patient with all our questions(This was the first time moving out of our parents house and had a lot to learn). The service he provided was phenomenal! We arrived on move in day and were confronted by two different staff members on the service team Enrique and Fernando. They saw we were struggling and offered us equipment they had handy to help ease the pain and challenges that come along with moving. The complex is very clean and welcoming due to these hard working Men. Everyday they are working hard on something and greet us with a smile. Today was day six and we locked our selves out of our apartment. We went to the leasing manager's on site residence, interrupting her personal time and she immediately came to the rescue. We feel so blessed to be living in this community supported by a staff that already feels like family. Thank you Ivanhoe Village Staff for making the difference! read more

I don't even know where to start with my complaints about this horrible place. Moved here 3 months ago and in those 3 months my husband and I have had put in 9 maintenance forms due our apartment was in a bad shape and as well as our appliances. We didn't have a light in the closet. Fridge kept leaking too many times and every time we put in a work order the maintenance guys only said it's fine then after a day the leaking starts again. I complained until they replaced it with a USED refrigerator that also kept giving us the same problem. So I had to complain about that too many more times before we finally got a new fridge that doesn't leak anymore. Our AC is falling apart and I have a medical condition that needs me to have an AC pretty much 24/7 and that only works out a few hours everyday because even on low energy save mode, our AC would just freeze up literally and stop working so we have to turn it off. Heat causes me to relapse. I have mentioned my medical condition to the staff but they're not very considerate about people with medical problems here apparently. ROACHES... I'm talking about HUGE FLYING ROACHES, always in our bathroom and in the hallway outside our apartment. We have killed so many of these in the last 3 months, pest control doesn't work. When Blanche was the manager, everything was good but when the new manager took over a month later after we moved in, people who didn't live here would park in residents parking, pool hours aren't being followed, security is horrible, we almost had a break in, too many times I've heard our front door handle being rattled as if being tried to open (in the middle of the night), people stopped following policies in this apartment place and the manager doesn't even care. I have a service dog and she looked at my service dog with disgust. Parking is overall just horrible besides the fact that visitors would park in residents parking spaces, they're letting people rent two carport for 1 car and when I asked them if I can have a closer parking since my carport is all the way on the other side they said I'd have to be on the waiting list or just keep calling the office everyday and ask, but they never took my information to be put on the waiting list. They cut trees as early as 7am, just like some people who work late as midnight like me who barely get enough sleep, I woke up one damn morning to trees being sawed and put in the wood chipper right outside our bedroom window. The management here truly sucks!!! I cannot wait for our lease to be over get tf out of this hell. My piece of advice, FIND SOMETHING BETTER THAN THIS VERY OLD BUILDING TO LIVE IN, IT IS NOT WORTH IT HERE AT ALL. YOU WILL REGRET IT!!! read more

This place is dump. Don't be deceived by the pool area. The interior of my apartment is outdated, light fixtures don't work and the back is full of 10 foot high weeds that they won't clear out.The management is horrible to top it all off. They also just upped the rent to 1750 for a two bedroom, my buddy has a nicer, upgraded apartment down the street for $1400, so don't waste your time here . Ive only been living here for a month and already i have had to call maintenance 4 times to fix hinges off cabinets and closets that just fall apart when we try to open them. Also our AC unit thermostat was broken and all they did to fix it was wrap tape around it.. Like seriously ?! They also tried to blame US for the hinges falling off saying that it looked like someone was pulling them too hard... Like who in their right mind would try to purposefully break their own homes cabinetry... Thats so naive of their manager Blanche. so expensive for an outdated cottage! the management is terrible & wont fix a thing, one neighbor died from a drug overdose & they didn't find him for a week even though we all complained about the smell. there was a drug bust on another neighbor & it's just not safe at all. it's crazy , one child got hit by a car because everyone drives fast thru there. it's just one of the worse places to live. read more

This complex is run by a national property management company. Any issues are handled through a call center even though they do have staff on-site. It's very clear this company has no concern for it's tenants. For example they have just notified us that the pool area will be closed from May 8th to June 6th to upgrade. Really? Couldn't they have done the work in the winter when it's not being used. As far as the units go, the complex is old and poorly built. The walls are so thin I hear my neighbor snoring. The water is often turned off for between 2-4 hours at a time for plumbing problems. There are many other issues too but certainly the point is this is an uncaring environment with poorly built units. read more
