This is a good spot. I have eaten here on a few occasions when traveling from out of town. The staff is always very friendly and the food tasty. I would give 5 stars but the price is a little higher than I feel is appropriate for the food. Would definitely recommend. read more

Well it's been a while since the last time we ate here and it wasn't good, so we heard they had a new chef and decided to try again, What a disaster! Server was awesome, she did everything right, the food well, let's just say that if it had been COOKED, I could let you know, how you burn duck on the out side and just as raw as anything on the inside is NOT Good for anyone that's called chef! A well appointed restaurant with a good historical story. I do not recommend coming on a hot day, because when the air conditioner kicks on it feels like a wind tunnel. The servers are college girls who try hard but are poorly trained. The hostess is over 70 and rarely at her station, and I saw her eating out of a bowl. Very inappropriate for an upscale restaurant. I had the prime rib special on a weeknight, which is their Saturday night special. It was cooked right, but a very poor cut of meat, akin to a truck stop restaurant or low end Las Vegas buffet. When I questioned the waitress, she said it was a different cut of meat than their Saturday night prime rib, and that was why. A little late with the explanation. I was even more put off when the chef came out of the kitchen to visit with the table next to me. He had no passion, and sounded ambivalent about his offerings for the evening. If you want upscale in Sedalia, go to McGrath's. There is no comparison. read more

The Ivory Grille is located inside of Hotel Bothwell, and seems to be the only fine dining restaurant located in Sedalia, MO. If you're looking for gourmet food or a nice place to sit down and have a drink, The Ivory Grille is the place to go with its authentic ragtime music and decor (lots of Sedalia's own Scott Joplin posters) and an open bar downstairs. You can't go wrong; although it's a little on the expensive side, you'll appreciate the money that you spend because it's well worth it. Dinner includes three complimentary accompaniments, including salad or soup (I recommend the house salad. It is loaded with goodies like strawberries, oranges and lots of other ingredients too numerous to remember), the chef's own cheddar and chive biscuits (try them with the maple butter, I could eat it with a spoon), and a signature complimentary dessert (a new york style cheesecake with a chocolate treble clef on top that is to die for). To our delight, Chef Tim Shroeder came out to meet my husband and I. I suppose he did so because I kept raving about the meal from start to finish. He was such a pleasure to meet. I've eaten here twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. The service is very good, the decor nice...retro, in the "restored" sense. Food is pretty darn good. Not great, but very decent. The salads were big and beautifully presented. The prices were great. Server was kind and efficient.

Quiet place, however I went during lunch. The staff was friendly and the meal was delicious. Only downside is that the dinner menu was the same as the lunch therefore, the portion/price was somewhat larger. read more

The night did not start out well. 30 minutes to get simple appetizer. Another 10 minutes for dinner with no silverware. One person in our party no meal because waitress did not enter order. We did get manager to the table who explained that a cook called in sick and there was a party of 50 they were trying to accommodate. He was very apologetic and we negotiated the bill down to a reasonable amount given the situation. It is a pub and you would expect wait staff to ask how to cook hamburger, but she tells us they are told not to ask and all meat gets cooked well done. The burgers were okay but overcooked and dry. There was no seasoning in the meat. This was a first visit. I would be willing to give it one more chance, but just one more. read more

Sorry to give you guys this review - we've had many great experiences with Ivory Grille in the past, so decided to take friends for a nice meal. Definitely NOT up to your usual standards. Long wait to even get water, longer for drinks, even longer for our meal. Weak excuses from waitress about having a party of 25, and only 2 servers - but the restaurant was not busy apart from the group. This is State Fair week, I would have thought you would staff accordingly. Salads came out (finally) but were not what we ordered. Husbands second drink was not what he ordered either. Meal was served - 2 orders were "OK" nothing special, husband ordered your trio, filet was overcooked, asked for Yukon, got mashed, asked for asparagus, got Brussel sprouts that were so hard they were inedible. Stuffed shrimp was a tiny shrimp with a large dollop of stuffing next to it. So disappointing. My friend got your pork chop - dry like the Sahara desert. Her sides were also substituted as my husbands, without asking (we were told "we're out of asparagus." Were you also out of potatoes?) Had to ask 3 times to get a second glass of wine. We expressed our displeasure to the waitress (politely) and she finally offered a free dessert, but by this time we were done (almost 3 hours) and wanted nothing to do with it and just wanted to get out of there. No chef or manager to talk to, no one but the poor waitress. Still took even more time to get our bill - we finally left and my husband stood by the hostess station to pay to give them the hint! No discount (or anything) offered - it will take a lot to give you another chance. read more
