Panko Breaded Fish Sandwich -$8.99 through 1/1/25
    Carol C.

Visited Ivar's on a Sunday night to take advantage of their Panko Breaded Fish Sandwich special for $8.99 with fries or $7.99 sandwich only. I requested a side of onion rings instead instead of fries and was not charged anything additional. The fish sandwich was good - a nice portion of cod that was crispy and cooked to perfection. The onion rings were also delicious. My only issue would be that the Hawaiian bun was not fresh, warmed or toasted. The hard bun did not complement the freshly fried fish. The service was friendly and quick. The Panko Breaded Fish Sandwich special will run until the new year - Jan. '25.

My parents and I ordered delivery from the Ivar's Seafood Bar in Edmonds today, Saturday 26 August 2023, for dinner. Online ordering was straightforward and when placing the order pictures of the menu item were displayed alongside the item description. We went with a couple of sides, tartar sauce, my parents shared a cod and chips, and I got the four piece salmon and chips. The wait time was about 20 minutes with delivery, we were about 1.8 miles from the restaurant. The delivery woman was friendly and the items we ordered arrived in good condition. Warm food items were still warm, while the cooled items, such as the coleslaw, were still cool. The salmon had a strong salmon flavor with a thin batter and was not overly fried. Both the salmon and cod were flaky, the cod more so. Fries were thin and softer texturally, which I enjoyed. Tartar sauce was less intense in flavor and paired well both with the salmon and the fries. The serving sizes were just right for our dinner.

This is a good Ivar's Seafood Bar location. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food met my expectations. The restaurant was out of the jumbo prawns when I visited, but overall the rest of my order was good.

Whenever I come home to Seattle, I make it a point to eat at Ivar's. The cod and halibut with chips are generally my favorites. Either way you get flavorful fish that flake apart, with a thin breadcrumb-style breading that clings to the filet without being thick and doughy. This style yields a crisp bite that makes the fresh fish the star, and it's never oily. The white chowder is really creamy - I'd add more fresh pepper if I were making it for myself - and the fries have changed to a much thinner cut than that of my childhood. But the rest hasn't changed! This particular location is usually half full for dine-in around lunchtime. The busy / overworked front of house does nevertheless get orders right and brings your food to you if you dine in.

For decades I have always enjoyed the food at Ivar's restaurant, no matter where or which restaurant location I would eat at. For the same amount of time I've always thought that they were very overpriced for what they serve. However, no one makes fish the way they do and as tasty as they do. They take cod or salmon and make it quite delicious, and they always have. I like their chowder pretty good, I don't eat their French fries, or anything else but the fish is quite delicious. This restaurant has ample parking and is pretty easy to get to. It's just a bit more rundown in that it could use some sprucing up. It has a feel as if it's been there for quite some time and just needs the polishing to make it look and feel more up to date. On this visit I was part of a crowd of people on the lunch hour but they are very efficient and move people through very quickly. I really appreciated the young cashier as she was on point with taking care of the customers. Not much more that can be said about ivars. It's a staple in Seattle and they don't miss with the flavor of the fish. For decades it's always tasted the same and fortunately it's always been tasty.

We ordered a 5 piece Cod Fish and Chips takeout. When we opened up the order the pieces were small, some 1" in width with the crust. The pieces were broken. The fries were soggy and limp. We had to fry them at home to get any crispness. A child's order? Or, do takeouts get less quality and care? We will not be ordering again. We have lived here and eaten here for almost 60 years. 2 Star rating at the most!

I love Ivars!!! I'd like to give a shout out to Bonnie, Thank you for the nice treat! Stopped by for lunch and you guessed it, I ordered the seafood combo. The staff was nice & awesome as always, service was fast. Let me tell you my clams were on point! Beautiful color, crunchy and oh sooo yummy. The entire meal was cooked to perfection, Ivars didn't disappoint. It's nice to know that Ivars really cares about their customers and I'm proud to be a regular here. I highly recommend :)

I wish I could give this place 6 stars *and I don't say that for almost anything. This salmon could have been served at one of the nicest restaurants I've ever been to and I wouldn't have questioned it! The salmon had this nice crisp on the outside while still being moist and not at all dry on the inside. On top of that, the flavor profile was perfect. I typically like a little lemon on my salmon, but I forgot about the lemon sitting right in front of me because it was just THAT good! Commentary specific to COVID times: everyone was socially distanced and the staff wore gloves and masks. It was nice, we ordered and then the meal was brought out to our car where we sat anxiously waiting. Overall, I can't recommend this place enough! ...oh and on top of all that, did you know?? The heir of Ivars didn't have any heirs, so he donated all proceeds to University of Washington and Washington State University! Makes me want to support this local business that much more!!

We ordered an abundant spread, and every dish impressed. The clear crowd favorite was the Singapore black pepper prawns - fragrant, perfectly spiced, and completely addictive. That black pepper sauce was hands down the star of the meal: rich, peppery, and deeply flavorful. It was my favorite and could easily be eaten on everything. The Mala curry crab and XO crab were both outstanding; layered with complex, indulgent flavors. The Thai green chili clams and saus mentega clams were vibrant and comforting, while the crab fried rice had generous morsels of crab folded throughout the dish. We also really enjoyed the Indonesian chicken wings, which were crispy and flavorful, and the stir-fried vegetables, which added a fresh, well-balanced contrast to the seafood-heavy menu. Everything traveled well, was thoughtfully prepared, and made for an unforgettable catered meal. If you're considering catering from Marimakan Crabhouse, I can't recommend it highly enough. Get the black pepper sauce! Amazing from start to finish, and Chef V or Rachel is lovely to work with.

In long This place has great word of mouth and I'm glad I finally got to check it out. I tried 2 things, and, so far, the menu seems to be executed very well. The whole menu looks crazy promising, so this is an excellent sign. I came in for a late lunch on a summer Friday during World Cup. A few folks were watching the game--there were a handful of gasps for great shots and saves. But most of the scattered crowd was there for a leisurely lunch (or beer). They have a solid tap lineup with lots of dependable local favorites, and the tender knew quite a few people by name *and* by beer preference as soon as they sat down. Said she had been there over 5 years. Great vibe, lots of happy customers. It probably gets kinda loud in here when it's packed--you can tell from the photos that everything is concrete and wood and whatnot. No acoustic baffling that I could see. Easy to clean, though, and it was definitely just pleasant and sociable the whole time I was there. I got the Blue Burger with a cup of clam chowder. You can tell the soup is scratch, nice little dicing on the potatoes and veg, decent amount of clams. Comes with the oyster crackers that some of us have loved for decades. The burger is hearty--thick patty, thick stack of veg, squishy thickish bun. Easy enough to eat but without a doubt it's the opposite of a smashburger. I know, I know. This is a seafood joint. You can tell from the fake seagulls right by the front door. But it's been ages since I had a burger, and at least I tried the chowder. Everything was easily good enough to come back and see how the water side of the menu is. I was in and out for a fair price, and never doubted that everything would be very good. And that's exactly how it turned out. I'll happily be back.
