Still amazing & delicious, authentic Japanese meal in Kirkland! Every detail is meticulously crafted and bursting with traditional Japanese flavors. The sushi is super fresh with thick cuts of fish. Service is very attentive, even during the lunch rush hour. Two thumbs up! #Meal #Kirkland #Details #Flavors #Sushi #Fish #Service #Lunch

I really wanted to like this place since it's fairly close to where we live, but I just cannot recommend it. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes, but nothing we ate was that good. The potstickers tasted funny, the sushi was very average, and the teriyaki wasn't anything special. We saw others eating noodle dishes and nigiri that seemed good, so maybe try that when you're in. Unfortunately I don't think we will return.

Another place we've been going to for years. Back there there weren't as many sushi places as there are now. This place is still a high quality a go to place for many. Even though kids are allowed to join, I wouldn't recommend it unless your child is well behaved and really likes sushi. We've brought our kids here before and felt like were being punished and put in a corner. I get it they want to maintain a certain level of ambiance. Space is tight so again, if you kids aren't well behaved this probably isn't the best place for you. Back to the restaurant... service is top notch here. The food is on the pricier side, like most sushi restaurants, but it is consistently fresh and high quality. This day I ordered the Amber Jack and it was delicious. I can probably do without the Tempura as it's very stereotypical and nothing to rave about. If you enjoy a nice desert I highly recommend their house made coffee jello. Perfectly balance coffee flavor with a nice top cream sweetener. Again this is a great local sushi restaurant that never fails to deliver quality food and service with every visit.

Today was my first time here. I tried the Beef Teriyaki and this was one of the most amazing Beef Teriyaki ever. It was a New Steak with their home made Teriyaki sauce. The rice and soup were great too. The hot tea was delicious. The service was amazing. The place is too small but very busy. I enjoyed setting on the counter where they leave a space between each customer so we can enjoy the food and have room to eat. This is going to be my favorite Beef Teriyaki restaurant.

Back at Izumi after ages -- and it's still got that rugged charm. They've removed the sushi bar seating, but kindly placed us right in front of the counter anyway. Izumi's sushi isn't about polish -- it's bold, thick cuts of fish over hefty rice, somewhere between Edomae and home-style. Definitely not for everyone, especially if you prefer more delicate, refined bites. Personally, I lean toward the latter, but Izumi still hits the spot. Four pieces and I was full -- that's how generous each serving is. The uni melted like butter, and the seasonal wild matsutake mushroom soup was a rare treat. They don't take reservations, and the prices are great, so it's always packed. Service is straightforward -- not overly friendly, but never cold. The vibe feels like a neighborhood Japanese spot, with a no-frills attitude that somehow makes the experience more memorable. Izumi isn't trying to impress -- and that's exactly why it does.

Wow, this place really is as good as all the reviews say. Funny thing is I have lived here for about 8 years and never made it here even though I knew about it. So glad I came. Will certainly come again, and bring the whole family. Order the chrashi and it was wonderful. Very large, fresh pieces of sashimi, a few nice stewed vegetables, we're at rice with tobiko and Miso soup. I was so stuffed when finished. Looking around the tables at other orders, everything looks very good. Can't wait to come back with the whole family.

Been eating sushi here for nearly 30 years and it is simple the best in the area. Fish is fresh and served in the classic style -don't come looking for crazy rolls. If that's your vibe, you won't find it here. Sushi, sashimi, and hot Japanese main dishes are all superb. This is where I fell in with sushi!!!

As a PNWer who first ate at this restaurant at half the age of my daughter now sitting across the table from me, what a treat. Immaculately clean, well staffed and serving beautifully prepared Japanese cuisine. Even with a full restaurant, food is well paced, and we were well-attended at the table. Split omakase, tempura, soft shell roll, and salmon teriyaki. Fantastic!

We went on a friday afternoon around 12:30 and got a table immediately for 2. Staff were very courteous and had smiling faces. We decided to go since I was told this is one of the authentic places for Sushi in the area. Offered steaming hot tea after we were seated. We ordered the potstickers (slightly burnt more than usual) which was good. Our orders were Katsu don (with pork) and the cooked shrimp sushi. One of the best Miso served with the bowl. I wanted to go for more Sushi as that plate wasn't sufficient but my wife couldn't finish her bowl of Katsu don. Did Not try any desserts. The tea kept coming even after we were done. I didn't like the sushi much, maybe that's how the authentic ones taste??!!! I might come again to try something else for sure. Nice ambience!

This was my go to Japanese restaurant. After Covid and living standards increased even higher, they did what they have to stay afloat and for profit. Certain things were skipped on the plate/bowl with higher pricing. Food is still very good. Green tea is now $3/ person. At least, the server is up front about the charges. Service is still the same old; courteous but not begging for your satisfaction type. She serves the way that she has been doing for decades. Don't expect special tailoring or alternation service. Or, you will get the look. Look out for their FB updates for irregular closure or special holidays. Over looking at the "special" service style and price, I think Szeto family and staff still make very good traditional Japanese food. I missed the good old sushi counter dinners several times a week and chatting with regular diners at the counter. Things changed for sure. I appreciated my time there when I'm there. Nowadays, I come for a casual solo lunch or order to go every once in a while.

Izumi was a great hole in the wall sushi experience. It was a great plus to hear Japanese being spoken here. The sushi cuts were very fresh. The nigiri is very large. We definitely ended up ordering too much. The service was good but on the slower side. They brought food out pretty quickly but getting refills on beverages took some effort.

    12 piece omakase
    Ellen C.

