Great Mexican restaurant as far as food and drinks. We've never had a bad experience as far as food goes. All the food is excellent and delicious. Customer service is usually pretty good. Sometimes you get the random person with zero personality who doesn't check in on you and your drinks go bone dry, but that happens everywhere. So this was my first time here. Met with a friend for lunch at the bar area. It was very nice. Multiple tvs, lottery area. And good amount of seating around the bar as well as booths. Fresh chips and salsa were brought out right away that were warm and tasty. I had myself a michelada which was very refreshing. For food I ordered the Camerones Monterey and a side of grilled jalapeños that were seasoned as well. The food was great and the jalapeños were very tasty, and spicy. Omg! Delicious Mexican food! The tamale wasn't dried meat in a drier corn husk. The chips are homemade, the horchata is homemade, everything was delicious! The service was quick and friendly, the place is a bit small but they definitely should expand to a larger location. I can't even complain about the beans and I HATE beans!! Over priced dog food that gives you diarrhea!!! What a dump, you can get burritos for half the price across the street!!! I have ate here a number of times over the years and just remembered, after having lunch there today with an account, I forgot to write a review on it so here we go,,,,,,,,,,, Every time I have been there, including today, you are greeted quickly and seated in the same fashion. Once seated, you get the customary chips and salsa. The chips and salsa here are very good, probably one of my favorites. Today I had the Chili Colorado Burrito with rice and beans and it was spot on. Beef was cooked to perfection and sauce was tasty. Had the iced tea and it had great flavor, not some watered down mess. Service was first class. This Ixtapa is better than the one in Philomath which I have ate at a number of times also. Not bad grub at all for Mexi-American style food. read more

I was camping in Stayton and planned to buy food in town after a 100 mile bike ride to the covered bridges in the area. I arrived VERY VERY HUNGRY at Ixtapa with my backpack. I ordered up enchiladas TO GO. Not only was the food amazing, but the service was literally unbelievable. The TO GO containers they had didn't fit in my backpack so they went to the Dollar Store nearby and BOUGHT SOME that would work. I tried to pay for them for these but they wouldn't let me. I did leave a good tip to show my deep appreciation. Several weeks later I returned with three friends, we bought food to go and ate lunch in the Stayton Park. Once again, a fabulous experience and delicious! MUCHIMAS GRACIAS, everybody at Ixtapa. I will be back. With even more hungry friends! read more

This was a miss on our last visit. Ordered fajitas, the warm tortillas arrived 25 minutes before the rest of the food . Combination plate was a mess- maybe new kitchen staff?? The lady that took our drink and food order was seldom seen. When she brought our check we gave her the $5.00 off dinner coupon. After paying with credit card and giving a 20% customary tip I looked over the total. She didn't use the coupon. Makes me wonder if the coupon is ever actually honored by the restaurant read more

All the edges were burnt and it came with guacamole that had so much cilantro in it that's all you could taste. This place has changed so much. I won't be back. Ixtapa Stayton Oregon. Had dinner there last night, the food was only warm and not hot as they usually serve. The rice on the plate tasted like instant rice which was dry. I was surprised when the food arrived it didn't look really good as when served in the past. I am guessing there might have been a substitute chef working. In the past the portion was more than enough, last nights plate was quite sparse. Unless that experience was just that one time I probably won't go to Ixtapa to eat again. read more

Very underwhelming experience. Thought I'd mix it up a bit and try the Super Nachos with Carne Asada. For $8 of nachos, you'd expect a big mound. Portions were fairly small I thought for the price. Very little flavor in the toppings. Carne Asada was bland and just a small amount. The top layer had lots of cheese, guac, sour cream, unions and tomatoes but everything underneath was bare. Service was poor. Had to ask for a water refill once and got room temperature water the second time. Their other food might be worthy of more than two stars but definitely not the Super Nachos. read more

Much better on the inside than it looks on the outside. We went for lunch with a party of 7 on Sunday and had a great experience. The good: Wait staff very nice. Served hot tortilla chips and your choice of mild or spicy salsa. Everything arrived on VERY hot plates...as any good restaurant does. Drinks of all varieties never ran dry. All food was correctly delivered with no mistakes. Portions were HUGE... and I am not kidding. All customers reported their meals were tasty. Staff checked back often. The lunch menu is a good bargain and is honored on the weekend as well during it's active hours. The needed improvements: Remodel the outside. You would not want to go inside based on the extremely tired and ugly outside. Don't let that fool you. Prices were a little high but the amount of food will give you a 2 meals for the price of 1 based on the size of the take home boxes. Despite all these things, I would absolutely go back. Not very often do I take time to do a review... very disappointed in the service and their appreciation of a regular customer. My visit tonight I ordered some shredded beef taquitos and they came out dripping in grease. I made a comment to bartender "do they always come like this?" and he said yes. I literally ate one and pushed my plate aside. When he gave me my bill he asked if I wanted a box and I said no. He did not even offer to take them off my bill. I did not make a scene and paid my $15 tab and even was dumb enough to leave a 20% tip. $18 for a beer. Will not be going back. read more

Great service and very clean. Lots of parking. The food is really good most of the time. Every once in awhile the carne asada steaks is chewy and tough, the guacamole is not fresh and the salsa is okay that is the only complaint. Wish they had fresh guacamole. I've been here a couple times, each time it's OK. The menu has standard Mexican options but prices a bit higher than comparable restaurants. The staff are hit or miss depending on who you get.