I came here just for the 12 piece omakase and I was delighted at how delicious and thick the cuts were. Next time I'm definitely getting the 15 piece! Small joint. I was disappointed I couldn't sit at the sushi bar as they got rid of those. Tons of people working and all of them were attentive. Water was filled before it was empty. My check was brought to me immediately. By the time I left there were people waiting for a seat. I'd definitely recommend coming here right at 5pm if you don't want to wait, though the wait doesn't seem bad at all.

I'm placing this as one of my new favorite sushi spots on the Eastside! Four of us came for an early dinner around 4:30P on a Saturday and got seating right away in a booth. The restaurant is on the smaller end with just a few tables on each side and a few seats at the sushi bar. In addition to an appetizer, two of us shared three specialty sushi rolls and the other two in our group ordered the chicken katsu meal set. Our sushi arrived beautifully all on one plate. Each specialty roll included 10 pieces and they all contained a generous amount of filling with a relatively thin rice layer, making the average price of $18 - $19 per roll worth the value. + TAKOYAKI ($7.50): These deep-fried dumplings had a soft creamy interior and housed a small piece of tender octopus. Four pieces came in an order, topped with mayo, unagi sauce and bonito flakes. I loved the crispy exterior and they were served steaming hot. I am not sure they were made in-house or frozen, but they were delicious. + KOUSHI ROLL ($17.99): A crab, avocado and cucumber roll topped with cajun seared salmon, spicy mayo, unagi sauce, green onion and fish roe. Between the crab filling and spicy mayo, this is a pretty creamy roll. The salmon on top had a very light sear, so while the smoky flavor was noticeable, I considered it closer to raw. The unagi sauce added some sweetness that offset the mild spice. + NAGOYA ROLL ($18.99): Tuna avocado roll topped with salmon, ponzu sauce, sweet sesame sauce, green onion and fish roe. The freshness of the fish especially shined here between the large cubes of tuna inside and the meaty slice of raw salmon on top. The sauce simply enhanced the roll without taking over the flavor, so it didn't distract from the purity of the ingredients. + SETO ROLL ($18.99): Spicy tuna and cucumber inside topped with tuna, ponzu sauce and green onion. This roll is HOT, like at least 3/5 stars on the spice scale! As spicy as it was, I really enjoyed it, especially since half the roll was topped with medium fatty tuna which was such a nice treat. Lean tuna draped over the other half. Chopped green onion on top added pops of freshness. The chicken katsu meal ($16.99) came with salad, rice and miso soup. I tried one piece of the chicken which was tender and had an excellent light crunch! Service was great as the two employees managing the dining room checked back a couple times and were actively watching in case any of the tables needed anything. I know I'll be back again for more sushi!

It came out pretty quickly and it was all good. The portions are great. Not too much and not too little. The Ramen were really good and they hit the spot. They had nice pieces of pork and we added the soft boiled egg which was cooked perfectly. The Takoyaki had a nice sized piece of octopus in them. A lot of the takoyaki I have had at other places use tiny pieces of octopus which is disappointing. Here it was a nice piece of octopus which made it really good. The noodles held up really well. Good thickness and had that good chewy bounciness to it too. I would say the broth met expectations - rich flavors that may be a bit too salty for the unaware. I didn't see any offer to top off the dipping broth with daishi broth (soup-wari). Not a deal breaker though! The chicken kaarages were a little disappointing because they didn't lock down the texture. It was crispy for some part and kinda soft for others. I love Japanese curry, and was so stoked to see such a unique curry on the menu (made with dark chocolate so it gives a richer flavor). $5 more to add shredded cabbage and miso soup; I definitely think this is worth it because there's no other fresh greens in the entree. It helps cut the heavy, fried-ness of the katsu and provides a different texture. My shrimp (ebi) katsu curry was so flaky and crispy, which is so hard to find at katsu shops where the breading is cakey and falls off the protein. However, the shrimp to flakes ratio was off and I could hardly taste the shrimp or know when I bit shrimp versus the flakes because there was so much breading. This wasn't a problem for the pork katsu, though! The portion size is massive; half the plate is rice, and the other half is the curry. For $29 for the shrimp katsu ($34 total pre tax and tip after adding the shredded cabbage and miso soup combo), I think it's worth the price if you're starving or sharing. I think it'd be cool if they did a protein combo where you pick two proteins, especially because they have a variety of pork options. This would help people justify their cost while tasting more of the menu with less overwhelming commitment. Servers are kind and attentive, and they don't rush you when you order or need more time. The interior is beautiful and well-lit with bar seating, tables and booths, and high top tables too. I'd come again if I wanted to share a katsu entree with a friend!

He's a big reason that we had such a wonderful first experience at Noii and I sincerely hope Management takes notice and promotes this guy to become a manager because he clearly is so passionate about his job, cares about the customers he serves and so knowledgeable about the food! That's something very refreshing to see in the service industry. The lunch bento set was wonderful - the sushi upgrade was definitely worth it too IMO, because I'm a huge aburi toro fan. Everything from the beef croquette to the salad with crispy fish skin and ikura was delicious. The food presentation/plating was 10/10 and it was a feast for the eyes too. Even the grilled chicken rice bowl with the onsen egg was so yummy. We also loved the yuzu mixed drinks as well. The birthday dessert with a yuzu jelly topped with meringue and edible flowers added the perfect finishing touch to our meal. The ambience, food and service were all a home run for me. That says a lot because VERY few restaurants are able to achieve the perfect trifecta of all 3. Hopefully they will keep these high standards up!
